  1. You need to consult with the attorney handling your bankruptcy case.

You are right but I am trying to stay away from lawyers. Don't know how much money will be wasted for no reason.

Wow... sorry for all your trouble.

Please come back here to update us of the outcome of the lawsuit.

It will be an interesting case to all the people here who are sponsor or co-sponsor.

Sure I will but there is one advice Never do become co-sponsor for anyone . I learned this hard way.

**** Moving from Taxes forum to General Immigration for more answers *****

Thanks , Sorry for posting in wrong group.

  2. Thanks for having such a forum to help people like me. :ranting:

I got in trouble by signing co-sponsorship of one of my friend's daughter in law. The family did not have enough documented income to support the process.

I became their co-sponsor . The girl got green card in 2012 but they separated in 2014. Girl filed several cases against her ex-husband and in laws but lost all of those.

Now she has filed case against me to pay the fees and provide financial support being co-sponsor. I have received summons from the court to respond to that law suite within 30 days. Helping someone came back to haunt me.

If I file for Ch-13 bankruptcy will I be still responsible for her support and Do I need to respond to court for that case or Bankruptcy will automatically relieve me from that responsibility?

I also got pulled in their problem for witnesses stuff and I don't have money to pay to lawyers for nothing.

I will really really appreciate your help.
