As far as the medical goes, my husband went to the American Medical Center, paid, and set his appt for the next Monday since there was a holiday and the exam has to be done over 3 consecutive days.
Monday was the xrays and then he had to go back Wednesday for the physical.
They check for communicable diseases like TB, HIV, etc., and mental health issues/drug addiction, I think.

Hi, my husband and stepkids just had their medical exams. The kids got some vaccines, but my husband was told that he didn't need any...but he doesn't even have a vaccination record.
What does this mean? He was told by the assistant that if there is some problem the doctor won't give vaccinations, but was assured that there was no issue with his results... What is everyone else's experience? Did you have to get vaccines or no??

My husband is about to do his medical monday...they told him it is a 72 hour process. They for sure draw blood and give any missing vaccinations. I'll update once he goes and tells me about it

Yes, if you were previously married then you must show proof of termination of that marriage when filing IR-1/CR-1. I believe you should have sent it in with your I-130 since you have to list previous marriages on the G-325a's.

Thanks!! He is heading up there monday ill tell him to go here thanks so much!!
Good luck to you two! My husband will be going soon as well

I'm so happy it all worked out for you! Have a safe flight and good luck

Congressional inquiry will not do anything can't make them look at your case or find lost items. I ave seen too many times people post here lost items.
You have to keep calling NVC and speak to a supervisor until its done. be ready to resubmit "lost documents" But hopefully they will review and ts all there. Seems they always mysteriously find it.
Did you happen to resend all they say was missing or you are just waiting Monday call first thing and get to a supervisor ad find out about each case remind them you are an expedite and you need case complete for now. Time to put your foot down.
How do I get to a supervisor?? I've called three times and asked for a supervisor. Each time the operator disappears for a minute and then either tells me that no supervisor is available or speaks with the supervisor and comes back to tell me what they said...
Although, the last operator I spoke with was very kind and empathetic...seemed like the supervisor he spoke with would be on top of it??
I'll call again on Monday on my way to work.

On 9/16 I submitted AOS and supporting doc packets to NVC for my husband and stepkids.
9/21 embassy approved expedite (when cases are documentarily complete).
9/28 sent in updated i-864 for joint sponsor (previously submitted form had an error).
10/4 all DS-260s are complete.
Last week I got a checklist for my stepdaughter, but the NVC operator told me to ignore it as it's probably a false checklist. It stated they were missing a significant portion of the documentation (birth certificate, passport, my I-864...)
Earlier this week I noticed 3 N/A's on my stepson's case
and was eagerly awaiting the other two cases to do the same...
Today when I called NVC the operator informed me that my husband's case is also missing his birth certificate, passport, my I-864, etc, although I got no email for it... It seems they have lost two of the three packets I sent in on 9/16...The operator has put the cases under supervisor review, but said she can't give me a time frame except that it can take up to around 30-40 days.
What else can I do??? Would a congressional inquiry help to get the supervisor on this faster? Despite the fact that an expedite has been granted, NVC doesn't really care.

I am soooo soooo happy for you
Congratulations and good luck in making your lives together in the US!

When it's busy just hang up the phone and call again.
You may have to call, hang up, and call again 10-20 times, but eventually you will here a different message and you will be on hold.
You will wait on hold for 20-40 minutes. THEN you will reach a representative! Good luck!

Hi!
1. yes
2. I think this is just a statement from you stating your plans to live in the US and showing what steps you've taken towards that (as well as the evidence you mentioned)
3. yes
4. Did you have a co-sponsor? If not then it doesn't apply. This would be if you lived with your sister and she was your co-sponsor you'd need her birth certificate, for example.
5. your US birth certificate or US passport
6. I think not necessary (proves domicile?)
7. ALL documents submitted are photocopies
Hope someone else chimes in, too, but I think that's right

I don't think it will effect his medical unless he is addicted to it n found in his blood. But I doubt that..
Chat is only known in Ethio n some Arab countries so u ain't gonna find any definition on ur research. Good luck tho
Yeah, maybe not.
He uses it from time to time because in Afar Region it's the only way to get some relief on those hot
afternoons - even I was participating when I lived there.
In any case, I told him just to stop. Better to be sure than risk it!

I've done a search of the forums and found nothing, but there may be variations in spelling as well....
I've told my husband not to touch anymore khat till after the interview, but it is widely used in his part of the country.
It is much milder and less addictive than pot even, so I would think it isn't a huge deal. And I don't think it's easy to get in the US anyway, since it should be fresh. But just want to know what to expect, if this will be an issue...
-
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knew whether use of the local stimulant, khat, is a problem as far as the medical exam and visa interview in Addis Ababa?
My husband occasionally uses khat as it's a big part of the social life in Afar Region, where an overwhelming majority of people use it daily.
It's legal in Ethiopia, but illegal in US, so I want to be careful!
Thank you for any feedback!

Are you sure that it would be so horrible? Grandma would help with the house, children, etc.
It just seems very insensitive because in many cultures (including your fiancees) the elderly are taken care of and live with their adult children. Your fiancee would likely be more comfortable with her mom close. However, I wouldn't worry about it if she already agreed not to.
But I would advise you keep an open mind and be willing to compromise. Especially if you plan to have children she will likely want her mother to come for a while to help her out.

Yes I tried!! But they ain't replying back ..idk if I'm emailin the wrong adress tho ... ?
I think the IV address takes a long time to reply - at least when I emailed a question a few months ago it took them around 6 weeks or more to reply :/
If possible, you should go and see if you can get an answer (and maybe the packet) in person
-
No not yet ! Waitin for my packet 3?. How do ik then? I called one of the required panel physicans n they explained me everything . He also can talk to em so they make him vaccination record . That's what I get told.....
Good luck with your medical and interview
-
The medical is like 1808 etb which is (88$). But I have no idea how much will it cost him to get vaccinations !
Thank you, Heley
Did you have all your vaccinations done beforehand at a clinic in Addis? Or did you just have a childhood vaccination record? We asked one of the panel physicians if we should take care of any vaccines before the medical, but they said not to...
-
Hi, everyone.
Does anyone know what the cost of medical is now in Addis Ababa including all vaccinations?
And which vaccinations are required because I know that not all of them are available in the country...
My husband has no vaccination record
I'm not sure how much money I should send him to cover everything.
Any help/advice from Ethiopia members is appreciated!

We got our NOA 2 sept 10, and husband called NVC last night, they said we need to wait 30 days
I waited almost 6 weeks
hope they get it soon!
-
Ha!
I called NVC again...
I got the SAME operator. I read the I-864 instructions to her and so this time she put me on hold to ask someone... Now she says that my sponsor's husband does not need to fill an i-864a and she needs to only put her income on her I-864...
-
Thanks for your help
I just talked to NVC and they said that my joint sponsor MUST include her spouse's income and that he MUST fill a form i-864a... and that their combined income should be listed on each i-864/i-864a
VJ forums have conflicting information
-
It was Saylin's NVC wiki that brought this to my attention... She states that joint sponsors who filed jointly should put the joint income and that its a common error
-
Thank you!
I guess I'll call nvc tomorrow, too, maybe to double check. It seems like either way could be right, but I think the instructions state "from 1040" so that would be the combined income. So confused...
