Her spousal visa has nothing to do with you. You can apply at any time. The B-2 is about you, not her.

My sister got her spouse visa approved from Islamabad Embassy. Yayyyy :-) Thankful heaps to God.

She will be leaving on 16 April, 2015.

Now, I'm planning to apply B2 visa as discussed earlier.

Should I apply while she's here or should I wait for her to go to US?

I will apply and will come back with a good news

1) Bank statement and letter from bank showing you have substantial amount of money for long period. Depositing huge amount one day before and getting bank statement is an old trick and US embassy doesn't like it if people try to fool them like this.

2) Sponsor letter from your BIL saying that he will sponsor your stay in USA and will take care of your lodging, food and medical expenses and also an invitation letter and marriage reception invitation. Also it will help if he sends you his financial documents (W2, tax returns, bank statements...at least for last three years). Also his passport copy and your sister's passport copy to establish relationship.

3)Any property documents in YOUR name (house, car, business documents etc). NOTE: NOT your father's documents or your relatives' documents. They are not valid. Also you need your tax documents.

4) Any family ties to Pakistan that can convince them that you will return and not overstay illegally. It may help if you are married and have kids. At least if you are engaged. Parents and relatives don't count. This one is tricky. Previous records of Indians and Pakistanis who went on tourist visas and invariably overstayed the visa makes it difficult for all of us. This is the most important thing they look for and the most difficult one to establish especially for a 23 year old single guy.

5) You have to apply online and print the form and schedule an interview appointment. You need to bring all the afore mentioned documents and the printed form along with you to the interview.

Hey Buddy....I am not trying to offend you in any way shape or form or trying to discourage you from applying. If I have come across like that I APOLOGIZE. I am just trying to present you the facts (or atleast what experience I had in the past). I have an American friend who works in US embassy in India and I heard all his views on these.

First of all, you have to understand what family means to Americans. After age of 18, family in America means wife and kids unlike where we come from. You are a single guy with no wife or kids. That means you have no family ties with Pakistan. Your parents and relatives don't count in US embassy official's eyes.

We have property is a typical south Asian way of saying. You need to have property in your name in the documents. You need that for your visa interview to prove ties. Your father's name in the documents is not acceptable. Again in America, your father's property is NOT considered yours. Also you need bank statements and letters from banks where you have accounts showing substantial amount of money for a long period of time to make sure you have enough money to cover your trip. A sponsor letter from your brother in law helps but not sufficient.

A verifiable job means a job in a well recognized preferably big national or multinational company. You need letter from your work to prove that you work there and you make substantial salary. Unless your business is a well known company, they wont accept that either. My friend told me that he sees people bring all kinds of documents claiming they own business. Not that I am doubting you, but many people used this for proving work ties and US embassy doesn't accept this anymore.

Also you have a clean passport means you don't have very many visas stamped on your passport showing you travelled to countries like UK, or anywhere else in Europe or Canada. This is a big negative and US embassy looks at this.

Also your reason for travel is marriage reception not marriage itself which is over already. Another red flag. In America, they don't have marriage and reception in two different places in two different dates like what we do in India or Pakistan. US embassy officials will deem this reason bogus.

Where are you getting 1% from? You are just making a guess. You have no data from the US government. This is coming out of your head.

I am a permenant resident in USA (originally from India) and have been living here for over 15 years. I have seen several visitor visa cases. Here is what it boils down to. 1) Nationality (it is easy for certain country citizens than others...being from Pakistan does not help in your case). 2) Age and Marital status (you are 23 years old, single guy visiting your relative...chances for you to stay in USA illegally is very high). 3) Ties to your native place (you are single, and no verifiable job...have a small printing business doesnt help...so is being the tax payer) Being a tax payer may be a big deal in Pakistan or India, it doesnt matter for US embassy guys.

So in essance, it all comes down to how the US embassy official who interviews you feels like on the day of your interview which is another way of saying you need huge luck. In all you have less than 1% chance. It costs 150 dollars to apply for tourist visa which is 15000 Pakistani rupees. if you are willing to spend that much money (and one full day of your time) for a 1% chance, by all means go ahead. I think you may have chance. But like they keep telling you no one knows for sure. You can do this stuff yourself. Just apply and then reply back when you get approved or denied. Then you can pay it forward for someone else in the same situation. Good Luck to you
