  1. No. I am most certainly NOT kidding.

In Chicago, where I live, according to the city clerk's website:

    "Requesting a STANDARD marriage certificate

    Order one of five ways:

Go to a local Currency Exchange

Call (847) 759-8905 for Currency Exchange hours and locations in Chicago and suburban Cook County, or visit www.mycurrencyexchange.com.

There is a $5 surcharge for records obtained at Currency Exchanges."

So I wanted to see if there is a difference where I purchase it, via going downtown to the city clerk's office or a local currency exchange.

That certainly is surprising! Anyway, then according to what you posted it does NOT really matter where you purchase it from...

  2. Hi,

My I-130, I-485 and other applications are expected to be delivered to USCIS on 23rd February. But my bank account on which the checks are written will be deposited with the required amount of money only on 25th February. Therefore, I am quite tensed now as USCIS will not be able to cash the checks if they try on 23rd or 24th February. Does anyone have any idea how long does USCIS take after receiving the applications to cash the checks?

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Currently I am on F-1 status and got married to a US citizen 9 months back. Now I want to apply for green card. My PhD will be completed by 2016. When filling out form i-765 to apply for EAD, in question 16, "Who may file form I-765", what code should I use? Will appreciate any advice!

One more question: I got married outside USA. Will that have any effect on my application for green card?

    Thanks in advance!
