I am new to this great forum and wealth of information here, and it is nice to finally join! I have 2 questions, I am a US citizen that wants to go and visit my girlfriend who lives in Vietnam at the end of May or first part of June 2015. How soon or how far in advance should I apply for a tourist visa to Vietnam? The reason why I will not be able to travel until next summer is because I do not have the vacation or sick time available to me to take off from my job to travel. Financially I am good to go.
My girfriend and I have also discussed the possiblity of her coming to visit me here in the US since I am not able to travel anytime soon. My girlfriend tells me that it would be very difficult for her to obtain a visa to come visit me here in the US because the Vietnamese goverment requires that a visa applicant with intentions on traveling to the US must have a certain amount of money in their bank account when they file for a tourist visa to the US. Is this true or not?
I would like to know if anyone has heard such a thing or if what she is saying is true? My girlfriend and I met online back in May of this year, we both have a whole bunch in common, we get along great, and I think she would be a great wife. This is my first online relationship so I am still trying to figure out how the immigration stuff works.
