Hi, I am an American woman who studies Arabic, and I'm writing on behalf of a Moroccan woman I met a few months ago when I was traveling. I met her on the plane, and I helped her in the airport because she does not speak English. She was traveling with her 2 young girls, and they were coming to the United States to live with her husband, who works in St. Louis, Missouri.
She has been calling me a lot recently, and I don't understand Arabic that well over the phone, so I asked a friend of mine who is fluent in Arabic to speak with her. It turns out that she wants to go back to Morocco with her daughters, but her husband doesn't want her to and she does not have any money. I believe she may be facing a domestic violence problem, but I am not sure.
I am not quite sure how to help her. I called the Moroccan embassy and they were not much help. Is there some agency for Moroccans living in the United States that she could call? Remember, she does not speak English, but she speaks French and Arabic.
