My husband’s naturalization interview was yesterday at the Washington Field office. I went along with him for moral support, The appointment time was at 8:20am but my husband got called in a bit earlier, He passed his civics, reading and writting tests. The IO was very polite and friendly and went through the application. My husband had to correct a few things and the IO happily made the changes. At the end, the officer stated she was a new employee and was unable to make a decision, she had to submit it to

her supervisor for final review. All they requested was our bank statements, we took a few other documents to show we are in a bonafide relationship but they did not need it.

At the end she handed a paper checking off the box for passed civics test and also the decision cannot be made box.

Over all it was a positive yet nerve wrecking experience. When we came home, I checked the status and it had said “you attended your interview. Please wait while we continue to review your application”. We applied based on the 3 year rule. No long trips outside the US , no issues with the the law. Should there be a concern at this time? All the IO states was that she was new and she had to get final review from her supervisor.

    Any comments? Thoughts?

    Continuous Residence

Applicants are required to show that they have:

    • Resided continuously in the U.S. for five years before applying, (see legal basis), or
    • Resided continuously in the U.S. for three years in the case of qualified spouses of U.S. citizens, (see legal basis

“Continuous residence” means that the applicant has maintained residence within the United States for the required period of time shown above.

Extended absences outside of the U.S. may disrupt an applicant’s continuous residence.

    Physical Presence

Applicants are required to show that they were:

    • Physically present in the U.S. for thirty months within the five year period before applying, or (see legal basis)
    • Physically present in the U.S. for eighteen months within the three year period before applying in the case of qualified spouses of U.S. citizens (see legal basis)

In addition, applicants are required to show they have resided for at least three months immediately preceding the filing of Form N-400 in the USCIS district or state where the applicant claims to have residency (See 8 CFR §316.2(a)(5) & §319.1(a)(5)).

    Exceptions

I did read this but i am still confused, is a 116 days in a period of 3 years a bad sign or not?

  4. Quick question to anyone who has knowledge, if an applicant has a total of 116 days out of the country based on 3 year rules (marriage based) would that be a concern for naturalization? My husband has taken one trip per year that lasted a month each time and when we listed the trip on the application, the total came out to 116 days total of 4 trips in the past 3 and half years, would this be a concern?

  6. Hello everyone!

Here's my experience of AP process (221G white slip given after the interview of my husband at the ISL embassy)

    Case is CR1 (Spousal Visa)

    -Interview was on 18 August

-CO told my husband to wait a month and he will hear something from them, no approval or good news was given at that point but the AP white slip.

    - First 3 weeks no updates

-Only 1 real update on 13 Sep then on the 15th status changed from AP to ISSUED in the afternoon.

-Our AP was resolved in 3 weeks and 4 days, thankfully it took less than a month.

-I wish all of you the best, it is only a matter of weeks and the good news will come your way. Don't email them too much, just be patient and keep on praying; stay strong for your spouse as this could be quite tough for both partners; as I've already experienced it. Inshallah everyone will get it soon.

    Congratulations!

  7. Hello everyone,

I had my interview on April 25 2016 and was asked to submit some documents. I submitted those documents, but I was asked a to submit some more documents and timeline of my travel and stay in US. Last documents were submitted on June 29th. In a reply to my email I was told that my documents were pending review but today I sent an email again and to which they replied the following:

    Dear Sir/Madam,

Our record indicates that your submitted documents were received, reviewed and found to be acceptable in support of your visa application. However, the administrative processing on your visa application is still pending. Once it is done, our office will contact you soon.

    Sincerely,

    Correspondence & Support Unit,

    Visa Section,

    US Embassy, Islamabad.

    SN

Just give them time to finish their work on your case, looks good that they are satisfied with the papers you submitted.

  8. Thanks for the response. Your timeline...it's awful. :-/

Did they keep the passport that whole time? What happened at the interview?

They kept the passport the whole time but we did ask for it back a few months before visa was issued because my husband was sick of it all.

The interview, they kept accusing my husband of providing fake documents. They didnt beleive he was legally divorced And wanted more proof of that. But he awnsered all the questions about me and our relationship. They just wanted to give us a hard time, there was no issue with our case.

  9. thanks sarahch

so i can send the medical via american express? and dont need an appointment with e,embassy to submit my medical physically?

i am from Islamabad,do u know the address of AMx?

You dont need an appointment with embassy to submit medical physically, just send it through AMEX.

    The address is

AEG TRAVEL services/ american express travel services

    plot # 3 and 4 I&T center

    G-8/4 ISLAMABAD

  10. hello vj'rs family

i wannted to ask you a question that i have recieved an email from embassy saying ''i have to submit my updated medical examination from embassy approved physican''

they didnt ask me to submit any thing else like DS-160 ..etc...

    my query is

how i am gonna submit my medical to the embassy once i have my medical done, like through postal address to embassy

or i must have appointment letter from the embassy to go into embassy and submit it physically ???

how it gonna work?? as embassy simply email that above thing, there was no appointment letter with in email they sent.

moreover do the medical center perform medical without appointment letter or just showing them e-mail is sufficient

earler i have medical done in early september 2015

please respond ASAP as i have to book appointment for my medical to the medical center

    thanks for your time

The medical examination results are sent through the american express office in your city, they send it to the embassy.

  11. Salam everyone. I had my nikaah in Islamabad. What do I need for nikaah nama? Does it need to be registered with Union Council, right? Anything else? Do I need something from NADRA.

    Wsalaam

Congrats on ur nikkah! You need your nikkahnama to be registered with the union council, one copy is yours, one copy with ur spouse and one with the registrar. You dont need from nadra.

  12. Congratulations!

AlhamdoLillah, today i got issued right after exactly 5 weeks, i had an interview on 24th feb and today 30 April got issued. 1st 3 week i didnt have any update and then last 2 weeks i had frequent updates date, almost 6 updates and then Issued. So guys InshaAllah everyone waiting for the issue will get visa, just be patient and no need to panic if until 1 month you dont get any update. yesterday i got my 6th update and this morning i got issued finally.

Key is to pass on with this waiting time is to keep praying and be patient, and have a believe that if your case is genuine then you will get your visa sooner or later, more chances are within 60 days and more likely 5-6 weeks.

Now i am waiting for the passport, my wife is in Karachi and waiting for the call to pickup the passport, hopefully within couple of days she will get her passport back.

Anyone from Karachi can share their experience that how long it take to get call for passport pickup.? or anyway to track the passport? really appreciated.

    Congrats!
