  1. Interview for step-daughter and wife is coming up. I have all but a couple items of the list of docs we are supposed to bring. We have lost one of the I-94 cards they recieved when entering the US but have copies of it. Also, It asks for the US citizens birth cert. and proof of US citizenship. I have my US passport but not the birth cert.

Does anyone think not having the original I-94 or my birth cert will be a problem at the interview?

  2. USCIS website says my wife's employment authorization application was approved and a notice sent out today. Does the notice come with a card or something that she can show to a future employer, or do we have to wait further for that? That is, when could she start work? Thanks!

"Application Type: I765, APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION

    Current Status: Approval notice sent.

On July 31, 2008, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this

I765 APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION. Please follow any

instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice,

    call customer service."

  3. "Total is $2685." - that's what I originally sent, but had one check for both I-485 apps (1690). I had included a detailed cover letter, too.

    "I 485 for daughter including biometrics $680"

The operator told me only 600 for my daughter. Apparrently, biometrics is not charged for kids, and it should be one check for 1610. for the 2 applicants. But I will call again to verify the 600 amount and try to make an infopass.

  4. After having sent AOS package for wife and step-daughter over 1 1/2 mo ago, they sent everything back to me with reject notices for incorrect check amounts.

It looks like they made a mistake and thought my step-daughter should pay full for I-485 when in fact she is filing with mother and should pay less(according to I-485 instructions).

I recieved the following reject notices:

    I-485 for wife - says to pay $930 + $80

    I-485 for step-daughter- says to pay $930 + $80

    I-824(for lost I-130 NOA2) - says to pay 340

    I-130(for daughter) - says to pay 355

I-765(employement) - says to pay 340 unless filing with I-485

    I-131 (travel) - pay 305 unless filing with I-485

    I-131 (travel) - pay 305 unless filing with I-485

I had originally sent 3 checks: 355, 340, and 1,690 (for the two I-485 apps). According to the notices it looks like they want me to send 4 checks: 355, 340, 1010, and 1010.

I am not sure though. I don't care if they charge me too much I just don't want to wait another 2 mo only to have everything sent back again.

    Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  5. I am about to send off AOS applications for wife and step-daughter and would like to verify the fees.

I am sending 2 checks: one for the two I-485 applications and one for my step daughter's I-130

    Check 1 - $2,640

    I-485 + Biometrics for mother: 1010

    I-485 + Bio for step-daughter: 680

    I-131 (2 for travel): 610

    I-175 Employment Auth 340

    I-824 (because we lost NOA2) 340

    Check 2 - I-130 for step-daughter: 355

I think that it, but I am not sure if payment for I-175 is needed if filing along with I-485. Also, not sure if seperate checks are needed

    for I-824,I-131?

    Thanks for your comments!

  6. If you plan on leaving the country for more than one year, then apply for a re-entry permit *before* you leave the US. You must maintain residency in the US to keep your green card. If you travel to the US at least once a year you may be able to keep the green card, but if you are not planning to return for several years you will lose it. When entering the US on a green card, US immigration specifically asks how long you were out of the country, and may not let you in if its more than a year. Citizenship is based on how long you were physically in the US. You must list all time you spent outside the country on the application.
