  1. Hello guys,

I am adjusting status from my K1 visa, still waiting for permission to work and I am a photographer and wanted to build a new website here in the US and thought about taking some photos for free for it. I wont be accepting any paid requests or even put my services as available before getting the permission to work. However I am concerned if I can take the free photos, would that be considered a work? Especially because I would ask the models to sign an agreement (in which I state its a free service) for copyrights and image use reasons.

    Thanks a lot!

  2. My mom asked for her tourist visa a week before I came to the US on a K1 visa. She told the consul about it and that I was her only child, and she was easily approved. However, she took several documents with her to the interview, like her marriage certificate, bank statements, letter from her and my dad`s employer, documents showing she owns properties in Brazil, etc - the consul did not ask to see any of the documents, but he could see she had a bunch with her.

So, when your mom reapplies, tell her to bring every single paper she has to prove her ties with Brazil and thing will be fine :)

And someone posted that Brazilians forget to go back home - some do forget to go back and some come here, visit, spend a lot of money and leave. So please, do not generalize!

  3. Hello,

I am currently adjusting status from my K1 visa, however I am already thinking about taxes. My parents want to donate me two houses in my home country, Brazil, in the next few months, and I wonder if I will need to pay taxes here in the USA related to it. I still don't have a green card, but I assume that I will probably receive it around the same time my parents will donate me the houses (they cant do it earlier, due to Brazilian bureaucracy).

If some Brazilian read this: Do you think filling the Declaracao de Saida Definitiva do Pais will make a difference on the scenario?

    Thanks a lot :)

  4. Hey guys,

I am adjusting status from my K1 visa and my husband and I decided to rent our house for 2 days on airbnb during an event thats gonna happen in our city and since I already had an account on airbnb, I posted the advertising on my profile (which has my information like passport data) and we rented it.

    Now, here are my questions:

    1) Do I have a US Tax Payer Identification? I tried looking for it on the web and here and I got really confused.

    2) Is the activity of renting a house for 2 days considered work? I still don't have my permition to work.

Thank you so much guys :)

  5. Hello guys,

I`ve checked some old topics about the certified copy of the marriage certificate and I still dont know exactly what to do...

I got married at the NYC City Hall and I received one Marriage Certificate thats says "Certified this date at the City Clerk`s Office", so should I send this original (or ask for another original) to USCIS or just a regular copy of this document?

And thanks to all members from VJ, this is a really great help during all immigration process.

  6. Hello,

I need help about the SSN, I need to provide the original or a certified copy of my birth certificate, however I just brought the original with me and I also need this for the AOS. So does someone knows if they just wanna see the birth certificate or if they will retain it with them? Cause if they retain it with them I dont know how I will do for the AOS...

Also, does someone knows if I can use my ID issued in my country to get the SSN?

    Thanks a lot :)

  7. To be honest I have the same thought as Apple21, however, I think you have real chances if you show that you and your stepfather have a real relationship, I had my k1 visa interview last week, they are very good people and just wanna check your intentions. Having him with you at the interview will help a lot!

I would not mention the law to the consular officer, first, because he is supposed to know it and second because, in my very own opinion, you can sound desperate, as long as I think a person with good intentions dont even need to tell them "hey i have the right" (w/ exceptions, of course).

  8. Hello guys,

Im a fiance of an american citizen and I had my K1 visa approved last week. Now I want my mother to apply for a tourist visa, so she can visit me in the US.

Im still in Brazil and I will only travel at the end of the month and I will try to schedule her interview before my travel, so I dont know what she should answer on "Do you have any immediate relatives, not including parents, in the United States?".

    Thank you all :)

  9. Hello guys,

My K1 visa was approved yesterday, yay :D

Now we are already thinking about the next steps and filling the I-864 Form, we have a question about the Federal Tax Return.

My fiance only started working in august/2014, before he was in college, so we don't have 3 years of tax return information and now we don't know what to answer on item #13.

Does someone know what to do?

    Thank you so much :)
