  1. Had an interview scheduled for noon. My husband and I were up late, trying to run around to make copies of stuff, and print outs as were are last minute people. We finally finished at 1120 drive to the office arrived at 1140. Checked in I went to use the bathroom came back my husband was standing waiting for me. I got there she asked my hubby who is the petitioner to go in first and have me stay outside. I waited for 10 minutes which seemed like a year. She then came and called me and asked my hubby to stay outside.

I got in she asked that I take an oath before sitting down. She then asked for my ID, work permit, passport, I gave then to her. All along she was not even smiling.

All questions on the 485 form I mean all questions line by line.

she then asked my hubby's names and date of birth and place of birth

She asked me to tell her all the story of how we met up to our marriage

    where did we get married.

She then asked me if we had a reception

Who was at the wedding, did my parents attend the wedding did his parents attend the wedding. Does her have any siblings or parents in the usa . asked if I have any siblings and parents in the usa

She asked what my husband does

She asked me where I work and where my husband works

she asked if we have ever travelled and where we went and why we went to the places we went

She asked me if we have ever be hospitalized..i said no we have been lucky she smiled.

She asked me about how our parents reacted about the wedding

She asked me if we have children

She then told me she will be doing a back ground check later today. Since we have been married for more than two years I can file for citizenship at anytime after 3 years. she then asked is there anything you would like to add? I have a file full of papers i said i don't even know what to give you i have plenty of stuff. She smiled and said you are so organized then i said what do you expect when i have been in school for this years lol i know that was not appropriate but whatever...i gave her recent bills, bank statement i tried to give her pictures she said no...i have enough. She said once I get my GC I can take it to my work place and I can use it to travel. she walked me out and gave me directions on how to get to the lobby where my husband was waiting.

She had asked my hubby the same questions..

When I got home I saw the card has been ordered to be mailed we will mail it to your address. the I-130 was also approved.

I want to thank you all for the support the payers and comfort through sharing of your experiences. I know I haven't meet you guys but I feel like I know you all personally.

Advice like i told my husband yesterday don't lie, just be honest in case we get separated. Pray if you are a believer, don't panic when separated like we did. Good luck to everyone in your future endeavors. One love

carry your I-20 she asked for mine..

  3. Congratulations to everyone..it looks like everyone has been approved so far. For the ones waiting for a waiver,,take heart the decision will be here before you know it. I have an interview on Thursday at 1200 pm. It is such an odd time i feel. I am not nervous as i used to be in the past, i know i should be since i don't have a lawyer but i know my God will be present.

    This is what we have

Joint taxes for 2013 and 2014

Joint lease for the last 2.5 years

Joint account, debit cards, cheques, recent bank statement

Health insurance with both our names

car insurance with both our names old and recently renewed

Bills with both our names, electricity, water sewer and trash, internet...we don't watch TV so we have never had cable.

Tithe and offering receipts as we both met at our church and still are members there..

Picture before we met, during my graduation, with family members, with church members, during choir performance as we both sing in the choir, two or three wedding picture..

Things we don't have that i wonder if will make a difference

Our wedding album..i lost my album when we moved..we will be doing another ceremony next year when we both travel to our country of origin

Did not exchange wedding rings/band..we are seventh day Adventist hence don't exchange rings

I did not change my last name..my husband is okay with that..my mother never changed hers either and they have been married for 35 years so really what is in a name.

Vacation tickets..i hate flying, i get really nauseous so we have been doing road trips i didn't keep receipts since i never thought it would be used as evidence lol.

We don't have children..we have been married almost three years..we haven't been so lucky yet.

I need prayers friends especially for confidence..i get nervous especially since i started a new job this week it has been a stressor in my life and taking full time graduate school.

Anything that i need to bring along..other than the obvious, birth certificates, marriage certificates, passports, social security( is it even necessary) employment letter..W-2, WP,...thanks.

  4. You are playing with fire. An RFE, although it can mean your application is "touched" and close to approval, is negative if not properly responded to. Some petitioners have had their case closed because they claimed they were "right" and resent basically the same info requested, as opposed to doubling down and strengthening their response with more than is asked in the RFE. If you sent the birth certificate and received such a response, you better believe your "citizenship" is being questioned, whether right or wrong, thus the addition of a passport would be extremely helpful. Sometimes they just want to see a passport to cover their bases. They have the power. Tread carefully.

