  1. normally you can go about two weeks after entering to get Social Security Card. Problem is many people on here have gone to Social Security Office and have had some issues…you may want to print this out before you go

    Here is the guide

Thank you for the advice. But I have been reading conflicting reports. Some people have gotten SSN two days or so after arrival as the I94 is now electronic. So I wanted to hear from a few who have had this experience.

Also, if my fiance does change her surname after marriage (which we planned close to her POE), can she apply for SSN soon after marriage on her 1) maiden name or 2) married name?

  2. I will take that into consideration. I guess that will delay our marriage some then because of the 2-week thing people talk about. Thanks for your response.

I believe that with the electronic I-94, the 2-week wait is no longer needed. Good luck.

I came to two possible conclusions and wanted to ask if these are viable:

    1) So, it is possible to keep her maiden name on the marriage certificate and all forms. And after the whole process (up to GC) is over, then change it. So this way we can get married, then apply for SSN, without delay?

    2) Or the other way, apply for SSN, next day get married, apply for EAD and AOS (and write pending on SSN blank), then when SSN arrives change to married name.
