I've heard that yes the ban is triggered if you leave the USA. Usually if denied they give you 30 days to leave voluntarily before they place you in removal proceedings.

It doesn't pause anything, you are out of status the day your I-90 was gone. it just gives you an authorized period of stay so you can wait for decision.

Well what happens if the application is denied for any reason after 3-4 months of wait time?

Is it gonna be a 3 years bar if i leave then, because it will be more than 180 days by then

altogether if they count the period of time when the application is pending into their hands aswell.

I am preparing for my AOS from nonimmigrant visa, while reading instructions and everything the terms like Stay authorised period and Unlawful Presence making me confused. For example, my nonimmigrant visit visa expired 4 months ago, and I am about to submit aos application through my Us citizen spouse, once the application is submitted and pending am I gonna still accrue unlawful presence, or I-485 application will pause that even if its filed when i am out of status?
