  1. Wanted to post this experience and see if anyone has had a similar experience and how long it took to get it resolved.

My wife FINALLY received her EAD card yesterday (originally filed on 12/5/06) and it had the wrong picture on the card. The picture was of her son. All other information on the card was correct (name, A number, F, etc.)

We went downtown ATL to the district office and they said that they could not help, as they do not issue EAD locally any longer and all requests go back thru the process for approval. She also mentioned that we might have to go back and re-take the biometrics. Obviously, we are very dissapointed and the process once again shows signs that it is not water-tight and of high quality.

My question is: Has anyone had a similar experience with errors and what steps did you take to resolve and how long to get corrected?

Today, I have sent a Next Day Air letter to the Chicago office with a cover letter, incorrect EAD Card and some other backup documents.

As always - appreciate the help!!

  2. UPDATE**

if anyone is in need of an emergency AP, here are some tips that I can share based on my success this morning in Atlanta.

    - A receipt number is required to allow the district office to process an AP

    - The physical NOA is not required, only the receipt number successfully loaded in the system.

    - If you do not have a NOA and receipt number, you can call and navigate to teh second level support where they can look up the latest status of your case and confirm that you are loaded in the system

    - make an Info pass appt for the local district office. First thing in the morning is not as busy

    - They will try to tell you that they can only grant based on life or death situations, but my Wifes father is having back surgery and care is needed and required to support. They did not ask many questions after our clarification

    - Have a document from the doctor (translated) that states the emergency or medical situation, signed by teh doctor with their applicable stamps or id information. Thet collected this from me as part of the process.

    - If there are more than one being processed, be sure that each person has a I-485 on file and individual A numbers assigned. My stepson did not have his own A number. His case with Fiance visa was with his mother. A delay occurred in processing my AP due to not having the A number for teh stepson.

    - Immigration said that it would take 1 day to process and assign new A number and they would give me a call when complete, which they did.

    - Picked up two AP (I-512) this morning

    Hope this helps

  3. Folks....

This might have already been discussed on the board, but I did not have any luck finding any comments:

I have applied for AOS, EAD and AP for my wife and son and do not have a NOA yet. I sent via UPS NDA about 2 weeks ago and do not have an NOA yet, nor is the case in the system yet. We made an info-pass appt and went to the district office in ATL, which said they could help and consider the emergency AP, but the AOS has to at least be in the system.

My question to folks on the board is:

We plan to go back downtown ATL to re-try, but I need to find a way to know when it is in the system, so we do not waste another trip. The office dsaid it could only be done in person and cannot be vewrified on line.

Anyone have any luck with calling the 800 number or any other method for checking status of cases?

  4. Congrats.

I am in the same situation and do not have a NOA yet and they could not help me since they could not prove that the AOS was in progress. We contacted the doctor and they wrote a letter explaining thye type of emergency and why it was necessary for the duaghter to be there. After talking to the officer, she mentioned that it looked like it could qualify for an emergency and that I had brought all of the correct papers.

She wasn't able to help since our I-485 was not yet in the system, nor an NOA distributed. It has been about two weeks since they rec'd the packets and hopefully will only be a few days more before it is logged in the USCIS computer with ref number.

Also, does anyone know if there is a way to contact a live person who can look in the USCIS system to see if a NOA or receipt number has been logged for teh AOS pending?
