  1. 3 years ago, I was in the same situation. My now wife and now son had no problem being approved for K-1/K2 visa and coming to the USA.  The key element is that the birth certificate (BC) can not say that the child's parents were married. If the BC says the child's parents were married, (regardless if they were married), you will need the permission of the parent to take the child out of the country.

Adopting my son was another story as we had to track down his biological father...

    Good Luck.

  2. My fiance, son and I went on a Wednesday morning (April 1) and she was done in about 3 hours. Her son (K-2) was another story!! I thought I read that they limit the number of people that can be seen each day to 300. Not sure if that would be factor in arriving at 1 PM.

  3. Let me measure a box when I get home so you know the dimemsons of "regular" sized balikbayan box and you can look in a local store. However, be careful as not all boxes are the same. You really need a sturdy box for airline travel.

Food items, household goods and clothing is what fills my boxes.

  4. You can get the box at any of the shippers. LBC will sell you a box ($5 I think) and when you ship your box with them, they will give you another box. You can get a list of non-allowable items as well at the shipper. Generally, you can not ship guns, ammo, explosives, acids etc.

  5. Not sure of the reason this was required., K-2 is a normal ,active 8 year year old boy. No divorce, no history of mental health issues. We were notiifed of this requirement when we first arrived at St. Lukes so it was not a patient specific requirment as they had not examined the kid yet.

  6. Completed our medical examinations for K-1 and K-2 last week in Manila. Everything went as planed except that my finacee's son (K-2) had to have a psychological evaluation completed. This was done at a office in Quezon City that contracts with St. Lukes. Cost was 2000 peso. The evaulation is completed a week later and mailed to St. Lukes. St. Lukes indicated they would forward the evaluation to the Embassy.

I only mention it here because I don't recall seeing anything in any of the "guides" regarding a psychogical evalution for a child.

    Thanks

  7. Thank you for the responses.

I planning on being with my finacee and her son when she goes for her interview. We want to play tourist for a couple of weeks around manila in between the medical and the interview.

She is coming from Bohol and and I will be coming from California.

Given that I want to find a condo and buy airline tickets as soon as possible, can anyone give me an idea of how fast the itnerviews fill up once the calender opens up?

    thanks

  8. Sorry this is not in the Philippines' portal but for the life of me I can not figure out how to post a topic there! :ranting:

Anyway, Tried to schedule an interview on-line today with the US Embassy in Manila but it appeared that they were only accepting appointments up through the end of February . I am looking to have an appt. in mid April. Do they only allowed appointments to be scheduled 45 days out? Will I get different results if I call?

    thanks

  9. I saw a post on here recently that said ST. Lukes was providing the medical examination documentation to the applicant when the medical exam was completed. The posted indicated that the old process was for St. Lukes to send the medical documents to the Embassy. The old process required the applicant to wait 7-10 days before going for an interview to ensure the medical documentation arrived at the embassy.

If the process has changed, that the applicant now hand carries the required medical documentation, does that mean there is no longer a need to wait 7-10 days between the physical exam and the interview?

Thanks in advance for your responses.
