  1. Hello,

I have been selected to apply for a green card. I have a low case number (in the hundreds, its actually current on the bulletin). I am currently in the US on a K1 visa, but I don't think we're getting married due to personal issues.

I completed the DS260 yesterday, and I requested for an AoS. I have 55 days left on the K1 visa and I am considering to pursue the green card from by home country.

Can I request to have it processed in my home country? Or should I go ahead and continue the AoS from inside the US

    Thanks

  2. Hello all!

I just arrived to the U.S. (yesterday) and since it takes more or less 2 weeks so that my name shows up in the SAVE system we are thinking to get married within the following week.

My question is: Can we get married while I wait the 2 weeks it takes for my name show up on the SAVE system?

If so, is the process any different than it would be if I apply for the SSN?

  3. I'm just going to chime in here on something not related at all to the OP so please forgive me. I just want to say how thrilled I am to be reading about the progress of same sex couples. Two and a half years ago when i started coming here to prepare for my visa journey this type of thread wasn't even happening as far as I know.

So I just want to say how happy I am for all those same sex couples out there who are able to start this journey. I hope a lot of couples on the board happen to see this though I doubt they will as it is a bit of a random post in a random place.

For those of us who think WE waited a long time to be with our loved ones (I'm not one... I got lucky and was fast) there are so many other couples who have been together for years and simply had no option just because they were of the same sex. So congrats to all of you who are finally able to be together!!!!

When we met online around dec 2012, we used to talk about how impossible it would be for me (the alien) to have immigration benefits even though in his state (Iowa) same sex marriage was legal.

Of course at that time we were just joking about it because we weren't "officially dating"... We were just online friends who happened to have a lot of things in common. I am really grateful to all the people who helped in one way or another to have DOMA repealed. They paved the very path that I am walking on right now and I am taking for granted.

Seriously, mad props to all those folks who pushed to repeal DOMA!

  4. Hello all,

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I am very confused on the process of getting a green card and a work permit as a K1 visa holder.

We have already filed the petition, it has been approved and it is at the NVC. We know what to do when the time comes for the interview at the consulate and all that, however, what happens next is a mystery to us.

I will be entering the US on a K1 visa in april. I need to know what to do next and I would like to be explained as if I was a five year old because whatever I read here and there doesn’t make much sense to me.

I know the first step is to get a SSN, and that I need to wait two weeks to be in the system so that I can file for it. Why is that?

what comes next? I know we must get a marriage license and obviously get married....

I don’t understant what the “adjustment of status” and “advance parole” means.

I would like to know the way for me to set the paperwork in order so that I can legally work.

I am so confused it’s frustrating. Please help me.
