WTG Sammy I'm so very happy for you both, we seem to have ridden this rollercoaster together a lot of the way and now its all over bar the shouting for us both. I think you two make a lovely couple and wish you the very best for the future, and Did you get the stamp in your passport because I recently answered a posting with someone asking what the stamp is good for and its as good as the Green Card if you have it so get out there and start bringing home the bacon buddy... once again Congratulations and Best Wishes to you both.. :D:D:dance::dance::thumbs:

  2. Ours was 5 weeks

    Hi Tommy SD,

Just to recap here, you said you have the I-551 STAMP in your passport, correct..??..we;; from what was explained to me by my lawyer, I too got the stamp which in itself is equal to the Green Card because its an assurance from USCIS that they have in fact approved you. This Green Card that is spoken about is simply another item of proof of your APPROVAL and is not the mythical object of totality in respect of your status.

The fact that they stamped your passport giving you LPR Status is equal to any other form of confirmation of status including the Green Card itself.

My lawyer was precise in his explaination of what the stamp meant advising me that I was free to travel, get employment or anything else that my new status afforded me as in the STAMP IN THE PASSPORT.

If you research the definition of APPROVAL it tells you about the I-551 Stamp and the Green Card and what they mean and that if the marriage is less than 2 years old at approval then it is a conditional Status, being that it remains that way until 2 years pass and you have the conditions lifted, then if all is in order then you get the 10 year Green Card but it also tells you that the card is simply a means of proving your status and even if you failed to renew the 10 year card when it expires it does not change your status in the records of the USCIS it only makes it harder to prove that status should you be asked to do so.

I am passing on this information to you and hope it helps you to understand better what you already have in the STAMP IN PASSPORT and that you have at least 1 year and 9 months from date of Approval to get the card which I'm sure is in process right now.

From my understanding of the facts the above is true and if anyone can demonstrate otherwise I would be more than happy to bow to their more extensive knowledge.

    Good Luck ... Gladdy :D:D

  3. congrats to you

so its white huh.. always wondered why they call it a greencard if its not lol

    does anyone know...

hopefully mine will arrive soon too i was approved the day after yours...

    good luck

    kath

The reason it was called and still is called a Green Card is because it used to be green but it still has a section on it where it says Permanent Resident and that is in Green, hope this clears up your question.:lol::yes:;)

  4. Well my friends, its finally here, I got my GREEN CARD in the post today just 11 days after approval, and yes I have mixed emotions as it has been a long and nerve raking experience for us both.

All you good folks out there still waiting or dealing with your cases due to problems don't despair ok...IT WILL HAPPEN.... and anyone that feels they need a good immigration lawyer I can thoroughly recommend my one and he is also based right on hand in Chicago where all the papers get filed in the lockbox now.

His services from front to back have been superb and he is a credit to his profession. Not suggesting for one minute that other lawyers doing this are not equaly qualified but just that I have had such good service from mine and at a very reasonable cost.

I will stay in touch through Visa Journey and watch how all you other VJ'ers out there are progressing and please feel free to ask me anything I can help with and if I can answer it with constructive information I will be glad to do so.

Thanks guys, GOD BLESS YOU and GOOD LUCK to you all.....Jim :lol::D:D:dance::):)

  5. PHEW!!!!! WE FINALLY DID IT, WHAT A RELIEF AND Y'KNOW WHAT, HARTFORD HAS SOME GREAT AOS INTERVIEWERS AND OURS WAS EXCEPTIONAL, THANKS HARTFORD FOR MAKING A HARROWING EXPERIENCE INTO A PLEASENT MORNING TRIP OUT FOR MY WIFE AND I.:lol::yes::dance::yes::yes:

I have my interview in Hartfod on Dec 12. Can you give some details?

    SherMike

    Hi Shermike,

Hartford Office is easy to find if you haven't already checked it out its on Main Street Hartford and there is adequate parking accross the street down a side street for 9 bucks. The offices there are undergoing some work so you have to enter the building via the small street to the left of the Federal building as you face it on Main street.

We arrived about 15 minutes before interview time and a notice instructs you to put your NOA letter under the slot in the counter as you enter the waiting area. We waited until our due time at 10.55am and the interviewer came out the door and called us both through. She was a very friendly and polite young woman with a nice manner that put us right at ease, but there is no guarantee you will get her, but the general atmosphere was one that dissolved most of our apprehension.

We stood for a minute on entering her small office and we were sworn in to tell the truth following which she invited us to both sit down.

