  1. Hello,

I have been searching Visa Journey for an answer on this but I have seen so many different answers.

We are landing at a POE on July 14 in Maine. We have recently secured an apartment that is at a different address from what we originally put on all of our forms.

Just want to know how to change the address so we can guarantee the Green card is delivered to our new place.

If someone could like me to a good thread that covers this that would be great.

  2. Hello,

I have the paper work from Toyota for import. No issues there. Car is Paid off.

I am planning on importing the car on july 14 and coming back to canada until we move permanently on september 1.

If I import it in july, do i lose my insurance that I have on it? I was planning on cancelling the insurance in september when we finally move.

  3. Hey Guys,

Wondering if someone could point me to the right forum that obtaining the Green card and SSN. I know this is probably a popular topic so I'm sure there are detailed instructions.

My wife and I are going to a POE in Maine on July 14. We are going to get business done then, then come back to nova scotia and move permanently with car september 1.

I know the green card takes a few weeks to get but i'm wondering where and how to apply for the Social Security Number. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

    Thanks

  4. Very good information.

Do you know who I may be able to contact about the health coverage? We both work jobs under a contract and the end of the contract happened to coincide with this process finishing up. We both are out of work contracts in September but the six months is up in august.

Would we lose health coverage from our work after going through the POE in the next few weeks?

  5. Thanks for the info again.

We will still have health insurance through our jobs so I don't think losing provincial health care will be an issue.

Am I right in assuming this?

Also should I do everything at once or do I need to get to a POE within a certain year or 6 months?

  6. Hey Guys. Thanks for the quick reaponse! It is a CR-1 visa for my wife. We are driving down and probably going through Houlton, Me. We have an uncle that lives in Houlten that we always make a visit to.

So we don't need to make an appointment?

We are planning on going down to Madsachusetts for a weekend to go to a Red Sox game and take care of a few things at our apartment.

Later in the summer, probably around August, we are going to officially move. So it's better to register the car then?

  7. Hey Guys,

Can someone direct me to a thread about dealing with going through the POE. I am certain there are threads on this that can answer my question So if someone would be nice enough to direct me there that would be awesome.

Received passport with visa and sealed envelope. My wife and I need to head to Maine (closest port of entry). Just wondering what to expect. We are not moving down there quite yet but we want to get this done and out of the way.

So we just bring our passports and sealed envelope? Does it matter what time of the day we go through? Is an appointment necessary?

Also Is it worth importing the car now or should we wait until we are going to stay down there permanently?

2011 Toyota Matrix, any tips and what do we need.

    Thanks!

  8. Hello,

I just received two checklists. Only submitted our AOS and IV packages last week.

    1) First one was for my wife's police certificate. We got it done at the Halifax Regional Police Station in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I sent it in. They want it again I guess. When we submitted (e-mailed) it the first time it was not in color to save on PDF space in the e-mail. Should I just send it in color now?

    2) I need to provide an IRS Transcript (wont be an issue to get)

The only question I have is should I send these both at the same time like I did with the whole AOS and IV packages?

I sent them in two different e-mails but at the same time.

Should I do this again? I already scanned the police report again in color and have that ready to send. The tax transcript however may take a week or so because of the time it takes to be sent out.

    Thanks guys!

  9. Hello guys,

Filing from Canada wife is Canadian, I am USC.

Just wondering about the supporting documents I will need to send in for the i-864.

We have a joint sponsor and have all the financial documents ready to go.

I sent in a boatload of these documents (Marriage License, Passport copies, proof that we have lived together for 7 plus years, photos confirming this, references and so on).

What new supporting documents do I need to send? Do I send everything I already sent again?

Also does my wife need medical and police record check to me completed for this as well?

Not much in the way of instructions for this in the mail.

Can you guys help me out or link to another post that may answer some questions?

    Thanks

  10. Hey guys,

Canadian Wife/US Husband living in canada.

Just got my letter in the mail that my wifes application has been approved and moved to the NVC in new hampshire.

I got a check list with what needs to go with the i-864 for the petitioner. I am having a family friend fill out the AOS to help us get in. I will forward all the information to them to make sure everything is in line.

There is another checklist there with supporting documents and such. Most of that I have already sent in with my I-130 package. Am I to send this information in again? I also see there is something for prison documents? Does my wife need to have a background check done? What about a medical examination? Will I find this out at the interview?

If anyone can answer this or link me to another thread with any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  11. I feel like i'm blind. I have the entire i-130 package filled out, peer checked 300-400 times between my wife and I. We have it signed sealed and she asked me "ok where do we send it".

I have no idea. I have been searching for the exact address to send it. I have found 2 different Chicago addresses.

We are filing from Canada, I am the USC, and my wife is the Canuck.

    WHERE DO I SEND IT.

I'm trying to play it cool like i know, but the jig is up.

    Thanks Guys

  12. Hello,

My wife and I live in Canada, she is a Canadian citizen and I am a US citizen. I-130 is sent off. Since I have not worked in the US for a few years now since living abroad, I do not have money in $USD. My uncle has offered to file a I-864 jointly with me. A very close family friend has also offered assistance.

I would rather use the family friend for he is still working at the time and my uncle (who is very wealthy) has recently retired.

Can family friends jointly file with me or does it have to be a relative? Can anyone jointly sponsor with me as long as they meet the 125% above poverty requirements?

    Thanks,

    Mike

  13. Hello Guys,

Awesome site, a lot of info covored and a bit overwhelming, but from reading other topics there are some truly great helpful people here. Keep it up!

Now let's see if you guys can help me and my lovely canadian wife out.

I am a US citizen and my wife is Canadian. My wife and I got married this summer and we have been living in halifax Nova Scotia Canada for 5 years now. I moved up here for school and met her 8 years ago and decided to move up here perminantly 5 years ago. We are both in our late 20's.

She recently decided she wants to move to the U.S. (the only reason I moved up to Canada was to bring her back) and we really have no idea where to start. I've seen that we need to file a i-130 at some point. I just really would like some advice on this maybe if someone could direct me to another thread where this is covored or just spill your guts to me under this thread.

Also some background. I am a funeral director/ embalmer and she is a paralegal. I am a perminant resident of Canada and a U.S. citizen and my wife is just a plain old lovely Canadian citizen. We both have Bachelors of Arts degrees and secondary degrees. My parents are both deceased and I have 3 brothers and a sister living in Boston. should we use one of their addresses as a landing point before we are able to secure an apartment? What are the financial required to sponsor someone? We both have a canadian income but no US one at the moment.
