  1. Hi, all

After a very long process, my wife will be attending her green card interview next week. She is European and will be interviewing at a US embassy in Europe.

I was under the impression that she'd get a stamp in her passport at the interview if it is successful -- but now I'm reading that she'll need some packet to be mailed to her before she can travel to the US. Is this true? If so, about how long after a successful interview does someone need to wait until they can travel to the US?

  2. My wife and I are planning to move to the US and have started the process of filing for an IR-1 visa. I haven't yet submitted the I-130 form but we have everything collected and filled out.

My question is: I am in the process of interviewing for a job in LA and the company says that if I'm successful, they'll pay for my wife's visa application. Would it be better to kick the process off from Europe, or for me to move and start the process from within the US?

Also, I've heard conflicting information about when my wife would be able to join me in the US. Is it after we have received notice from the US government that they are processing our visa application? Or is it after it has been approved?

  3. OP, co-minglining of finances is not required. It it's something you have great, include evidence of it. However, don't do something just for the sake of gathering evidence. Furthermore, third party affidavits carry little to zero weight in the overall evaluation of a file, skip them unless you are light on evidence in other areas.

Since you have been living together in Finland, you no doubt have plenty of evidence of that time. Time spent together in-person is your strongest evidence, focus on that.

Cool, thanks. We've actually been living together for 3.5 years, in both Germany and Finland, but most of the stuff we have that indicates we live(d) at the same address is in a foreign language.

Can we just staple translations of those non-English forms / letters to them, or should we get them professional translated and notarized?

  4. I hate to post this to the forum as it seems like such a basic question, but my local consulate (Helsinki) has been of 0 help.

I live in Finland and am beginning the greencard process for a IR-1 with my wife (European, but not Finnish. We just live here.).

How do I submit the fee for the I-130? I have a US bank account, but I don't have any more checks. Can I go to the US Embassy here and pay it?

One other ancillary question: for the proof of the real relationship, we don't have any joint leases or utility bills (eg. bills with both of our names on it), although we've been together for 5 years. What should we submit? Pictures from the wedding?

  5. I am in the end of the same process as you with USC husband. We also filing from Finland and we both live and work here and are going to move to US together. We are using a joint sponsor from US since my husband's income is here in Finland. As to proof domicile we sent them proof of us bank accounts and credit cards with us address on them. Also sent them a moving quote from cargo company and explaining all the steps my husband has taken to establish domicile like job offer etc. We own a house in US so that helps us, but we have friends from Finland that have been fine with not owning a house there.

I'm also living in Finland (ignore the profile, we are married and will be filing CR1) and we'll be filing from here :) I have a US bank account and US credit card but the address is my mother's -- do you think that would work? We'd like to file from here and receive the decision before moving.

If I do move before the visa is granted, do I need to be in Finland for the interview?