She went over all the questions from the I-485 form regarding criminal offenses, drugs, terrorism etc., all of which I had answered "NO" to anyway and then proceeded to talk in an open manner about our relationship, how we met, when we first lived together, when we got married and then she asked for one or two pieces of evidence, photos, joint banking statements etc. all of which we had taken in a well presented file case. After about 10 minutes she left the office briefly, returning with my passport with my I-94 page removed she then said "there you go you have the I-551 stamp fully work authorized" but she explained it was Conditional due to us not being married for 2 years yet and then said "you will receive an approval notice in a few days from now" followed by "you should receive your GC in the regular mail in about 2 weeks, CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU BOTH." I handed her my EAD card as this would no longer be required, they do this so there are no official cards floating around out there to be potentially used for illegal means. We thanked her for the way she had treated us and also complimented her on her technique of interviewing to which she thanked us in return and we left. The whole proceedure start to finish took no more than 20 minutes, in fact about 35 minutes in all including waiting time.

WE HOPE THIS INFO HELPS YOU IN A SUCCESSFUL INTERVIEW INTERVIEW IN DECEMBER, GOOD LUCK FROM US BOTH AND KEEP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE IT DOES HELP IN PRESENTING A BELIEVABLE CASE.

    :yes::D:D

  6. Thanks again everyone! I've just wrote a letter telling them I had my medical, handed in envelope at POE etc so fingers crossed - in the mean time i'm getting my vaccination records from my own doctor sent over so i'm ready for the RFE! Its around $90 for a medical here in fresno as I called round yesterday and so long as i have my vac record from england they said i wouldn't need them again.....i'm trying to be prepared just in case! Hopefully we get a nice officer!!

    Sam :star:

    Hi Sammy,

If you get the form 3025 from the UK Dr's that did your medical and Vaccinations and take that along to a Board Surgeon here in the USA they can transpose the info from that to the Form 693 Suppliment that they require here but they will charge you for this service, some even insist you have the full medical again so you have to enquire to one that will be willing to just see your form 3025 and transpose the info to the 693 Suppliment form as the USCIS dont use the form 3025 and mostoly always insist on the 693 Suppliment when filing for AOS EAD AND AP ...Hope this helps you out..

    Regards and good luck....Gladdy

  7. Oh man, you just missed it by one day! I missed it by a few weeks.

I would go tomorrow too, just what Diane said.

    Good luck,

    Beee

THANKS GUYS FOR THE RESPONSES AND SUPPORT.

I went along today as you advised and the reception official noticed I was a day late but the uniformed officer sitting with him said that they were seeing everyone that came in today as it was not that busy.

A supervisor came over and she insisted I should reschedule but the other guy stood his ground and said the senior USCIS Officer of the day had given him a briefing that they would see everyone that came in today so I got lucky and my Bio's were all taken...so panic over..

Thanks again, y'know people on here should be very grateful for the way everyone rallies in support when they need them and all you guys should be proud of yourselves for passing on good info to people who need it.

God Bless you all and "Thank God for friends".

  8. How long ago was the appointment??? They give you a few months to go before they consider the application abandoned. They should have also put on the appointment letter what days you can make it up if it is missed. I would definetley ask your lawyer to see the letter in person because all that information is on it.

    Diana

My appointment was actually dated the 25th July on the letter that my lawyer copied to me which we had not printed off until today but in a conversation with him last week I was seeking his advice on if I could travel in case it came through and he said well you can go on vacation now on the 6th of August because your appointment is next Wednesday being as I understood it the 26th July...and he was even told that my wife could go with me to ensure I find it ok as she is off on Wednesdays...then we looked at the letter when we printed it off tonight and it appears I have missed it as it said it was the 25th July ...now we are worried because we cant contact my lawyer on what we should do...maybe if I went there tomorrow and explained all that they would still do it huh..?

  9. ANYONE HERE THAT CAN ADVISE ME WHAT CAN HAPPEN IF I MISSED THE BIOMETRICS APPOINTMENT.

MY LAWYER CALLED ME AS I HAD NOT RECEIVED MY APPOINTMENT NOTICE AND HE TALKED TO ME ABOUT GOING TOMORROW BEING WEDNESDAY WHEN IN FACT WHEN I CHECKED THE NOTICE HE SENT OVER TO ME BU E-MAIL IT WAS IN FACT TODAY AND THEREFORE ACCORDING TO THE NOTICE I WILL BE CONSIDERED AS ABANDONING MY APPLICATION...ANYONE HELP ME WE ARE DESPERATE WHAT TO DO NOW...?

  10. umm regarding the medical - im confused i thought we could choose out of 3 places to have the medical, in my case I would have chosen Birmingham, but I read somewhere that there is only one place to go and thats in London. Can anyone clarify that? preferably someone who has the pack 3 for London with the instructions in it, or if someone could direct me to where i could get this info.

