  1. I had the same problem. I went there but he would not give the SSN to me due to "security reasons". You might have better luck.

Please ensure your name is registered to your address. If you are not registered the mail man might send your SSN back and it will get destroyed. Then you'll have to reapply (but will only take a week this time). Call your local SSA office and ask. And if you need to reapply just add the owner of the place where you live as a C/O. Worked for me. Good luck! :)

  2. Hi,

My future parents-in-law will be joint sponsoring my fiancee since her income is not above the 125% of poverty line. Should each of them fill out an i-864 or can e.g. one of them just be added to the other's application under Part 6.6 (see attached image)? The instructions it refers to I do not find relatively useful. Also, my future-in-law's share W2s / tax returns AND bank accounts (unsure of relevant for this).

    Thanks in advance!

  3. So I've waited two weeks and I have not yet received the SSN I applied for after entering the US on my K1 visa. I called up the SSA to ask what is up. She mentioned that since I probably have not registered myself to live on our address (which I haven't) at the postal office they will not deliver the SSN to our address since only my fiancee is registered to live here. Not me.

So now I am trying to figure out how to add my name to the address. I found this: https://moversguide.usps.com/icoa/home/icoa-main-flow.do?execution=e2s1&_flowId=icoa-main-flow&- but it requires a current US address to fill out, so not much help.

Any ideas how to register myself as a residence at our place so I can receive my SSN?

    Thanks!

  4. I got this response from my consulate:

"Please read the attached brochure to your issued Fiance visa sealed envelope

If you wish work in the United States contact the USCIS office.

The USCIS may grant permission for the fiancé(e) visa holder to take up employment in the U.S. before the marriage takes place. To obtain employment authorization follow the instructions on the following webpage:http://www.uscis.gov/i-765"

Not very helpful really, since they say nothing about AFTER we get married and up until the point of EAD is received.

Anyone else know anything about this?

    Thanks!

  5. Dear VJ'ers,

First of all thanks for all the help in the past. Great community!

I will be leaving for the US mid-February to get married via my K1 visa (yah!). My current Dutch employer would like to keep me on-board at least until I get my EAD approved. Since I work in IT it is easy to work from our apartment in the US. I am fully aware that I am not allowed to work for any US company, but what about foreign companies while in the US under K1 waiting for EAD? I can still get paid in Euros and pay Dutch tax so no connection to US economy. I have read multiple threads on VJ and via Google search, but the answers are very mixed and therefore my insecurity about the topic. I am especially looking for a bit more official documentation but personal experiences are more than welcome!

    Thanks!

  6. I have added multiple people on LinkedIn in the area I will move to, especially recruiters. It's a good way to start connecting. Just don't connect randomly, but write a small text why you are adding them and why you are interested in their company / specific area of work. It's all about connections. I also tried a Subreddit for my area on reddit. Very helpful people there (and some trolls). Good luck!

  7. Hi all,

I contacted a subreddit related to my future home area on reddit.com to ask for advice on job search in the area. A lot of people were really friendly and said I could just contact them if I had questions or if I found an I interesting position on their job's website. It's incredible what online communities can do. So now I have 10-15 people to contact ones I go there and get my EAD approved :) worth a shot for anyone looking for a job. Good luck!

  8. We're in the same situation, but I am not that worried. As long as you have your papers in order and show some stable financials from your co-sponsor etc. It should be fine - we included a letter saying that my fiance is expected to graduate May 2015 and expect to make $xx.xxx based on market salary in the area for new grads.

Also, unsure where you file from but in Amsterdam they will also accept the beneficiaries finances which is a plus if you have some good savings to show.

  9. It's not a big issue. Just make sure you fill out the DS-160 correctly this time as this is more important in these last stages of getting the visa approved. I would be absolutely honest with the CO at the interview and tell him that you mixed up the two columns in the G325-A. If it's really necessary, the CO can correct it when he pulls up the file on his computer at the interview. I don't think you will get delayed or even rejected for that. Good luck!

Thank you! I hope not. I can imagine if it was my own DOB that was wrong.

I will probably mention it at the interview to ensure honesty here, instead of playing stupid / unaware. I kick myself for such a mistake though. Fingers crossed!

  10. I am current filling out the DS-160 online after I today received Package 3 from the consulate (Yah!). During the DS-160 I have to fill in my Father's and Mother's date of birth (DoB). I then check my G-325A (just to double-check) which we included in the K1 package and I notice that I mixed the dates of their DoB! The year is correct, but day and month is wrong since my Father now has my Mother's date and month and vice versa.

How big of an issue is this? I am afraid of notifying the consulate if they want us to re-submit everything or this can cause massive delay or even rejection.

  11. We did not send any chat or proof of phone calls. We attached images of us together on Christmas eve, me in the US, her here in Netherlands etc. - especially in front of national landmarks is a good idea, since those actually prove the location :) also copy of boarding passes, intiniaries, image and receipt of ring is a good idea. Unless you do not regular-ish meet each other I guess chat/emails might be a good idea.
