  1. My wife who currently lives in Japan has no contact with the father of her child. She never did. He disappeared from her life and never provided any support. She holds full custody for her child and after our marriage I am a step-father (no adoption).

We are failing DS-260 for getting the CR-1 visa and thinking about any possible documents that may be required during interview. We cannot find any information if such a consent is required or not. We receive mixed information, some say you need it the others you do not. Does anyone here have any personal experience in the matter.

    T & K

If your wife has full custody then there's no other paperworks needed from the father ( based on my experience )

  2. My CEAC status now says "ready". Does that mean I can expect mail (Packet 3) from the Tokyo embassy soon? Also can I use the NOA2 or letter from NVC to get my police certificate in Kanagawa?

You can get police certificate and medical examination with your CASE NUMBER.

  3. Hello:

My fiancé received Packet 3 from the Tokyo Embassy. There was no information about filling out the DS-160 or scheduling an interview.

The letter she received asked her to mail in the following documents:

    1. Birth Certificate Original

    2. Original Certificate of Family Relationship

    3. Original of any Previous Passport

    4. Copy of Residence Card (She is from South Korea but has a Permanent Residence Card for Japan)

    5. Original Juminho. (No idea what that is but my fiancé says she has it)

    6. Completed Ds-230 Part 1

    7. Completed DS-157 (I thought DS-160 replaced this but they are asking for it)

    8. Copy of her present passport biographical page

    9. 2 Photos.

I have the following questions if anyone knows:

    1. How long will it take to get to the next step?

    2. What is the next step? (I was expecting that she would be asked to fill out the DS-160 online but the letter she received didn't mention anything about that or scheduling an interview)

    3. How will they contact her about scheduling an interview?

    4. There was no mention about getting Japanese Police Certificate. Will they send instructions for that?

    Thanks

    Eric

Juminhyo is the written form of certificate of residency which she can gets from her local municipal office.

After completing DS-157 and pay the visa fee, she can schedule her interview. In filing visa application, there are instructions and requirements in completing the forms.

  4. Hi: I have good news. My fiancé's mother's name is listed on her family registry. The Korean Embassy in Japan helped her get all her identifying documents. There were many of them, including an Identification Certificate, Adoption Certificate (which was basically blank because it doesn't apply), Family Relation Certificate, Police Certificate, etc. I was a little confused about which documents were what. My fiancé re-sent all of them to me with explanations and her so called "Family Relation Certificate" lists her mother. I feel a little foolish but was happy to see that the documents were in order.

That's great! Youre getting closer to be together soon! Good luck!

  5. My fiancé is from South Korea. She has lived in Japan for 30 years. I just received the translation of her family register (Korean Equivalent of Birth Certificate) and her mother's name is not listed. Her mother abandoned the family when my fiancé was only a few months old, so when her father filled out the notification of her birth he didn't list her mother. My fiancé's father has died and no one knows the whereabouts of her mother.

The Tokyo Embassy website says that the Birth Certificate must list the names of both parents.

    Does anyone have any suggestions.

    Thanks.

If your fiancé didn't list her mother 's name on any of her paperworks ( koseki touhon, I-129f etc. ), I think she'll be ok..

  6. I know that part. I was just wondering if there were any non-Japanese residents who got their fingerprints done at the police station to their birth country for processing. Practically speaking I can't fly home just to get that done so everything will be processed from Japan. I've contacted the Jamaican embassy in Tokyo so I'll see what can be done.

I also see on the U.S. embassy website where they say I can come in to do the fingerprinting there so I'll just do that and report my experience in case any one else is in the same situation. Thanks!

I am a non-Japanese and was a resident for 15 years in Japan. I had my fingerprints done at my birth country's embassy in Tokyo and personally sent the paperwork to my family there to process it and sent back to me the complete police certificate.

Would be best to check your consular office.

