  1. My wife is a Singapore national and we are preparing to file our I-751 for removal of conditions (her conditional green card expires late August 2017). Her Singapore passport is expiring soon however and so we need to renew it. Will renewing the passport (and having her married name added to it) which would change her passport number impact the I-751 application in any way? Would getting a renewed passport affect her ability to use her green card in any way (i.e. Is the gc tied to her passport number?)

    thank you for the help!

  2. Hi everyone - my wife and I received our conditional green card in August 2015 - so she is eligible for removing conditions in May. I am starting to get the documents ready but we are in a somewhat interesting situation.

We are currently based in California but are moving to New York to attend graduate school (we were both admitted with scholarships). As such, we are planning to quit our jobs and move to the east coast this summer. In the interim, I was planning to have any documents related to the removal of conditions sent to my parents' address (our CA lease ends in May and our NY lease would not start till August). However, a lot of the documents we plan to use for proof (lease, credit card statements, etc) would have our California address listed. So, a few questions:

Would this cause any sort of issue if I request a change of mailing address after submitting the documents with our original CA address listed?

Does anyone have experience with dealing with the removal of conditions while moving and/or quitting jobs to attend school?

Also, would there be restrictions around traveling out of the country if we submit the I-751 in May for international travel in June/July (green card does not expire until August 2017 and it seems there would be a 1-year renewal received with the NOA1?)

Thank you all so much for your help - this forum is an invaluable resource especially during these times of heightened worries around immigration issues. Our K-1 and adjustment of status process was quite smooth so hoping to have this dealt with once and for all.

  3. Big day in the process for us! We had our interview today and right before leaving for it, I checked the online status and it showed that our EAD / AP had been approved and the card was under production!

On to the interview - I will do a better review of this for the local office, but I felt it was a painless process! Smiles all around, and a few basic questions about how we met, our wedding, families, and friends. We also were asked some questions about the types of things together. She requested for our lease for our apartment (with both our names), and also some other evidence (we provided joint credit card bills, medical, rental and auto insurance). She also kept a few of the pictures we had when we insisted we did not need them back. At the end, we were told to expect our conditional green card to arrive in 4-6 weeks though she noted that it could be quicker because things had been moving quite fast recently!! Music to our ears!!

We have been really fortunate in this process and for all others in the process waiting for their interview, I would say to not worry too much and have the required documents listed on the interview sheet. Thereafter, legitimate couples should have no issues! Stay calm, relaxed, and answer every question simply and honestly. Good luck to everyone!!

  4. Did your online status change on that they are ready to schedule your interview or you just figured that out from regular mail notice?

I found out because of the letter in the mail - since we were traveling I had not checked the online status all week (was quite refreshing!) like I normally obsessively do but I see now that the status has been updated online as well

  5. We were vacationing on the east coast for a week not expecting any updates since my fiancee completed the biometrics in early July...but had a nice surprise waiting in my mailbox when we returned as we received the letter with our scheduled interview for the I-485! Still waiting on EAD/AP but now we can start to prep for the interview - there is a long list of documents they want, though a lot of them are already prepared given the K1 and AOS applications we submitted.

I was really shocked at getting the interview notice - I had resigned myself to likely receiving a waiver and having a long process. It does seem somewhat random as we have not had RFEs and are coming from a quick turnaround of a K-1 visa. I have heard the interview can be tougher though - anyone have any good guides for what to expect?

@codycody our notice for interview to be scheduled was dated 7/23 and we have received it within the week (not sure exact date since we were out of town) - you should check if your letter got lost in the mail or something. Our interview date is Aug 26 and if your notice of interview was dated 7/9 (14 days earlier than mine), your interview date may be coming up soon...though I am in LA and there may be different wait times than in Houston where you are.

Hope for the best for everyone :)

  6. Wow no dates till May? Sorry to hear, whitetiger :( I have heard that sometimes, if they have cancellations, they call you to see if you are available earlier.

So just to fill everyone in, we had a dramatic end to our visa issuance process (but with a happy ending!). My fiancee had her interview last week, which went well, but the embassy had not yet received her medical. After waiting a week with the visa status unchanged at 'Ready', she called the embassy because she was supposed to travel on Friday, Apr 3 (she had mentioned this to the officer after her interview when inquiring about next steps, and the embassy had actually made a note in her file and knew about it - nice service!). Following the call, she visited the embassy in-person and spoke directly to the officers to explain her situation - the embassy offered to give her the passport back (albeit WITHOUT the visa being issued in it) which she could then give back to the embassy when she returned from travel. We did not want to take this risk, so since she had 2 more days till her travel we decided to leave the passport with the embassy and hope for the best, otherwise she was planning on canceling her trip. Through some miracle, by the end of Wednesday (singapore time), the status had moved to administrative processing! And then, when I checked last night before going to bed (Thursday morning Singapore time), it had again moved to "Issued"! We were shocked and thrilled so my fiancee then called the embassy (to see if they had moved the passport package to Aramex) and then Aramex to see if she could pick up the package ASAP. The passport and package travel first to the Aramex facility in Changi before reaching the other pickup point so they said my fiancee could come there at 6pm to try and pick it up. My fiancee went and the Aramex worked manually searched through all the packages received, and miraculously found my fiancee's passport and package!!! :dancing: Stressful experience (partly our own fault) but really happy it's worked out. So now, she has her passport in hand and we are DONE with the K-1!