Even when I don't understand the USCIS mind, I think what you are saying to some extent is true. I got a RFE for BC, a lawyer advised me to send the same copy that I had sent. My instincts wouldn't let me do that, knowing that a RFE is one golden chance and you don't play with it. I was given 87 days to respond so it could not be just an easy task. Nway I had the civil authority issue another BC and make a copy that was certified by the same authority before I sent it. I realized that they had a mistake at the office with my BC in a way that if one tried to search for it in the system, it was unavailable. Good luck, this process may be spendy however you rather do things right rather than regret. You might be fine too sending the same copy but sending an original copy is pointless, if they wanted an original copy they will specify that.

  5. I filled all the application and got confirmation of the applications sent already in 10/22 ( october 22)

    my AOS package I-130/i-485/I-765/AP

I got the confirmation notice for it and then the bio appointment, I went to the bio appointment, is being 10 days, and didn't heard about the USCIS, So this is normal right? They only check the backgroung and then send the EAD card, uscis doesn't tell people that the biometrics passed the check or anything like that? that's what I meant, notification about background being done and be in process ... Thank you for your help :) appreciate

  6. wish you well is all I can say. I just talked to a friend of mine in MN who filled in August and is going to interview on dec 18. She used a lawyer and was saying that those people who use lawyers get their cases processed faster than those who don't. I did not want to believe that because that will be way to unfair, however she said that her case moved to testing and interviewing and was stuck there for a while before she received a date. I have faith I will receive a letter for January 2015 and so will you.

  7. Don't loose sleep over evidence,...I have gone through past post on VJ and I have seen posts of people who literally had nothing to show other than a marriage license. It looks like you have been married for less than 2 years so the first interview might not be so bad. I have seen people who get married the same month and send their AOS package right away with no evidence...so just be familiar with your spouse and things around you and be honest with the answers. They will approve you and expect you to send them more evidence during ROC..so you better prepare well. You can get membership at samsclub or a fitness center where you pay like 10 dollars a month..Just pray and be confident. That is all I am going to do. Wish you well comrade.

  8. Congrats to our pioneers, you guys deserve it. Enjoy the land of the free freely...Thanks again for the interview updates..sure helpful. Also congrats to the ones receiving updates on their cases,,,it makes us know that them officers are quite doing something. Patient will pay off. To our friend that just got an RFE, take heart, once you reply to it correctly they will start working on your case again. Good luck, just look for a sponsor if you don't have one..my husband and I make over 100,000 but I have a sponsor for just incase they send me a RFE for affidavit. Happy thanks giving to everyone...

  9. HI everyone,

I have a question about I-765, so yesterday I got a letter for biometric with I-765 Barcode.

i've done biometric for I-485 few weeks ago already (the biometric appointment letter had only I-485 barcode), do you think that I need to go to this biometric appointment?

Plus our interview will be on December 18, soon

Kinda of a silly question lol...yes you will have to go to the appointment. Dec 18 is almost here, good luck.

  10. There is anybody here that can share some experience About the RFE?

    Thanks guy

I asked one lawyer and she said depending on what the RFE is, it will delay the EAD. Typically they will process your EAD after an RFE in 1 to 2 weeks after moving the case to ready for interview. Among all the September filers, only few people have received their EAD's. You can follow the forum for September fillers. It has not been 90 days since September or your date of application. Should hear from them soon, but this process will require patience which is as good as assuming nothing happened, otherwise you will grow some gray hair worrying of this process. Worrying does help with this process, they will get back to you in a timely manner. Good luck.

  11. I did use my SSN as I was employed at my university... and I believe I did mention that on i-485... but nothing related to employment was asked during the interview... which lasted about 15 minutes. I was in and out in 30 min.

Pretty smooth process, but I did my homework before filing my AOS package... took me over 15 days to put it together...didn't want to have any RFEs..

Congratulations again...I thought I did my homework before too, but somehow I got a RFE on a birth certificate which I had already sent with my original paperwork. my husband has the same exact BS as mine issued by the district registrar, my friends who already have done AOS have the same BS issued by the same place as mine but for some reason they would not accept mine. I had to request for a new one. Just weird. I am glad I came as a student, made me go to school I will not regret it anyway. All the best in life.

