  1. I have a bit of a confusing issue, so I’ll try to make it as clear as possible. I’m a US citizen, and have been living/married in Egypt for 2 years(husband is Egyptian). We will apply for the I-130 in Egypt via online. The issue is, all my husbands documents, passport, marriage certificate etc have his old address on it, not the one we’ve been living at. This is due to the fact most Egyptians don’t update their address on all their documents when they move because it’s a nightmare.

When I filed my 2021 taxes I put our current address not the address that’s on all our documents. My husband received   his passport June 2022(after I filed my taxes), and it has his old address. This looks fishy as the addresses don’t match up with documents/ timeline of when we got married. I defiantly don’t want it to seem like we’re being fraudulent, but I feel it’s going to send red flags. Has anyone had a similar issue?

    well main questions i have,

    1) Will you have residency in Egypt to stay with your husband?   Reminder this process takes 18+ months (from i130 to passport with visa in hand)

    2) And if you are not in the US,  who is going to sponsor your husband (financially)?

Hi Troy! Yes, I have residency to stay in Egypt for three years. As far as who will be able to sponsor my husband, I can do it if I decide to stay in the US and wait the processing period there. Or there is the topic of a joint sponsor that I'm currently looking into as well. Perhaps immigration will also have this question if I file while in Egypt and they see my Egyptian address? I'm worried it would cause issues, so I'm trying to figure out the best place to be before I file.

  3. Hello all! Is it a bad idea to file form I-130 while overseas? Will this cause issues later on? I know I must show I have/plan to return and stay in the US, but with the long processing time, I want to stay with my husband as long as I can before I have to leave.

    My thoughts are:

    1. going back to the US and stay for a month or so, establish myself (perhaps get a lease with family member) renew my driver's license along with a few other things, then come back to Egypt and wait with my husband

    2. file I-130 while in Egypt and move back to the US after it is done being process (with the hopes it is approved) unless this is risky?

I'd love to hear others thoughts and/or experiences so I can form a better judgement on how best to proceed.  🙏

Same here! I'm applying for my wife. I have looked at timelines and haven't seen a single interview for 2022 (either that or no one has updated their timeline!). Can you please refer me to the facebook group you mentioned?

Hi there! Sorry I don't come on Visa Journey that often! The Facebook group I mentioned is only for expat women in Egypt :P Where are you in the visa process?

  5. Hi there!

Doe anyone know if Egypt does DCF any longer? I am a US citizen and married to an Egyptian. We married in Egypt and I've been living here for almost one year. I want my husband to be able to travel to the US with me. Ideally we'd like to have the ability to travel back and forth from Egypt to the US. I was reading up on the process and came across DCF which seems to take less time, however I am not sure if this is an option in Egypt?

When I became a member on VisaJourney we weren't married, so now I'm looking at a different visa process than before (K1 Visa). I'd love to hear anyone's feedback, thoughts or suggestions.

    Thank you!

  6. Hi there!

I’ve been trying to reach someone at the US Embassy in Cairo and it seems no matter what time I call, the phone just keeps ringing. If anyone has insights or tips about reaching them, I’d greatly appreciate the information!

I’m calling them directly from the number listed on their website and Facebook page 202-2797-3300.

I’m currently in the US, but will be traveling to Egypt and have questions regarding notary services.

Thanks in advance for anyone who may have dealt with them before and could offer some tips!

  7. Apologies in advance if my question is not in the correct forum, but appreciative of anyone who is able to point me in the right direction.

I am a US citizen, and planning to move to Egypt for some time and also get married to a Egyptian citizen. However, due to the current pandemic, notarial services in Egypt are currently suspended. I am curious if there is any paperwork I can/should prepare while still in the US to help the process along so it is easier when I get to Egypt?

Any insights or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

  8. Hello all!

I have just two questions regarding the sponsor for the affidavit of support. And my apologies if someone has already answered a question similar to this.

We want to make sure our sponsor is IN FACT eligible to be our sponsor, but when looking at the Poverty Guidelines for Affidavit of Support, we are not sure who all to include for "total members in household"

There are two people total, including the sponsor, but are we also suppose to include the "immigrant" (my soon to be husband) into the total members in the household? We are just thrown off because they never list a 1 under total members in the household, they always begin with a 2.

My other question is, when they take into account our sponsors income, will they also look at her mothers income? Even though our sponsor and her mother are not dependent on each other as they both receive their own income and take care of their own finances.

I hope I am being clear with my questions. (I also attached the Poverty Guidelines I am referring to)

Any clarification anyone could offer is greatly appreciated as always! ^_^

  9. Hello everyone! ^_^

My fiancee and I would like to get some input regarding a question on the G-325a form.

The question concerning employment in the last five years.

My fiancee was self employed for about a year and a half but has no record or taxes to show he was employed and the same goes for where he's currently working. Although now he is not self employed, there is nothing that legally ties him to his job (he works at his Uncles company)

So we are just curious what some of you may think. We are wondering if him not having any proof of his past and current work would be an issue if they asked for it at the interview.

He could get confirmation of working at his current job, but it is the time he was self employed we're really wondering about.

Any insights or advice some of you may have would be greatly appreciated.

We are just not sure how he should answer that particular question and are open to some suggestions and feedback :)

    Thank you everyone!

  10. Hello all!

I just got back to the US after visiting my fiancee in his country, now I'm getting the paper work ready to send my I-129F application.

One thing I cannot seem to figure out (and maybe it's right under my nose) why do I send a check/money order to USCIS? And where do I go to find more information on that such as how much I send and etc. ?

Again maybe this is very obvious, but I'm not able to figure it out.......

    Thank you!

    Christy

  11. We are just in the beginning stages of applying we have not done anything yet so once I go back to the US, I will begin the process.

So before I go back, I should get from my fiancee,

1.) G-325a form, signed and dated

2.) Letter of intent to marry, signed and dated

    3. ) Passport type photo of my fiancee

Is this all I should get from my fiancee before I leave?

  12. Thank you everyone so much for all of your advice, insight, opinions, and support!!

I of course know that having as much evidence as possible is the safest way to go, as having too much evidence is not a bad thing ;)

Just one other question, how did you all become so knowledgeable with all the terms and the whole process? What were some things you did to become so well rounded on the topic?

  13. Hello, I am a new member to this site and must say I am feeling a bit overwhelmed reading all the various posts. So I could use some help please.

My story is that my fiance (although we are not officially engaged yet) want to get married and bring my fiancee from Egypt to where I live in the US. We have known each other for 4 yrs. and have never actually met yet. And due to circumstances that are making it difficult for me to go visit him in Egypt, I did not know if there was anything at all I could do now to help start the process?

I know having proof of our relationship is major, we have plenty of emails, and conversations though various social media sites, but I know without having pictures of us together, the chance of him being approved to come to the US is very slim.

I didn't know if there was anyway I could start the process now? Even without having pictures of us together.

If anyone could shed even a little light on the topic for me, I would appreciate it beyond belief!

I am also open to any suggestions anyone may have as I am beginning to feel hopeless.

    Thank you~