  7. Hi all, thanks in advance for the help. We are in the final stages of the K1 visa process and are looking ahead to prepare for my fiancee's arrival and our subsequent court marriage in CA (yay!). We were wondering if it would be better to do her name change at the time of marriage or wait till after the AOS process is completed and then get the name change collectively for all docs then? We want to get our AOS application out as soon as possible after marriage so that she can get work authorization as soon as possible and start working. For reference, my fiancee has a SS card from 2 years ago when she was college student in the US as well as a US drivers license, both of which obviously have her maiden name. Would we need to get these cards changed prior to being able to apply for AOS if we did the name change at time of marriage?

  8. Does anyone have experience with how quickly the Singapore embassy gets the passport + approved package ready for Aramex pick up? Our interview went well and was about a week ago but our status on the CEAC website still says 'Ready' though the date last updated shows today's date. Liznaj7 - I see you had 1 week between the interview and having the passport in hand. Did you do the pick up or delivery and did you see the approval on the CEAC website before? What are the different CEAC updates (Ready --> AP --> approved)?

We have been really lucky so far with our processing time so I am not trying to come off as impatient but just curious because my fiancee was supposed to travel this next weekend in Asia and would need her passport for it! She called the embassy who told her that if she did not hear from Aramex by Wednesday, she could come in and pick up her passport but that it would need to be re-submitted at a later time....we would much rather have the processed visa + passport in hand rather than risk making the process any longer than it needs to be. I guess it was a bit of a nice problem to have where my fiancee had booked this travel not anticipating the interview so quickly.

  9. Hello guys!

    I think I screwed up.

I forgot to write all the documents in packet 3 form which pertain to me. I just sent the checklist (did NOT tick anything) and form as it is after signing. I just completed the form and did not write Police Certificate, Birth Certificate, Passport etc.

I think you are fine if I understand what you did properly - that you just sent back the checklist without writing anything along with the signed form. My fiancee didn't tick anything either!

Also, my fiancee had her interview and it went pretty smoothly!! Trying to bug her to write a review now but from what she described to me, the questions were pretty simple and the 2nd interviewer informed her that her case was straightforward. The only thing was that they had not received her medical yet even though she had done it some 10 days prior. She called the medical office after to check on it, and they had said that they sent it so maybe it's in delivery. YAY!!!!

  10. Fiancee has her interview tomorrow morning in Singapore....nervous and excited! We are cutting it very close though - the police clearance is supposed to be picked up tomorrow as well before the interview! I am hoping all goes okay...

  11. Just had my interview this morning :) It went well, short and sweet. CO said he doesn't see any problems with our case and I should get my passport back in a week! The only thing that wasn't in order was my COC, I had placed it in the sealed envelope given to me by the COC office... apparently I'm not supposed to do that as the embassy has to send all sealed documents to another department to open and check. CO said this will add a couple of working days to the waiting time, but everything should be fine :) Relieved to be done with the interview.

Congratulations! Must feel good to be so close to the finish line :) So they wanted the COC letter unsealed? Just received our packet 3 today

  12. Hi! Good luck, it should be reaching the embassy shortly :)

I called the clinic first thing after I received packet 3 and asked for the next available appointment. My guess is that an appointment can be made very quickly. I would advise waiting for packet 3 as you'll need to show the clinic your letter stating the need for a medical.

As for turnaround, I'm quite anxious by nature... so prior to receiving packet 3, I referred to kittythekat's previous post (above) showing what packet 3 contains to make sure my fiance and I had everything we needed. My fiance got to work filling up the I-134 right after we got our NOA2, you can print it out from the uscis website here - http://www.uscis.gov/i-134

, so there's no need to wait for the copy attached with packet 3. Honestly, this wasn't exactly necessary as you'll only need the completed I-134 at the interview, but like I said, I'm just anxious by nature.

The only things that needed to be done urgently after we received packet 3 was filling DS-160, scheduling the medical, applying for police COC and paying the visa fee. All of which do not take a long time. I sent packet 3 back immediately after that and got my fiance to mail me our NOA2 and I-134. My interview is on March 4, so I still have time to collect the evidence needed for our relationship. We frontloaded our I-129F very heavily with evidence, so it's more a matter of updating what we've already presented.

    Hope that's helped!

Thanks for the detail! Very helpful :)

  13. Thanks for your replies! I spoke to the IV unit and they confirmed that an interview date has been set and to contact them again if I don't get packet 4 soon.

Hey liznaj7 - my package is currently at the NVC and is waiting to be shipped to Singapore. I notice on your timeline in your sig that you had your medical very soon after you received the Packet 3. Did you schedule the appt prior to receiving the actual packet or is it relatively quick to get an appointment? Also did you do anything else while waiting for the package to be sent from NVC to Singapore to make a quicker turnaround time to submit Packet 3? Thanks and good luck for the interview! I think I am about a month behind you in the process so will be eager to hear about your experience :)
