  1. In case anyone is interested—we somehow ended up with a corrected NOA1 in the mail yesterday. I got excited because I thought it was his biometrics letter, but it was a brand new notice. The format and wording is different than the first but I guess it’s basically the same. The new notice date is 3/27 but the receipt date stayed the same.

Now his second first name isn’t capitalized but I don’t know if that’s a big problem.

Just received our NOA1 today! (Our petition arrived at VSC on 3/5.) One problem though...my husband's last name is spelled wrong on it  I'll be giving them a call tomorrow to hopefully have it corrected.

In case anyone was following this...thought I doubt it lol...after we called to have it corrected and they refused to send us a new NOA1, we just got a new NOA1 in the mail yesterday with his name fixed.  The format and wording on it is different than the first so I was skeptical when I first saw it. They had told us to use the biometrics letter as proof of his correct name when they refused to send the new notice (or we could pay over $400 to file some form to fix it). In any case, I’m glad to have it. The new notice date is 3/27/18 but the receipt date stayed 3/6.

One thing that bothers me though is his second first name isn’t capitalized now. Anyone think we should call to fix this now too?

Would it be okay if she receives a tax credit for health insurance?  I can forgo Medicaid or assisted health insurance.

Yes, there are several ways she can receive assistance. Here is some information relevant to your state that may help: http://cchn.org/ckf/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Immigrants-and-the-ACA-Factsheet2.pdf

If you meet the other eligibility requirements, then there shouldn't be any issue with you getting Medicaid. As others have stated, many people do this.  Good luck!

I didn't really get a straight answer but she said she cannot continue the process without his pay stub or something similar that shows his income.

Did you not have the same issue when you apply for health insurance under a joint sponsorship?

I used to process Medicaid and tax credit applications and this also makes no sense to me. Do you and your wife live with your brother? That's the only circumstance I can think of where they'd need his income information (i.e. if you all are in the same household).

Let me also say that sometimes the people processing these applications have no idea what they are doing, and so I would recommend talking to them directly and asking them to explain it. It wouldn't hurt to be armed with some of your own research on the requirements before you talk to them so you can push back if needed.

  5. Hello all. We received my husband's NOA1 on 3/12 after filing at VSC 3/5, but his last name is misspelled on it. He called to have it corrected and they said they will not send a new one. Instead, they told him if he travels outside the country to contact Customs and Border Patrol (any idea what they meant by that??).

I called them back because this did not sound right and they (very condescendingly <_<) told me that they cannot send a new NOA1 with the correct name, but that the biometrics letter with the correct name will serve as proof of his legal status if he carries it around with the NOA1. Otherwise, they said the only option to fix it is to file form I-824 Instructions for Application for Action on an Approved Application or Petition... which costs $465. I couldn't help but laugh out loud on the phone.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, has anyone had issues traveling or proving status at the DMV, for school, etc.? Should we try to get his passport stamped to be safe?

My lawyer sent the package on 3/2, they received it on the 6th. I am filing by my own

(divorce) and my green card was expired yesterday 3/9. I don’t know what comes after this but I have to be positive, no negative thoughts ... I couldn’t file before because I needed the final divorce certificate which I got on 2/27. I am not sure if they will reject it ‘cause my green card is already expired even though my lawyer said  they got it before the green card expiration date. Still waiting ... Question, how long after they received the package is the NOA dated?

You should be fine since they received it before your card expired. Not sure about the NOA date question. Good luck.

  7. Hi everyone! We sent our packet by express mail 3/3 and it was received at the VSC on 3/5. Checks were cashed yesterday on 3/9. No NOA1 yet. I’ll update the spreadsheet as soon as I get on a laptop or desktop.

We cut it real close since his green card expires tomorrow! It makes me nervous not to have proof in hand of his status, but at least we can be fairly certain the petition was accepted.

Good luck and bon voyage to all.

I do not think it will be a problem unless you are planning on traveling now. If it arrives at VSC the 5th that is before your green card expires . The one year extension is for the  expire date of visa not date  USCIS receive petition

it shouldn't, matter the time you receive your NOA1 as long as the NVc receives your petition for ROC before green card expires

Thanks for the reply. The extension is actually for the green card though, I believe. We are not planning on traveling, but I just wanted to be safe in case he needs to provide proof of his status. We wouldn’t have proof if someone asks, so I’m still not sure what to do.

Also, I just saw that they cashed our checks, so maybe that’s a good sign that the petition was accepted?

  9. Hello all. I apologize ahead of time as I know this is probably a very common question; however, I've seen a lot of conflicting information.

Can anyone tell me definitively if W-2s must be submitted along with tax returns? My dad is the joint sponsor and we both have copies of our tax returns printed online. I have an employment letter and pay stubs and he has pay stubs and bank deposits. This is what we submitted for the k-1 interview. Do we need anything else like the W-2s?

  10. Hello all,

Where are you since?you are very quiet.

I had my interview on August 25 .I got approved.I thank God.

I received my visa in hand on september 3(I went pick up).

you know, having a lot of proof of relationship doesn't seem desperate at all.I went there with more than 600 page of viber, more than 200 page of whatsapp, more than 200 pages of emails , money gram receipts and 89 pictures.p

please don't stay quiet like that.

    Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

What kinds of questions did they ask? My fiance did his medical today and his interview is in one month.

  11. I'm sorry to hear that.

I mentioned in my email about our wait being longer, but I don't expect them to care. They may contact us if someone cancels, I think. Cameroonians aren't good with appointments and being on time, so I'm hoping that'll work to our advantage. I mostly just feel numb.

i got mine on Sept 15th.. and they said that because of the holidays it was the best they could do.

I totally understand the disappointment... i felt that way too.

Especially because we all have been on hold a year for this.

The problem is that the TSC is so behind compared to the other SCs and they should have done something in order to not make people wait that long.

  12. No worries, I googled it and found a VJ entry with the following info:

    dhl.com/en/express/tracking/shippers_reference.html

Type in shippers reference: example: EXP 06 FEB 2015A (change it to the date you know they sent it from NVC to your respective consulate).

Date range for shipment-From: (do it a couple days before)

Date range for shipment-To: (can leave it as today's date)

and then country, select your country.

Thank you so much! What a great trick. Mine definitely arrived at the embassy July 20 even though they said it's not there yet... what to do now?

It said it shipped from Boston. Does that sounds right?
