  1. I'm in a very odd situation.. My original marriage certificate is in English (which isn't the official language of where I was married.. Urdu in Pakistan). I provided that to the NVC and they said we require a version in the official country of where you were married.

Have you ever heard of anyone bringing marriage-related documents directly to the interview? I've been at the NVC processing for over 120 days now and losing patience fast.

    Any help would benefit!

  2. Salaam everyone - Just wanted to post my experience with this. I don't think it will help but here goes.

I sent in my Marriage Certificate from NADRA that is already in English AND Urdu. I also sent my English Nikkah Nama and got a checklist. They said that my English Nikkah Nama was a translation.

So I called and explained that it is not a translation, the proof is that it has all signatures for bride, groom, witnesses, and most importantly of the Nikkah Registrar. It also has the official stamp of the Registrar. It took 1 month for the supervisor to review. It may have taken longer, but thanks to God, after I called almost everyday, I finally got through to a supervisor and she said she would request my file and review it herself.

Part of the reason I called every day was because I noticed some people get a supervisor review after only 1 week. Alhamdulillah it was reviewed and case was completed.

I recommend, as it was stated above, to send in BOTH the English and Urdu Nikkah Nama AND a cover letter explaining that the English is NOT a translation. God Willing this will save you from getting a checklist and having your case delayed.

Best wishes and prayers for everyone to get a Petition Approval, Case Complete, Visa Approved, and Visa in-Hand, and finally a reunion with our spouse, aameen!

I just had a supervisor review done and she said I still need an Urdu version.. this is so disappointing..

Hi Sofi.. thankyou for that info! That helped a lot!

I'm in a very crappy situation. So I didn't know I got checklisted because of that reason..so I sent my English nikkahnama again on January22nd.. I called again and again..then on February 1st I was told by the rep on the phone that they may have assumed this was a translation. So I got a supervisor review done and the supervisor said send in a letter..so I sent a letter in the mail saying that this English nikkahnama is indeed the original.. I waited for 2 weeks and it seems that they may have misplaced the letter! :(

I also sent an email explaining my situation on February 1st as well..and I'm already so close to them reviewing my English Nikkahnama (60 days on March 20th) that I thought I'd just wait it out (instead of sending the letter now which would make me wait ANOTHER 60 days) and hope my email and the supervisor review had some effect! Any advice?!

What's weird is that USCIS approved my nikkahnama at time of I130..

  4. If it is correct, I'd just send another copy and a printout of that with appropriate parts highlighted. I'd briefly explain it in a short cover letter too.

We had our marriage in a different country, but we also have 2 different marriage certificates - one only in Danish and one in 5 or 6 different languages, including English, and it was not a problem.

I'd bet they probably hadn't seen it before.

To add to my heartache.. I had sent marriage certificates on January 22nd and NVC had received them. I found out on the phone February 1 that this was why I was rejected, so I sent a letter with the information I posted earlier. FedEx said NVC received it February 3rd, but I have received no scan email and the NVC rep on the phone has stated they have received NOTHING.

I'm hesitant in sending the copy of the letter again because I'll have to wait ANOTHER 60 days when I'll be getting a response to just the marriage certificate mail in less than a month (according to 60 day timeline). Reason I'm asking about the USCIS and NVC disparity is to find out if there's a chance just my marriage certificate will get approved.. maybe USCIS realized the original being in English thing?

Also, I also sent an email to NVC inquiry on February 1st with all this information as to why my marriage certificate is correct. I got a 60 day notice for that email as well..so I'm praying that the email has SOME effect..

  5. So..I had the marriage certificate (nikkahnama) from Pakistan. USUALLY, they receive an Urdu nikkahanama and a translated English copy. Pakistan now offers an English one directly so you don't need to get it translated. As stated on the Pakistan Reciprocity Schedule ( http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/PK.html ), “The original Nikah Nama is usually in Urdu and is required for consular processing of immigrant visas. The NADRA marriage certificate is not an acceptable substitute for the Nikah Nama. Attested translations of the Nikah Nama should be provided. In some larger jurisdictions, such as Karachi and Lahore, an original English Nikah Nama may be given upon request.”. I was married in Karachi and had requested an English Nikah Nama as the original rather than the Urdu one to avoid any issues with translation.

I guess they didn't realize that when reviewing at the NVC.. I just wanted to know if they DID realize this and approved at I130 time.

    UGH FRUSTRATING!

  6. I am in a weird situation where I ONLY got my English Nikkahnama made because I thought it would be faster.

As stated on the Pakistan Reciprocity Schedule ( http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/PK.html ), “The original Nikah Nama is usually in Urdu and is required for consular processing of immigrant visas. I was married in Karachi and had requested an English Nikah Nama as the original rather than the Urdu one to avoid any issues with translation.

I got checklisted by the NVC saying that I only sent the translation. UGH

  7. So I received a checklist from the NVC after I sent my AOS asking for the original marriage certificate. I had already sent it with the original package..but to satisfy the NVC I sent it again.

I then emailed them using: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/contact/ask-nvc.htmla month after I sent in my forms saying why this was indeed the original form.

My question is..will this email be considered at all when reviewing my response to the checklist?

  8. Quick question I received an email from nvc this morning saying they have receive my documents and to all 60 day. Will I receive another with a scan? Or the date that they received it is the scan date?

Kemtan, when did you send your documents to the NVC? I'm asking so I can get an idea about how far NVC has gotten in processing their mail.

  9. So NVC has received my response to the checklist they sent me on February 3rd.. it's February 11 and still no email regarding the documents being scanned into the system.

I would like to know how long scanning usually takes.. and whether the 60 day count will begin when my mail enters their door (i.e. Feb 3rd).. or when it is scanned into the system?
