  1. teachermarites-

That's discouraging to see how long you've been stuck in AP. I wonder if they give a higher priority to some immigrant visas over others to account for the long wait times some get and the shorter times others receive. As for my case, it's my wife. I know she had priority to get her case approved and sent on to Manila. But I wonder now how things work out.

Today, I was about to go to bed and I had a feeling that tells me to check the visa status online.....and voila!! it said "ISSUED". Thank God finallyyyyy after 4 months in AP.

I called the embassy customer service on Monday, April 18th and updated the case on 19th...... and today it was issued.

If I was able to hang for these long, then you should b able to and your beneficiary... Hang in there and always keep them in check about the status.. Parents/Spouse of citizens always get priority but when it comes to AP, it depends on the complexity of case. Hope your wife will have her visa issued soon.

You follow up every two weeks. What type of replies do you get?

I always get the same response lol! :goofy:

Once, that's how I got them to email me what's going on... they told me on email that HK police clearance is not yet received when in fact it was already mailed few months ago. smdh

Just be patient and give them a call every once in a while so they keep opening your case. Everytime I call, after a day, I see a status update on the case. That alone helps me feel better coz I know they are working on it.

  3. No experience with that specific scenario. However, I did teach my younger siblings to drive and they would give me a headache from all the sudden hard braking and not following instructions. Just buy her driving lessons. 10 1-hour lessons should be more then enough.

I have not driven a car in the Philippines or any kind of vehicle but I learned how to drive in 1 week after being in the US for not even a month. I drove a 1994 car. I read the DMV book by heart and I got my license at the end of the month.

In short, it is not hard to learn how to drive....as long as you are interested and willing to learn.

  4. I am having the same scenario. My mother who was interviewed on December 2015. She was put on AP because her Police Clearance was not release before the interview. HK said it was sent on December 17 and US embassy manila told me after 3 months, that they have got no HK police clearance. It's now April and we're running 5 month since the interview and it is really frustrating. I never failed to follow up every after 2 weeks.

  5. NVC does not send letter anymore. They just email you. So it does not really tell the names of which letter they are giving you. SO far, I've got a welcome letter and with that, it came with a checklist.... I already sent all supporting documents to the NVC and I am just waiting for an email confirming that the review is completed and the interview appointment.

I've gone through search button and looked for same case but everything's outdated....

But thanks for the effort.... I appreciate it. I'll keep looking...

  6. Thanks...I already read all those information before I posted my question because it wasn't clear enough.

Part of the requirements: It said:

"A photocopy (for each applicant) of the letter from NVC which contains his/her name and the checklist of documents necessary for obtaining a visa (the one that references the need for police certificates);"

WHAT KIND OF LETTER FROM NVC DO THEY NEED?

Processing for HK Clearance takes 6 weeks...

If I wait for the interview letter appointment, that's about 5 weeks before the interview...

SO what letter from NVC, can I give the letter that I got from NVC the first time the case has been processed?

  7. HELLO..

ANYONE HERE WHO HAVE A RECENT EXPERIENCE ON GETTING HK POLICE CLEARANCE?

My mother is in the Philippines and I checked all the requirements.

Fingerprint -------------Where to get an acceptable one?

Documents ------------When do you send this documents in HK? When interview has been scheduled or now?

    Thank you!

  8. Hi, I wanna ask for some advice/input regarding my mother's situation. I really want to have some ideas about this name changed in birth certificate in the Philippines.

I petitioned my mother 2 months ago, so far, all I got is the NOA1 and is still waiting for the approval. But while waiting, my mother found out that she doesn't have a birth certificate registered in the National Statistic Office in the Philippines. So she flew to her place of birth and filed for late registration for birth certificate.

In that Local Civil Registry, they wouldn't let my mother use her name she was using all her life. Her name is Sylvia Pastrana Suarez, she is using it all her life. That's the name she has in my birth certificate. And since I was born out or wedlock as well, and my name is Jen** Pastrana Suarez. The reason why she couldn't use that name is, she was born before her parents got married. She was born in 1963 and parents got married in 1984. So, the LCR registered her as Sylvia Pastrana, she's now using my Grandma's maiden name. And she has been told, the only way to use her father's name, Suarez, is to file for legitimation. But, they wouldn't let her file legitimation either because of her lacking of documents stating that my deceased Grandpa acknowledged her as his child with his signature on it . And there is nothing we can show them, my Grandma and Grandpa are both deceased. My problem is, there is no way to change my mother's family name. She's now Pastrana and I am Suarez. I should be Jen** Pastrana as well. Our name doesn't match anymore. What should I do? Will it be a big deal for USCIS or in US Embassy?

PS: In the Philippines, our middle name is always our mother's maiden name.

    PLEASE ADVICE ME! THANK YOU!!!

Did the registrar office suggest anything to fix it, example: does her child/children (you) need to change as well? It might be a problem but since you are married, you no longer use Suarez and here in the US, you can drop names like your middle name which is suppose to be your maiden name as well.

In your mom's case, it will be a long painful process to fight for the name she'd been using and she's known for unless you guys consult an attorney.

  9. No, one form exclusively about your father and another form for mother... treat it like a separate case.. separate case number and information.... but your income info should be the same on both papers it's. In a part where u need to enter how many immigrant your are sponsoring, just 1 for each form, and for household, your father plus ur household and the other form your mother plus your household.

