  1. I'm in MA, but I see you're in NH. I love the Lakes Region and Lake Winnipesaukee. NH is a beautiful state.

Back to MA. We're famous for liberals. Boston is rich in history. This is where the battle for independence started. Lots of good stuff to see and do in the city. Lots of good restaurants and shopping malls out here in the suburbs. Good colleges, a diverse population, lots of different cultures. The Super Bowl Champion NE Patriots out here in suburbia. The Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics. The beaches of Cape Cod. A great state to live in, a beautiful part of the country.

Awesome! I agree with a lot of those sentiments, and in some respects, NH and MA are very similar!

I'm in Southern NH, real close to the MA state line. I love where we're at because we get some of the NH benefits (no sales tax and cheap liquor heheh) but it's like a 40 minute drive to go to Boston for the day!

Southern NH and Mass are quite similar culturally, once you go above exit 12 or so on i-93 in NH, I feel that's where NH becomes more of it's own state. Things slow down a lot and people like to take their time a bit more. I like that :)

  2. Hello all! Today marks my 1 year anniversary of arriving here in the USA! To celebrate, I thought we could have a little fun!

So I always love reading people's perceptions of their state, so I thought it would be a fun idea to see what things everyone feels best represent their states! Tell me what your things are and write a brief description why! Feel free to post multiple things!

    I'll start off;

Living here in New Hampshire there are a few things that I feel represent the Granite state (to be honest, probably more New England in general!)

Dunkin' Donuts - The great equalizer. Here in NH and NE in general, you'll find a Dunkin' Donuts literally every 2 miles on a street corner. They are EVERYWHERE. Go inside, and you'll see a great cross section of New Englanders. Doesn't matter if you're a construction worker, banker, CEO of a company, everyone drinks DD here!

Chowdah and seafood in general - Need I say more?

Market Basket - A Massachusetts supermarket that has spread into NH and ME, this family owned business is a great representation of New England. I feel like walking in to a MB store is almost like taking a step back in time, the workers wear shirts and ties, and aprons. Feels like they value a more traditional shopping experience, Market Basket is a Mass and NH stalwart in my opinion!

Autumn Leaves - Yep, nowhere does it better than NH in my opinion; a State of outstanding natural beauty.

Apples - The town where I live here in NH is known for it's apples, and it's a huge family event in the fall to go apple (and pumpkin) picking. There's pretty much an apple orchard here on my doorstep, and I've never had a nicer apple! Cortland apples taste amazing when freshly picked from the tree! :halloween:

Snow - Over this winter (2014-2015) we had a record breaker for the sheer amount of snow. I know states like Minnesota and Buffalo NY get crazy amounts of snow, but we're a much smaller area!

Impatient Drivers!!! - I'm sure this one is actually a lot more widespread than just here in New England, but it seems like everyone is in a rush all the time! Yeah, people will let you out and give way for you, but don't expect them to be gracious about doing it. :P

I guess in the year that I've been here, I've already turned into a proud New Englander (is that good, or bad?? hehe) I'm really excited to see what everyone else will say about their states! - Adam

  3. From someone with a UK driver's license too. You'll have to re-do it. Definitely get used to the rules of the road, such as turning right on a red, and passing in the hard-shoulder when someone is turning left!

Thankfully the practical part is a lot easier than back in the UK, I just went out for a quick drive for 10 minutes with the adjudicator, then parked in a space, no maneuvers or parallel parking on my test here in NH!

Best of luck, I'm sure you'll sail through it, at least you aren't driving in New England... :dancing:

  4. So after filing June 17th 2014, getting an interview waiver notice September 9th 2014, then nothing and contacting my senator's office in March 2015, my case was transferred from MSC to Newark NJ on April 17th 2015 then....

It just went into card production today!!

I'm so happy and relieved!! This website and community is such a blessing. Thanks to everyone for the advice and I hope to see a lot more card production updates! :dancing::dancing::dancing:

  5. Hi everyone!

So I have a pending i-485, received an interview waiver notice back in September 28th. Shortly after that, my wife and I moved out of her father's house into our own apartment, in the same town. I filled in the online address change form and got confirmation and everything from USCIS, but I never thought, does my wife also need to do the same?

We moved in October and I filed as soon as we did, but I never realised that she would have had to, as I thought her part as far as paperwork was largely over.

In short; did we need to submit a change of address for my USC wife as well as me for my pending I-485, and if we did, how bad is it that we didn't!?

Many thanks, hopefully the responses don't freak me out. We're planning to visit home in July/August and I really don't want any delays to the AOS!

EDIT: My wife was not my primary sponsor, her Mother and Step-father were co-sponsors and have not changed address.

  6. Thanks, a year... Jeepers.. We were hoping to make a trip back to Northern Ireland (home for me) in July of this year, obviously it's tough going ahead booking time off work and flights when I don't even know if I'll be able to leave the country yet!

I also forgot to say; we did move house too. I filed the appropriate forms in the appropriate time and got a receipt of address change. We stayed in the same town, just moved up the road a little, so I didn't notify the MSC either. Hopefully this is all ok!

  7. Hi everyone!

This is my first official post in the forum; I've been a long time lurker! I want to say it's a great community here and it's saved my wife and I's sanity a few time!

    So basically a really quick synopsis of my current situation;

    • K1 process was smooth sailing, entered the US on 28th May of 2014,
    • Married in June, sent in AOS also in June, obviously sent in papers for EAD too.
    • Got SSN in June
    • Fingerprints were taken in July some time, so far so good!
    • Received my EAD at the end of August, that receipt number currently still says card was delivered (Success!)
    • Got potential interview waiver notice in early October for AOS
    • Received email update 12/12/14 saying my i-485 was accepted and being reviewed (??? Surely I thought this would have been much earlier)
    • BUT on the USCIS website when I enter my MSC number, my status says "On June 24th we received your fingerprint fee" or something similar. Before the USCIS website changed to the new design, my status was actually further along, it now seems like it's went back in time!

I tried submitting an online request, but it says it's within the normal time frame.

Can anyone shed any light on what's going on, if this is normal and whether I should call? I see by current posts that a lot of June filers have actually received their GC while many are anticipating April time?

Many thanks and good luck to everyone on their journey :)
