Hi there,

Looking to get information on documentation needed/steps/current biometric timelines to apply for a I131 re-entry permit for my parents. My parents received permanent residency last year and visited the US for a couple of months. They are back in their country of citizenship right now and will be visiting back within the 6 month time frame from their last visit.

As part of this visit they intend to apply for the re-entry permit to get a 2 year extension since they need more time back home to figure out logistics for move, long term plans, etc (they are not sure if they want to keep their GC status or apply for citizenship here)

I've searched the group because i'm specifically trying to see what all is required as part of their I131 filing (form does seem pretty straight forward) but not sure if any additional evidence needs to be submitted to help extension approval (determine legitimacy of their request)

Also, I understand they have to come here, file paperwork, and stay here until biometrics - trying to see how long on average USCIS takes for a biometric appointment after filing (California). If anyone knows of any existing forums already dedicated to this information (guidelines/steps on what needs to be done, what additional information should be submitted, timelines, etc) I would appreciate if you could share a link to it. If not, if anyone can share any useful insights that would be very helpful as well!

Sorry about my confusion but is this in case someone wants to change their name after being naturalized or does everyone need to go change their immigration status with the SS Office?

Finally had my interview on 1/25. The official gave me a sheet of paper right after the interview that indicated that my case has been recommended for approval. The process was pretty straight forward and took about 45 minutes. The only key items I was asked pertained to my residence and trips. He asked me to provide details of every residence I lived at since Jan 2015 (address and dates) and every international trip I took since then (dates and whom I travelled with). Case status online changed within an hour of the interview as well! Waiting on the Oath notice now!

The SF office didn’t let me change my name though and recommended I fill out paperwork with the federal court once I get my naturalization certificate. Said I won’t be charged a fee to change my name if I did so within a year of becoming a citizen so based on my understanding I should ideally apply for it after naturalization and before I apply for a passport.

Anyway, here's my story about my interview in San Francisco.

 

I just had my citizenship interview yesterday and got it with flying colors! The interviewer came out to the waiting area to get me right at my appointment time and the whole thing took about an hour. One funny thing is I almost fell in wrong line at the wrong entrance but I made it on time!

 

The questions he asked were:

 

1. How many US Senators are there?

2. When the Constitution was written?

3. What is freedom of religion?

4. When must all men register for the Selective Service?

5. Name one that borders Canada.

6  What is ocean is on the East Coast of the United States?

 

At the end of the interview he told me he will recommend me for approval and it might be 2-3 months until the oath. About few hours later, I got a notification saying that they placed me in line for Oath Ceremony, and my waiting time is 4 months!

It seems like the waiting time between interview and oath used to be consistently 1 month for San Francisco filers at another thread. 

Oh wow! I'm an SF filer too and my interview is on 1/25. I thought oaths for SF were around 3 weeks to a month too. 4 months sounds so long, hope you get it sooner!

At your oath ceremony they will take your green card, however.

Thanks Hypnos! Does anyone also have any idea of where we can find a schedule of Oath Ceremonies in all states? Trying to look for the ones in San Francisco but can't find!

Also have a quick question for those who have had their interviews already, do they take your passport/green card after the interview? I was planning on traveling a few days after the interview and wanted to make sure it was okay?

Not firsthand experience, but I know of a friend of a friend who moved out of state prior to her interview.   She gave notice of her change of address but did not move her case to a new field office.  She decided to fly back to the original field office for her interview in order to avoid delays in processing of her N-400.  Just thought that might be a consideration for you. Hope that helps.

Thanks, no I’m a January filer and my current estimated case completion time is March 2019. I totally don’t mind flying back to Chicago for the interview but I was told that as soon as you submit my address change form they automatically divert the case to the new state. I don’t know if there’s a separate form for transferring your application to the new state that’s different from the address change form?

Ah thank you! It sucks but it is what it is. Especially since my case currently has an estimated completion date of March 2019 which is 14 months after I filed! I guess I'll wait a little more where I've been waiting so much anyways. Thanks for your help!

So something really weird happened on my USCIS account today. This morning i got a text saying there was activity on my case! I got super excited and logged in to see what it was but the update was for my Form 751 to remove conditional status on my green card. What's weird is that my conditional status was already removed and I got my permanent 10-year green card back in September 2017! And the update itself, even though i got it this morning, said

"On September 18, 2017, the Post Office delivered your new card for Receipt Number WAC1708150362, to the address that you gave us. The tracking number assigned is UNAVAILABLE. You can use your tracking number at www.USPS.com in the Quick Tools Tracking section. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address."

Has anyone else witnessed this? Is it possible that there was an actual update to my N-400 application but the system is just messing up and I'll get to see it on my account in a day or so?

Does anyone have any idea as to why the Chicago Field office is so slow? We literally haven't moved at all! I also checked groups from the last 2 months and seems like even they haven't gotten interview notices as yet!

I hope so but doesn't look like it given the stats!

This is getting so annoying now but I don't see any progress/update on the Chicago Field Office front. No one is getting interview notices and no one's case completion time has decreased either i guess

I think the "interview scheduled" you all are seeing on the old site refers to the biometrics interview, not the other one. I see the same thing but next to my "interview scheduled" on the old site, the date is the same one as the date they scheduled my biometrics

Yes, it will. Happened to me too. It usually updates in a day or two