    Thanking in advance

    Lina (UKC)

    Hi,

I had my medical in London and if you have received your pack3 it should give details of where you have to call to book an appointment for your medical. For London it is Knightsbridge Doctors. Hope this infio helps you out and good luck.

  11. I LOVE Football. I notice that most americans thinks I am a Dallas Cowboy American Football Fan when actually, i love what is known here as " soccer" .

Guys from UK and Southamerica: Do you enjoy watching american football? I don't.

God Bless the Hand of God!

Hey, Im English, well for now I am...lol... I have played in my younger years, Soccer as we brits refer to as Football, I also played Rugby football, and amazingly I played a few games of American Football for a local enthusiasts league here in London that was running way back and yknow what, they all have their individual merits as in all instances the people playing the game have to be fit and learn the rules and plays so as to make it both fun to be playing and fun to those watching because they are all spectator sports. So each to their own and thanks to all the sportsman who have provided me with many hours of entertainment recalling what age has sadly denied me of the ability to participate in now..."Rah Rah Rah"...anyone out there lend me some Pom Poms...lol

  12. I wouldn't assume that a large percentage of those who adjust from other visas were dishonest. I'd like tho think that most of them truly decided to marry after they were already here. In any case, they are faced with much more scrutiny for their adjustment and must convince the adjudicator that they did not enter the U.S. for the purpose of immigrating. I would think that this path for adjustment must be much more stressful as the chances of denial are greater.

OK the word honest was the wrong word to use, and I certainly didn't imply that people that enter the states and then get married on a spur of the moment thing are dis-honest........

It's just that I think that if more people KNEW about the latter option they would take the risk and then plead that it was just "co-incidental and pure chance" that they got married, than rather sit it out for 6-12 months in their home country......... do you understand what I'm getting at? I just feel hard done by because I was not aware of this option when I fell in love with my fiancee, and maybe if I had I would have pursued it?!

    Paul,

I would like to add to what others are saying by putting it to you that if say you was to take that risk and follow the route you have identified would you be prepared to face the prospect that if you do go that route and you fail to prove the legitimacy of what you have done ( albiet as stated some folks have done this but are seriously genuine and I say Good Luck and well done for a mistake that did not hinder anyone and proved to move in their favour) that they could easily deport you for Visa overstay or attempting to defraud the system and either one can carry a 3 year plus even up to 10 year ban from even attempting to get back into the USA because I too read a lot and have read this can happen and then what do you think is the safest option. When you equate the maybe but unlikely 1 year ( almost certainly less than a year) wait for the K1 process against the possibility of a deportation order that carries such a serious penalty potential I know which one I would prefer to take and I did it I went K1 to be sure that I get what I want so much and thats to be with my fiancee and get married without the sweat that any minute the law could pounce and say...Bye Bye Mr Gladdy your company is no loinger required in our country... Think about it buddy...frustration hurts but denial hurts even more and self imposed agony due to committing a deliberate act to deceive the authrities is a very imature way to operate.

Be patient, all good things are worth waiting for.

  13. Hi Folks,

  14. Hi, I know its frustrating all the aiting as Im up for my interview tomorrow morning but when I received my packet 4 the original letter they had made out to send to me with that packet had 14th Dec 2005 on it and I didnt get packet 4 until 17 January 2006 as it had obviously been sitting in the Consulate offices for a whole month without any action. They certainly hadnt sent it before that because I CHECKED THE POSTMARK ON THEIR ENVELOPE AND IT SAID 13TH JAN 2006. so these things do happen and I wouldnt be unduly concerned because it can easily take 4 weeks plus for them to get back to you with an interview date.

I have everything crossed for luck that you hear very soon ok..."OUCH"!! THAT HURTS...ok revision here almost everything crossed...lol...

  15. Hi everyone,

My fiance's interview is tomorrow morning (10:30-London time) at the Embassy in London. Just a little over 6 hours. I hope everything goes well, and the interview is as smoothly as everyone has said it is.

We've been waiting for this day for what feels like forever! He plans to book his flight over as soon as he has his visa in his hand. He's hoping (me too!) that he'll be here on Friday, but of course it depends when he receives his visa. His birthday is on Saturday. Our wedding is set for April 1st. I've been planning pretty much all of it by myself.

We are so ready to be together. Good luck to everyone else as you go through this process. I find that people generally have a difficult time understanding what it's like unless they've been through it. We've been apart so much that I won't take him for granted.

