Thanks guys, it was quite a journey. Today was white sheet for pass. Blue for fail. They only looked at our puctures before marriage and nothing else as evidence of relationship. Timeline wasnt even looked at. I didn't notice what color was the checklist.
congrats!

it's end of November?
Beginning of November

Paid the Ellis Immigration Fee so that is taken care of now. Now time to book her ticket......
congrats! we got our interview date yesterday so we're right behind you!

We just got our interview date too! Good to be a part of the club

Then you're past the USCIS stage and are in the hands of the State Department, and they are very much funded by taxpayers. Visas are not usually designated as "essential services" that must proceed even in the case of a shutdown.
i feared this... thanks
-
I can say USCIS would be affected somehow. However, please remember that, U.S Congress does not provide fund for USCIS for them to work. They get paid base on the fees that you paid for them whenever you submit a form, such as green card, fingerprinting, and citizenship, etc. Embassy/Consulate may still open but very limited.
interesting...
i wonder how we could find out just how much this impacts us...
-
USCIS is largely self-funded (by application fees), so shutdowns do not affect it nearly as much as other federal agencies. That being said, I'm sure it will have some repercussions somewhere - if it happens.
I hope so... we're on the last leg before our interview date (CC, but waiting at NVC still)... so not looking forward to any more delay!

The SSA shouldn't be on furlough until October 1st. If Congress passes a continuing resolution (like a temporary budget for a short period of time) on or before September 30th, there shouldn't be a shut down.
The USCIS may be affected, and I think they would cease. However, the foreign employees at the USEM's may still work. I know some foreign service jobs require you to still work, even during a shut down. If it lasts only two days, it's impractical to bring all the employees from all over the world back to US, only to send them back again. The NVC, on the other hand, gosh, I don't know.
What's supposed to happen is that everyone that is not considered "essential" will be furloughed. "Essential" means protecting life and/or property. So TSA would still work because they are protecting US stuff. But I did read that the SEC would keep working, even if they are shut down.
Yes. He did say it would begin on Oct 1st.
What a bummer.. i could vent and rant right now but i'll save it... so frustrating.
thanks for the info, Amhara!

I'm just wondering if anyone has any insight on what the "potential" government shut down might mean for us in the USCIS, NVC, or even Embassy/Consulate stages of the immigration process.
I just spoke to my buddy at the SSA, and he says he's on furlough (unpaid but still has to work to keep his job) until a budget is approved and/or decision on shut down is resolved.
Are the aforementioned departments affected by this?
Thanks -
Got my interview date finally, it is on October 20th ..
so much congrats!

My case is in transit. The package should be arrived at HCMC by Monday
congrats! for which country/consulate?
Wife was sent an email to login/update profile on ustraveldocs site for address confirmation for the courier service that delivers visa from the consulate. I think next step is the actual interview date. (cross my fingers)
No email from the Consulate after 2nd email to them last night. Hmmmmmmmm they were pretty good about answering when they knew our case was at the NVC.
congrats!

Unknown NVC had no explanation unless it had to do with contacting my Senator, but not heard from him so seems doubtful.
did you contact your senator by mail or email? How was your message composed and what was the mood of your message? This is good info for all of us

Unfortunately, coffee money won't help us in the boat we're in... my wife studied abroad so they had to send the DOJ #2 form up to Hanoi for verification... nothing we can do, apparently.
-
You just ask whoever you are dealing with. Something like
"How long will it take?"
"So if I pay "X", how long will it take?"
That's how it's always gone with me.
thank you. that's what we'll do!
-
I guess it all boils down to where you live.
It cost my wife $25 (500,000 VND) to get it in 3 days. Coffee money goes a long way in VN. LOL
Tien Giang.
May i ask WHO it was that you bought 'coffee' for? We're going back to fill out a new form and need to get it done sooner... who is it that we talk to and pay?

yeah looks like we're going to have to go this route too... so frustrating! >_<

It was a nightmare to me. I came back to Department of Justice to ask my police record after 1 month. Surprisingly, they told me that my request was never filed in their system. Then, They told me that if I give coffee money to her, then I can get it in 3 days. So with a 50 dolllars, I got it in 3 days instead they threw my application away like last time.
oh dang... may i ask, which province are you/were you in? We're in dong nai trying to get this thing done... i woldnt mind buying someone coffee

Does anyone know how long its supposed to take to retrieve a police certificate from Vietnam? The US website says "10 working days" but we have been waiting nearly a month. Is there something we're doing wrong?
We need it to send in with our IV Packet, but this is crazy! -
hi,
the police record depends on your country. i looked up vietnam and here's the link: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/VM.html#policerecords-6
for example, my husbands police record needs to be requested by us and it will be sent directly to the US embassy in Fiji. So i guess it all depends what your country requires. Hope this helps some.
thank you. i think we have all that figured out now. much appreciated!

It is submitted with the visa application docs
great. thanks!
-
thanks Feli... i said the current version is 3/31/15.
that expires in 8 days.
so, my question is, if i dont submit them by then, even if theyre signed and filled out, do i need to re-do my I-864 form? -
hi
no, the police certificate goes with the civil documents
the evidence of financial documents, such as taxes goes with the i864
Aleful, Thank you.
So, to clarify, the police certificate is only brought to the interview? or it's submitted with the visa application.
Can you clarify? Thanks!
-
Greetings!
Does anyone know if ill need to submit the police certificate WITH my i-864 packet, or if that's just to be taken to the interview?
Seems like Police certificate is somewhat irrelevant to an affidavit of support. Thanks!
