  1. Visa status showed as 'Issued' on February 25. Emailed to check on status on Feb 27 and consulate responded "Your visa should be ready for pick up at the Loomis location you choose".

No email from Loomis. Have called Loomis and CSC and there is no record yet of the visa being shipped.

What explains this limbo where neither know the status of the package's shipment?

  2. My interview is this coming Tuesday. Pending successful outcome, I'm going to ask if I can activate my visa when I go to the airport (YYZ) and then return to Canada to terminate my employment and move to the US. We plan first on flying down to our intended destination to view apartments and sign a lease, and then return to Canada to finish packing and move. We are using a moving company and they require a copy of my activated visa in my passport to ship my stuff. I'm hoping that's ok. I've sent an email to CBP asking if I can proceed that way, but they take 2 to 3 weeks to answer emails and they have limited call hours. FIngers crossed.

  3. It seems that NVC has picked up the pace somewhat. Praying for all of you here, that you have some good news soon. I know how frustrating this process is. I have been one of the "lucky" ones who hasn't run into any bumps in the road. My heart goes out to all who end up bogged down in the process due to tiny mistakes and "lost" paperwork. It is so unfair.

I am on hold now with NVC. I remain skeptical until I hear them confirm that my case is complete. Will update as soon as they talk to me :)

It will be interesting to see if they give us the same interview date!

  4. Grumpy NVC rep confirmed case was completed on Dec 17. So 44 days from checklist scan date of Nov 3 to Dec 17. (Interestingly she said AOS Fee status change to Paid from NA doesn't indicate anything. Nonsense, of course. I wished her happy holidays all the same).

Now waiting for interview confirmation at Montreal.

Only last night before bed we were despairing of the wait and the possibility of another checklist. Both my American spouse and I are filing from abroad and he had to re-establish domicile. The process is exhausting. This good news has given us renewed energy.

Best of luck to all couples still waiting for action.

  5. Hi! I had the same issue...I reported what I made living in Japan and they wanted the specific number from Box 22 on my 1040...which was 0 for one year and $-13. for another year. Silly if you ask me! Income earned in another country should certainly count but whatever. An on top of that they have my taxes in from of them so an addendum made electronically would have made better sense here for me but they needed me to fill out the form again and re-mail it. What a process, right! OK, rant over;)

So, i reported exactly what was in those boxes. If the sponsor doesn't work in the states I assume you will have to go by assets or get a co-sponsor. For us, we are going by assets. I just got a job last week but we sent all of our stuff off before that happened so we are hoping for the best.

    Best of luck to you!

Thanks Lukadia! I appreciate your input.

We do have some other US based Business Income that we can claim.

    So fingers crossed.

    Good luck to you too.

  6. My spouse is the USC and has lived in Canada with me for the past 7 years.

We just received an AOS checklist asking to submit GROSS income on a new AOS. This was the only item that came up on the checklist.

When he filed the AOS, he listed all of the many and concrete ways he has been re-establishing domicile in the US since we began the visa process. His earnings are mostly in Canada and are taxed here and his 2013 1040 shows a negative gross income.

Will the fact that he was earning pay in Canada but is re-establishing domicile in the US be sufficient once we re-file the I-864 reporting the negative gross income?

    Thanks very much

  7. Good morning,

We too have just had a communication this morning from the NVC by email, which is funny because I only called them last night (and learned nothing from the person who read through their script robotically).

    We received an AOS CHECKLIST:

My husband has to provide the GROSS income and fill out a new I-864. He has been living in Canada with me for the past 7 years, but has filed US returns. His most recent return shows a negative GROSS income.

My question is: how do we deal with a negative GROSS income reported? Have others come across this or something similar?

We have provided a lot of information and concrete steps he has taken to re-establish domicile in the US. Will this work in our favour?

    Have others experienced this?

    Many thanks!