    :)

    Hi MrsDarby,

My Interview is at 8.30am on the 8th March at the Embassy in London also so good luck to your fiancee and I too hope you will be together very soon and he can see the fruits of all your efforts in arranging the marriage. We all suffer through this kinda thing and I sometimes wonder what has kept myself and my fiancee going all these months but yknow what? its cause we have found the love for another that one rare connection in life that we feel we just cant let go of despite the stresses hardships worry and expense we just soldier on right to the final bell. Anyone who has not experienced all this will never understand but those that have will have a relationship that has already been well and truly tested to the limits and that is something that most entering into a relationship in normal circumstances dont experience until they have been married some time and that then can often be a turning point. So God Bless you both good luck and here's to all the VJ'ers on here because we are now Family by association. :):D:dance::dance::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::star:

  16. Seems so this is on the same subject of one of the questions I was going to ask at a later stage, I figured I'd nip it in the bud now to save webspace.

Basically when I move to the US from the UK I will be looking at transferring a bulk of cash, for arguments sake $5k-$10k US. This will be from my UK account to my US account. How would I go about this?

Also I am planning on leaving my credit card accounts running back home in the UK as I will still have to pay back the full balances over time. I'm thinking of leaving my existing debit account with a small amount of £GBP in there to cover those payments and then if I need to, wire money from my new US account to my old UK debit account and make payments that way.

Any ideas on how I go about all of this, hopefully I was clear on what I was asking!

    Regards,

    Justin :)

    Hi,

I saw this thread and decided to add my take on this, I'm with the Nat West in the UK nad they will transfer all my money to the USA for one fee of £18, you dont have to file anything and as long as its from your bank account no one will be asking you anything although knowing the USA the feds will be getting notice of the wire transfer and will establish the facts on your account balance that existed at home in England.

My bulk is from a house sale too along with a considerable sum of personal savings and monies from things I cashed in like PEP's and Investment plans that you cant keep if you leave the country and no longer pay tax here.

So bottom line is its your money do what you want with it but if your going to marry the USC then you may as well show total trust in them and take out a joint bank account with them especially if they have the SSN and you dont, that minor detail can be added once you have your own SSN.

Then you have the benefit of having their credit score attached to your name as well and can use ATM's and have a check book and as they do being a joint account holder.

Im going to buy myself a car and despite being able to do that outright I'm going to have some on credit too and just pay it off after a few months, get a no interest credit loan and pay it off early it still reflects credit points.

Hope this is useful to you cause Im sure its not as complicated as some make it sound albeit their intentions are good andits how they percieve it.

  17. Ok.... so I'm leaving for London on March 5th, interview is March 8th, 9:30 am.....and I have no idea what to wear. I'm in southeast Texas, so it's not very cold..... Tony (hubby) says it's really cold in London, and this Texas girl is not used to that nor do I have that kind of 'winter' wear. But my big question is, what do I wear for the interview?!? Can it be casual (nice jeans & a shirt), dressier? can I go in my normal clothes or should I dress up in something that i normally wouldn't wear?

Currently I look normal, but I'm fighting the temptation to dye some of my hair teal. When my husband met me I had purple hair :-) I work at a store called Hot Topic.... thats why I get to do silly stuff like dye my hair strange colors, and dress a little wierd

As it is, due to the fact that his boss isn't letting him off the night before the interview (he works nights), and he lives to far away (2 hours by bus), I'm going to have to go to work with him, and then head straight out from there to the embassy. So i get to hang out at Tesco all night, hehe.... but I get to watch him work :-)

    Any advise would be appreciated.

    cheers,

    Christine

Hey, My interview is also that same day at 8.30am and I was also thinking how should I dress for the occasion. So I came up with this plan that as their single objective is to determine that I wont become a burden on the state if they let me into the USA I'm gonna wear every bit of jewellery I have and make sure its on display..I'll also wear my suede jacket, one to ward off the cold outside whilst waiting to get in and also it looks like I can afford good clothes, and I may even take someone with me and pretend they are my butler/footman and tell them to go get the carriage as soon as Im ready to leave..and inform Mommy I'll be back at the Palace very soon....lol...JUST KIDDING OK!!

I would say just wear what makes you feel comfortable and at ease and presents you in your most favourable manner cause I think that although they should not be swayed by appearances cause we all have our own personality this whole process seems to attempt to strip us of that and we become a statistic who needs to be dealt with, so keeping that Aura of individuality and Karma as a person does project a better image to anyone who is conducting an interview.

