I was told no by the NVC, but brought them anyway.
-
I was told by the NVC that a translation was only needed if the documents were different than English and/or the language of the place of interview. Having said that, if your documents are in Spanish, you will probably need translations of the documents in the US. I would get translations of her birth certificate and marriage certificate.

In our DS 260 application, we marked that we wanted them to issue the social security card upon issuing the visa. How does this work? Do they send it to us? How long does it take? Is my husband unable to work until he has the card?
-
He had to be in his underwear, but that was it. (No physical exam...must be nice! I wish women's exams were that way!) They asked if he ever had cancer, HIV, or hepatitis. What specifically is he afraid of?

Oh my goodness! This process is horrible for everyone, but for you guys... You deserve a full doctoral degree, some diamonds, and a miniature unicorn when it is all finally over.
What was supposed to happen? Did they not record her POE entrance, or what happened?

My husband just did his in Colombia. He said it was super easy. He did not have vaccine records, so they determined that he needed three vaccines which they gave him on the spot. He said that he was asked a bunch of questions regarding his past (medical history). It was no biggie.

You guys saved our lives! I am so grateful for this group. We would have totally missed that detail.
Did you guys read in the 3/4 packet about the $230 non-refundable application fee? What is that? Wouldn't that have been the IV application fee of $325? That we had to pay before being allowed to submit an application?
-
Thank you! I've always heard that referred to as the case number and didn't realize the Spanish translation would be different! Thank you! Just a follow up question from the packet 3/4 info, it says to come prepared to pay a $230 non-refundable visa application fee. Isn't that the IV Fee ($325)? Or is this in addition to that fee? And different than the $165 fee for the actual visa?

This question is Colombia specific. I am trying to register my interview with the embassy and choose the DHL site. It is asking for the "número de expediente". What number is that? I have only seen the phrasing case ID, invoice ID, and beneficiary ID. What number is this and where do I find it?

Hey everone does anyone know if at the finger print appt before the interview is there another fee for that or is that included in the fees that we already paid to nvc ...and Also the visa fee after you get approved at your appt .. I know it says you have pay for this before you travel to the U.S. online with Uscis but how True is this and I called them and they said it takes 30days to process is that a fact ?? Not approved yet but Just curious
Wait? A fingerprint appointment? Before the interview? I don't recall reading anything about that. Could you expand on that please?

We are about to go through Dr. Roa, and I don't recommend him. He sent us an email stating (at random) to not get vaccines anywhere else or it could mess us up. This is not correct information. It states in the letter that one could bring vaccine records and states on the USCIS page that you can get vaccines elsewhere and bring record. He put it in caps as well. I have also read that he will give vaccines that one doesn't need (either not age appropriate or out season (ie flu shot)). If it is not too late to switch, we will

Honey, the chances of this man becoming physically abusive are very high. He is already demonstrating emotional abuse and a total disregard for you. He is showing you that he does not love you. He might sweet talk you, he may tell you he loves you and apologize, but what he DEMONSTRATES is very different. This situation is very dangerous. I am very concerned for you!

Oh my goodness, my husband and I are in AZ and we would love to meet you and your wife. AZ is FULL of diversity. My husband and I are very interested in Hebrew. There are so many people here that love internationals and want to make everyone feel welcome! I agree that meetup.com is a good resource. But truly, if you come to AZ, message me, and my husband and I will help you adjust!

Oh, Honey. I am so sorry you are in this situation. As mentioned above, the decision is yours. I work with families that have had their children removed due to abuse and neglect to help them get their lives together so that they can get their children back. Part of my job is challenging the dysfunctional thoughts/behavior of the person in hopes that they can recognize the behavior and make different choices.
I am very concerned with a few things you have written. If your fiance finds it "too stressful" looking for a job, it is not likely he is going to successfully handle stress/responsibility when he is responsible for a wife and a child. The stress for him is going to increase, not decrease. Secondly, you mentioned that his coping mechanism is escaping via video games and entertainment. This will also increase with increased stress. He does not seem to have the emotional maturity at this point to make different decisions. This will likely look like lots of "escaping" and emotional disengagement. Next, you have communicated how valuable this is to you, and the consequences of him not looking for a job are severe, yet it still has not motivated him. I see people make decisions to not correct behavior, even when it risks losing their children, every day. It's not on purpose. There is just not the capacity there to make mature, responsible decisions. Lastly, suggesting that you stay illegally is a major character concern. It puts you in danger. It puts your family and your future in danger. That is not a loving suggestion. That type of thought process will not be limited to your immigration status.
There are some major concerns here. Do you have people near you who love you and support you that could give you some feedback?

I feel like I am getting mixed messages with the medical exams and vaccinations, and I do not trust the doctor we chose. (He wrote everything that was we were expected to bring, then specifically wrote, 'Don't forget that the embassy does not accept vaccinations from other doctors.' I have not read that anywhere nor see any reason that is not motivated by being able to charge the person more???)
So it says on the NVC page:
The following vaccinations are required for immigration purposes:
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Influenza
- Influenza type b (Hib)
- Measles
- Meningococcal
- Mumps
- Pneumococcal
- Pertussis
- Polio
- Rotavirus
- Rubella
- Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
- Varicella
I am being told by other members that many of those are recommended, but not required.
What was your guys' experience with the medical appointment? How much did you end up spending total?
Particularly if you were in Colombia, what doctor did you use, and were they trust-worthy?
-
Did anyone know which three are required? I can only find the long list.
-
Theres only 3 required shots...
Which ones? I saw a complete list which had like Hep A, Hep B, Varisella, and about 15 others. Which three were required?
-
I read recently that there have been issues with medical exams in Colombia with the 4 approved doctors charging $75 for each vaccination required. It raises some questions for me.
1. My husband does not have records of his vaccinations. Will he be required to get all 1 billion of the ones on the list?
2. If my husband did get the vaccinations at a different doctor, and brought documentation to the visit with an embassy-approved doctor, would they accept that?
Thank you!

Yes, I cannot live in the same country as my husband while they work on this. I want to cry every time I read that they are sorry for the "inconvenience". Having to live in another country as you spouse is something very different than inconvenient. That is very helpful to know that this could take months. I will send it in physically. Thank you!
-
Soooo since it has been a month with the webpage being non-functional for AOS and IV fees, I just wanted to ask if other people have had any luck sending it in physically. What has the turn-around time been like? I know they say 30 days, but I am wondering if it is more/less with the webpage being down.
Also, just for fun, if someone with knowledge in the IT field could explain to me how it could possibly take a month to fix an issue on a webpage, I am all ears. Even if they only had one guy, who worked part-time, who went on vacation, who got sick, and had surgery this month which caused him to lose all mobility except his left nostril...even then it probably shouldn't take this long. I don't want to be discouraging, but perhaps it is time to sit down for a heart-to-heart to have a "maybe this is not the best career choice for you" talk. "You are probably a great person, but IT doesn't seem to be your strength. Have you considered water ballet?..."

Thank you! I am referring to the AOS/IV packet, not the I130. On the cover sheet, it lists "proof of relationship" under #2 (Financial Documents).
-
In the AOS packet, under "proof of relationship", is that just our marriage certificate or is that where we include pictures, flights, joint bank accounts, etc?
-
Wait, can I ask where the 3x's is coming from? I thought it was 125% of the poverty line?
Fee Waivers
in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
Posted
Hello there! Does anyone have experience applying for a fee waiver when removing a condition for a CR-1 visa? I am my husband's sponsor, but was laid-off from work just before our daughter was born. If we apply for the fee waiver, would it put his status in jeopardy in any way?
Thank you for your help!