  12. Hi guys,

I received an RFE today in mail for form i-485. It says " You have submitted an English translation of a foreign birth certificate: please submit a copy of the applicant's foreign birth certificate issued by the appropriate civil authority"

Are they asking for a copy of my real "Non-English" Birth certificate? While filing i-485, I sent them a copy of my translated birth certificate.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

I got the same RFE no so long ago, I asked this lawyer who was nice to charge me 25 dollars...she looked at the website to find out which civil authority they are talking about. since I am Kenyan, they required a copy from CRD, civil registrar department. Although the lawyer told me to submit the same copy that is not black and white which I did initially, I told her I was going to request a copy from the crd since mine was issued by the district office. So I sent a copy of my birth certificate issued at the district, copy of my bio information from passport and a letter requesting them to issue me a new birth certificate. They issued me a new birth certificate with same information on the district BC. They made a copy and certified it using a rubber stamp, I also got the BC legalized by foreign affairs in Kenya. The whole process took about 18 days. I know you were given 87 days so you have to start working right away. I also had my uncle and neighbor write an affidavit of birth for me and they were notarized. I sent the RFE on the 3rd of Nov, they received it on the 5th of Nov, on the 12th of Nov they moved my case to testing and interviewing. So be sure you respond to the RFE well. All the best my dear.

  13. Hi, VJ family, for those how has already gone to the interview or anyone willing to answer the question, when you were asked the question when and how did you meet your spouse... how did you answer the question. do they ask one person or both? It would be nice to hear spouses who met here in the USA and ended up marrying. I am a talker just my personality, and so is my husband, i am scared i might volunteer information that is not necessary or will lead to many other questions, we are generally so poor with dates,... I have been married to my husband for over two years and together over 5 years.

Would you please share your answer to that question?

  14. Thank you guys....very excited to be done with the process... of course, I still have to file more paperwork in a little less than 2 years.... but that's easier.

By the way, I went to the SS office, and they will give me a new card. they also recorded all the numbers on the back of the card.....The endorsement will be gone like you mentioned

did you work under your restricted SSN? if you did, did you disclose it on your 485 and 325a? did employment question come up during the interview?

  15. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer but mine has been "ready to be scheduled for an interview" since 10/8/14 and the website says that I should have received an interview notice by 11/7/14 if not to contact them to get the notice re-sent. Well, I contacted them on 11/10/14 to let them know that I never received anything but the lady on the phone told me that their system doesn't show that I have even been scheduled at all! So basically told me that the date is probably a fluke due to their new system... sigh...

Does that mean i should not hope for an interview notice by december 12th too...? it says i can request for an e-receipt if i dont get a hard copy by dec 12th. i wonder if you can access the website the gave you for an e-recept and see if you have any luck.

  16. Let us all pray that all our cases will be adjudicated before President Obama issues an executive order on Immigration by the end of the year. According to the news, Republicans will block USCIS budget which could delay greencard and employment authorization issuance.

I believe we have waited long enough and we should not endure the problems of those illegals. I am in favor of immigration reform and my heart goes for those in hiding especially for Filipino TNT's but I also believe that legal immigrant issues needs to be resolve first than those illegals.

To date...my case now is in 46 days no RFE and no response on the expedited request.

Only USCIS knows what is going on. I pity my partner whose working a lot and cant even share for the expenses.

Never mind media, if media predicted everything in this world we would be dead by now...The same reason the illegal person wants to adjust to US is the same reason the legal person wants to adjust his/her status. USA country is the land of the free, belongs to the Indians so everyone should be allowed to live ideally. Almost everyone migrated here for a reason. Let us wish them the very best too. RFE is currently making cases late by 2 months that is 60 days. They should tell you on the website when they will give a response. Hope things will get better for you soon, it can get tough depending on 1 income.

  17. I sent my AOS package through marriage (I-130 AND I-485)

in the date 10/22/2014 I received confirmation of deliver

Now how do i Know what is happening? How long does it normally takes for me to receive anything about it? Is there a timeline or time that people normally wait for to hear from USCIS?

I sent with the E-notification form (g1115) something like that

I would be very thankfull for any help

You will receive all the 3 or 4 NOAs in the mail. The process is very slow, so don't worry about a thing.

  18. So, like I think I mentioned before my husband had to leave the first days of October to Asia because his job.

He was supposed to be gone for a month only and come back.

This past week he said he had to stay longer.... and now he says he doesn't know the return date, would come at any moment if I had an interview appointment if not the sooner would be Christmas days :(

He is not planning on moving there, we are NOT moving there, he is staying until everything gets sorted with the company so they don't need him anymore.

He does go to Asia a few times a year also to other countries but it's usually a week and comes back.

Is it going to be a problem for our interview you think guys???? I'm worried everything can get mess up because of this, it wasn't in our agenda when we filled our AOS in September, and I can't go with him or visit because I don't have AP :(

I'm in a house where I can't even go buy food by myself , so overwhelmed right now about this news, but all our money depends on him finishing this business in Asia right now.

I would not worry about it now..start worrying when you get a letter for interview. I have a feeling many of us wont have an appointment until January so you will be fine. Worry is such a waste of time.