Say, you have to count how many household u have, 1 youself, 1 your spouse, 1 your kid, 1 the person u are sponsoring in the form = 4 household....

  10. In my case they wrote short version of the name. Good example is William is called Bill.

During war people were not super literate I guess or my dad's grandma didn't realize that my dad's official name is different.

Later in life as he went to school his name was always put down as William which was enough to convince the passport agency to give him passport with that name.

He should have made an official name change but who knew...

I see you are from Seattle!

    Anyways...

My mom too... She grew up with the name PERLITA, went to school, got married and had children.... all documents says PERLITA. Later on, she needed to go abroad and found out, NSO says ROSMELIE on her birth certificate. She went ahead and use ROSMELIE to apply for passport which was sufficient enough to support identity. They gave her passport with ROSMELIE. 15 years later, I petitioned her and BOOM! My birth cert does not match her.

  11. Yes, I have similar issue. His name in passport and on my birth certificate match but my dad's birth certificate name is different.

We have a court date scheduled for this but I always wonder if affidavit would be enough.

The one that should match is your and your dad's birth certificate. Fix dad's name first then bring that document to DFA to make adjustment in his passport.

I wonder why there is such a court order, my mom never went to that.

  12. I just got out of this loop few weeks ago. It depends on how complicated your case is. Mine, was really complicated and to correct everything took us almost 2 years from birth certificate correction to passport application.

If your mother was never issued any passport before, that's better. All you do is file a correction at NSO, no attorney or court order needed. Visit your local registrar office in your town. The most important here is that your mother's name in your birth certificate should match your mom's birth certificate and other siblings you may want to petition in the future.

in my case, my mother's name in her birth cert is completely different from what's on my birth cert and my siblings so what we did is to file name change on my mother's name to follow what she known and what is on most of her documents to be consistent. It will take about 5-8 months depending how fast you follow up and keep track on the process...

How did this happen? We don't know but it happened because Philippine system on registering names isn't as good as other countries.

To make matters worse on my story, my mom went abroad for few years ago with same name on her birth certificate, when she went back to the Philippines on January, she went right away to the DFA to change passport name to the new name and DFA asked tons of documents again, affidavit of explanation, discrepancy and all that... IT WAS A HEADACHE!

My two cents, fix it as soon as you can!

  13. What was the format of your NBI with aka?

The consul asked me to get an NBI Clearance (with a.k.a.) for Misharell Kaye Ligero

My current name is Misharell Kaye L. Osoteo

In my BC - Misharell Kaye Ligero

My name in bc was corrected and im now using Misharell Kaye L. Osoteo

If I applied for an NBI with aka, what should I put in the main section and what should be in AKA since the instructions was: NBI Clearance (with a.k.a.) for Misharell Kaye Ligero

My dad had the same issue, his birth cert was misspelled or has clerical errors which we corrected. Now, in you NBI certificate, your name now and your name before in your BC should both reflect on your NBI clearance. your aka should be what was written in ur bc as what the consul told you. Anyways, if u go to taft avenue, in the main office, there's a special case booth for you and they help u out. they know what to do if ur unsure

  14. If your mother lives in Manila or from a city close to Manila, she can attend the seminar at CFO in Quirino Ave once she gets her passport with US visa on it. It's a 2 hour class and after they she will get a certificate for attending and they attached a sticker at the back of the passport. She needs that in order to pass the immigration at the airport in Manila only not in the US.

My dad lives far from Manila, he'll be interviewed on the 9th. He will take the class after the interview and come back later once he gets his passport and visa, 2 days before he flies.

  15. You will receive an email about your parents' interview schedule and a summary of documents that have been submitted and it will tell you the documents they need to show at the interview.

    It's case to case basis...

But here are some documents that they need to bring and MUST BE ORIGINAL COPY NOT PHOTOCOPY.

    1. Birth certificate of parents and petitioner

    2. Father needs marriage certificate

    3. Police clearance

    4. Passport (Of course)

    5. Medical Examination results in an UNONPENED envelope.

    6. Photocopy of the Affidavit of support (photocopy only since you submitted the original documents in NVC, that includes the latest year tax return.

  16. I saw this on its webpage. Maybe there's an issue.

Try again at a later time.

    Important Notice:
We are aware that some applicants continue to experience technical difficulties accessing Form DS-260, Form DS-261, or paying immigrant visa processing fees. Please visit this page for instructions on how to continue processing your case if you receive technical error messages when trying to access these forms. If you have an emergency need, please contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where your visa will be processed for further instructions. We are working to address this issue and apologize for any inconvenience.
  17. Your wife can choose an agent for her and put her name as the petitioner to be the agent also.

Choosing agent is the first step. The USCIS or NVC needs to know who they are going to send emails or letters regarding the petition.

I chose myself as the agent and put all my contact information since I am the petitioner and my parents don't know how to use computer. It's okay. When filling up the form, it will ask if you are the recipient, petitioner or third party. Just choose petitioner.

Good luck on your in-laws journey...

  18. How old is your dad? Check the age exempt from attending the seminar. He can go to CFO after he receives the visa.

    Thanks...

He's less than 60... he needs to attend.

With the new appointment system that CFO is using I would say to attend CFO after your father has his visa.

    Thanks..

Yes, we decided to just attend after he gets his visa...
