  1. And since it is my tax return for 2014 would i follow the 2014 poverty guidelines for the k-1 Visa ? OR would they require the 2015 poverty guideline since i filed it in feb or 2015?

because I obviously do not have my tax return for 2015 and i only JUST BARELY made it past the 125% poverty guideline for 2014 tax return.

    thank you

this case is for thailand/bangkok embassy incase that helps clarify the questions.

  2. Lawyer is wrong... what is new there. Gross Income must meet or exceed the 125% poverty guidelines of I-864P (which is just shy of $20,000 for two) for the interview

I read that gross income is only for those who are employed by an employer, where as with self-employed people it requires Net profit income(the ammount you actually pay tax on after deductions) needed to be $20,000? Does anyone know if this is accurate.

  3. I was told rather unsurely by a lawyer that when your fiance goes to the interview, that the affidavit of support has to show equal or greater income to 100% of the poverty guidelines. BUT that when they file for an adjustment status after they come to the US, that they will have to show 125% income of the poverty guidelines.

    Is this the case?

Also when they wish to see the tax returns on the affidavit of support, do they mean that your net profit of income has to be $19,000 to equal the 125%. or that you only had to earn a gross of $19,000 but you maybe pay tax on $13,000.

the reason i ask is because i am self employed.

    thank you

  4. I am in the beginning stages of my K-1 visa with my fiancee.

I am 24 and my fiancee is 17. My case worker from easyfianceevisa told me I need a parental consent letter from her parents to allow her to marry me, and to have it Notarized.

Here is where it becomes tricky and anyone who has been through this particular situation or knows what I need please feel free to be verbose and tell me everything you know.

What I have found out so far is that Thailand does not have public notaries like we in the united states. Thailand is one of the few countries which does not have the ability to go into your local city office and get a document notarized. What they do have are Thai lawyers who offer notarizing services, BUT what I have not yet been able to confirm is IF the US government Accepts Thai lawyers notary validity???

So I need to find out if I need a Notary from the US embassy in Chiang Mai, or a Notary from a Thai Lawyer, Or a notary from the thai government ministry of foreign affairs? Or a combination of ALL 3??

In addition to the notarization confusion I am having, I am also unsure of what format this "letter" of consent needs to be in. Is there a standard form? Can it be composed by her mother saying something basic such as

"I *insert mothers name* give full consent to my daughter *insert daughters name* to allow her to marry *insert my name*"

And finally, my final confusion is whether I need to get the original Thai letter notarized, then translate it?? or get BOTH the thai letter and the translation notarized? or get the thai letter composed, then only notarize the english translation?

Sorry if my post is scatter shot, and I know my situation is more rare because my fiancee is only 17 at the moment.

thank you in advance for any info or help :)