  18. I must admit when I woke up yesterday, I has positive thoughts, despite my situation with my visa....

and my positivity kept me going.......

it kept me from not having a panic attack on the most crowded tube trains I've ever seen (and being claustrophobic that isn't easy) going to the embassy...

and through the zero temp when waiting outside the embassy, when it proceeded to snow slightly (ask Tom to confirm this one, it was bloody freezing)

it also kept me going when I had to wait an hour to hand in my documents.....(after entering at 11 am)

however the positivity started to dwindle after this..........the waiting and waiting was endless. I can't remember when I stopped listening or looking at the board telling people to go to booth no. x. I watched one after one immigrant visa applicant (that arrived after me) handed their pink form and then go out the door with happy smiles, only to sit and wait and stress....

this continued until 4 PM, THEY MADE ME WAIT 4 HOURS IN THERE AT THE END OF MY TETHER. I realise that there are a lot of applicants, I have been there before to get a tourist visa.... but why so long??, it was cruel to make someone wait so long without not knowing how things would go. I sopke to another man who had been waiting since 1 pm and he had three young children with him, and the poor things were so tired and upset.

anyway after having been called I spoke to a nice man who spoke positively and this raised my hopes..... until they all came crashing down and he said that I would need to submit a waiver. I asked him why and he said that my previous convictions constituted CIMT and that I HAD TWO of them, and if there is more than one involved then this applies (any other person in the same situation should remember this)

By this time I didn't have the energy or strength to disagree with him and that I had checked in the US dept of state official guidelines which state that having more than 1 conviction does not necessarily indicate a visa deniel etc...

and so I paid my money and handed over our waiver......... I'm sorry if this sounds sceptical guys but I really wonder some times if there are "border line" cases and that they say you need a waiver just for the revenue it generates.

anyhow just when I thought "get me out of here" the guy then had to take my fingerprints. This was the low point of the day.......... it made me feel so like a criminal......... and it unearthed feelings and thoughts that had happened from a previous matter that happened a long time ago and should have stayed buried in the past, where they belonged. It didn't help matters much when he said it was standard procedure.

and so at 4.30pm I walked out of there absolutely broken..........

I'm sorry If this message sounds so down guys, it was just a terrible day, and it helps to share things you know. I know things didn't go too bad, just plan B eh? I mean we had a good waiver (hopefully) prepared and I'm putting this in the back of my mind now for a while............ i just wanted him to say "approved" so much it overoad my rationality.

It great news to here about Tom, and I hope there are many more approved's to come... but for now I'm gonna have to go to "pending"

good to luck to everyone out there, I'll be taking a "backseat" for a while

best wishes to all VJ members

    Hi PAUL,

For the benefit of anyone on here who finds it in themselves to pontificate over

anyone who suffers a bad time at any stage of these proceedings I would like to bring their attention to a poem I wrote which is on page 2 I think of this forums opening pages and its under my name (gladdy) posted at the date and time shown here.

We all have different ways of dealing with things that affect something we are trying to acheive and the knocks that we can suffer along the way but if we are all in the same boat then any leak will surely sink us all or if there is one person that feels it in themselves to rock the boat then it will capsize and take everyone with it. So my idea would be that if that one person is set on doing that then the decent thing to do would be for them to jump overboard so that the rest of us can survive. Then again those that choose to take everyone else down with them are usually those that have little courage or the ability to look towards their fellow travellers and consider their feelings and do something totally unselfish to maybe give others the will to survive. "THANK YOU" I am now stepping down off my soapbox.

  19. The embassy should recieve our petition this week. Renato will be quitting his job within the next 2 weeks and go to his mothers house. He wants to spend some time with his family before he moves to the US. Should we just call the embassy and notify them of the change of address?

    hello Steph,

All i did when I changed my address after the Embassy had received my papers from NVC was to send in a cover letter with the returned Packet 3 papers they ask for immediately. On the letter I confirmed that in anticipation of moving to the USA I had taken temporary accomodation therefore my address had changed from that on the papers to my new address which I then proceeded to detail for them.

Just be sure to have him sign the letter in his normal signature and state Delete Previous address, blah blah

    ADD: New address:::::blah blah blah

:):):whistle: B)

  21. You can buy a one way ticket, the K-1 visa allows it, but often it's cheaper to get a round trip. So whatever works better for you.

Hi, so for my sake ok as Im a bit put of touch with the travel thingy, if my US fiancee wants to come over to the UK to be here with me prior to my going to the USA and she was to book herself a return ticket from there and also book me a return ticket from there because its cheaper that way but I obviosly would not be using the USA Outbound part of that ticket just the return half then that would not raise any eyebrows with the POE Officer ...is that a correct understanding of this situation, because her booking flights there including a single flight for me to go back with her would make my single ticket cost almost twice her return fare but if what you say is ok then we can save maybe 300 bucks by booking 2 return tickets and dumping the outbound half of my ticket.
