  1. I-864 General/Relationship Questions:

A little confused as to what I-864 forms I need to provide. Here's my situtation:

    - I am the sponsor for my wife, however, on my taxes, I have made a total of $0.00 in the US for the last three years. So...

    - My father is my joint sponsor.

    - My mother and father file taxes jointly.

I am under the impression that I need:

    - An I-864 for myself

    - An I-864 for my father, the joint sponsor

    - An I-864a for my mother.

If this is correct, on my mother's I-864a, do I indicate her relationship to my father, or her relation to me?

    Household Questions:

I have recently moved back to America and am living with my parents until my wife can join me here. My parents can not claim me as a dependent, but the 3 of us are living in the same house together. On the I-864 for myself, should I indicate that my household size is 2, 1 for myself, 1 for my wife? Or, should I include my parents in my household size, for a total of 4?

Also, same question for my father's I-864. Does his household include him, my mother, me and my wife, for a total of 4? Or, is it just my mother and father, and my wife, for a total of 3?

I'm sorry for all of the complicated questions. I'm just about ready to send everything off. Just want to make sure I get everything right the first try. Any help is very, very much appreciated.

  2. Oh, oops, yeah, I meant NOA2. Sorry about the mistaken vernacular throughout. Thank you Ryan H for your insight.

We have received the notice saying that our petition has been approved. My wife and I both received letters asking for financial documents, as well as a list of other things. We only need to send in one package, right?

A little clarification on some of these.

    2. Is this proof of my relationship with my joint sponsor?

    3. Is this proof of US status for joint sponsors?

Again, any help is much appreciated.

  3. I got my NOA1 a while ago. I was busy orchestrating an international move, among other things, and haven't been able to get the second package out yet. I have many, many questions about this package though. I was hoping some of you could help me out with this. I have been trying to call the Visa center itself, and it appears to be basically impossible to actually get through to a person there. Here we go:

    1. From the time you receive your NOA1, how long do you have to send everything off?

    2. What is proof of relationship? Is this like pictures, letters, emails, etc. that I sent with the I 130?

    3. What is proof of US status?

    4. Proof of assets. Not needed if you exceed poverty guidelines, right?

    5. Is it necessary to file form I 864A?

    6. My father will be co-sponsoring. Do I need a copy of his birth certificate, or his whole passport, or both?

    7. My father and my mother file their taxes jointly. Do I need to send my mother's birth certificate, W2s, etc.?

    8. My father is self-employed and doesn't have W2s, per se. Can I just check 'Not Applicable' on the cover sheet for this?

Any help is very much appreciated. If you only know the answer to one of these, but you're the expert on that one question, by all means, please answer. Thank you all in advance.

  4. My wife is pregnant. We are very happy about it. But, we sent in our I-130 package around the middle of February, and she was not pregnant then.

I'm a U.S. citizen, my wife is Japanese. We currently live in Japan. I'll be moving to the U.S. in April.

I assume we will still be in this process when she gives birth later this year. How will this affect the process? Do we just have to get a U.S. passport for the baby?

Also, can I visit Japan when the baby is born?

    Many, many thanks.

  5. Hopefully the last of my silly questions. Just want to make sure I get everything right the first time.

I've got our CR-1 package assembled and just about ready mail off. But...

On the backs of 20 photos and on notes attached explaining what things are, I didn't write my middle name, only my first and last.

Also, my signature only includes my first and last name. Is this ok?

  6. We live in Shizuoka, Japan. This is three characters too long to fit in the (State/Country) field on the I-130. I was prepared to make a supplement form, just wondering about how I should format it. Should I try to duplicate the I-130 format or is something like below sufficient?

    (Imaginary information, by the way)

    Kimi Suzuki

    Any Street 456-7

    Daisy Chain Bill Room XX

    Nanishi, Shizuoka

    Japan

    4XX-XXXX

Thank you in advance. I'm sorry for such a pain in the butt question.

  7. My wife and I live in Japan currently. We have lived together at this address for about 9 months. We originally worked together, and in Japan, dating your coworker is kind of frowned upon. So, when we moved, she didn't change her address officially.

Now, I'm filling out the I-130. For my wife's address, it seems that I should list it as the one currently registered officially with the Japanese government. Or, does it really matter? Can I list our current address for both of us? Also, there is a question about the last address at which we lived together. Is it ok to list our current address in this section? If they investigate this, they might decide that she never actually lived here (though we do have bills with her name on them at this address).

Seems like something I want to get right, considering it will probably be one of the first things they read about our case.

Thank you in advance for your time and advice.

  8. First of all, thanks f it taking the time to read this. If this isn't in the right place, I apologize. We will be filing for the CR1 visa at some point, so I thought this was as good a place as any.

I'm a US citizen living in Japan. My fiancée is Japanese. We will be visiting my hometown, Salt Lake City, Utah during winter vacation. We want to be legally married while we are there. We will be coming back to Japan at the very end of the year. Is this ok?

Couldn't find anything on the Internet with the same variables as this situation, so I thought it would be a good idea to post here.

Thanks again. Any help is much appreciated.