    Good luck to your journey

  7. Good evening fellow Japan-ers,

My husband is driving me crazy. I told him we needed his birth certificate, so he asked city hall for it, and they said "Humm, that is only given out in really really important legal matters, like court, how about your Koseki Touhon?" To which he was like "Sure! Souds good."

I JUST looked at it, and it only has OUR names on it. With of course his DOB, parents names etc in his information area, but still.

I feel like I have read 100s of times that the Koseki Touhon isn't what is needed. Please please tell me I am wrong and I don't have to bash my head against the cement wall that is the stubborness of my beloved spouse.

Koseki touhon is a family registry documents, where details on birth, divorce or death of all family members are written.

Koseki shouhon is an individual's registry record. It is an extraction from koseki touhon.

I submitted my son's koseki shouhon as his birth certificate and we didn't get any problems with it.

    Good luck on your journey.

  8. Jamaica - I guess I should've said "birth country" lol. Yes I will get the certificate from the police station in Japan but I also need one from Jamaica as well. In order to get that done I need a set of fingerprints.

Japanese certificates are only within Japan.

You have to complete the requirements from your home country , if they can't do that your home country's consulate/embassy office.

  9. Ok so currently I'm working on getting the police certificate from my home country. My home country requires a copy of my fingerprints: can I get this done at the Japanese police station?

Where is your "home country" ?

If you are living in Japan , you can get police certificate from where you are presently living.

  10. Hello Maria4Garrett:

Thank you so much for your quick response.

I want to mention that you have responded to other questions of mine earlier and each answer has been super helpful. Over the summer I was confused about how to respond to an RFE regarding proof of Japanese Kyogi Rikon divorce. You told me to send the Certificate of Acceptance document, which I did, and our case was approved by the Texas Service Center 3 weeks later. I am very grateful for your always helpful assistance. You are one of the people who make VisaJourney so special!!!

I am very glad to know I can help ;). I am only sharing from my own experiences:) and I'll try to share as much as I could ;). Good luck on your journey! I know how drastic and stressful the processing but I'm sure you both can make it !!

  12. Another question: are we required to send in previous expired passports with Packet 4? I'm seeing where a poster was asked to send in her expired passports but I'm wondering if that's just a special case? I don't have my expired passports here with me and I'm not sure if I know where they are lol.

It's not a requirement... You can send in if you still have it.. I didn't send mine and it was fine...

  13. This week is truly a great one we had. After checking status online, got the welcome letter the same day then green cards arrived in after 3 days! My husband and I are overwhelmed and very happy. Just in time to keep myself away from stress on my 2nd trimester, for awhile!

The guidelines and threads from I-129F to AOS on this site helped us a lot! Thank you Visa Journey and to all the generous members who never stop to help, sharing their experiences and knowledge, the quickest time they can!

Good luck to all other members. Keep reading on Visa Journey and you'll learn a lot! ( and please help if you can ?)

  14. Congrats, I see your adjust for K1, K2, did you get the same notice for your child as well, or only for one case?

Cause I just recently got my son's GC, nothing for me so far....

Yes.. We both have the same letter ... I wonder why yours didn't come with your son.. I'm sorry

Congrats!!! Enjoy your 1 year and 9 months before you start this process again =)

Thank you! I'll breath for a little longer now before merging into another journey ;)

  15. Congrats you are done with aos. Wait for letter. Green card should be there soon. One more hurdle out of the way.

Thank you! I have received the welcome letter today and says its approved! Whew! What a stressing journey :)

    ~Moved from Fam.-based AOS to Fam.-based AOS Progress Forum~

Thank you! I know this is just a another part done and there's more journeys to follow ;)

  16. check on our status today ( AOS from K1 and K2 ). It says: On October 22,2015, we registered your permanent resident status and mailed you a Welcome Notice for Receipt Number MSxxxxxx. Please follow the instructions in the notice. Your new Permanent resident card should arrive by December xx, 2015, after this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later.

Can anyone help me understand this? Thank you in advance.
