  1. I am in the US on a two year conditional green card. I came from Canada on a K1 visa and was issued my two year conditional green card. My father has been diagnosed with cancer and has basically been given two months to live. I want to return to Canada to be with him until he passes. I could be there for up to two months. Will I have any problem returning to the US after being in Canada for that long? Is there anything I need to take with me besides my green card when I travel? My wife and daughter will remain in the US while I'm gone.

  2. For those that have already received their green card (congrats to all) how long are they good for? Is it good for 10 years or a shorter duration since you have to go through another step just prior to your two year wedding anniversary? I had an air force recruiter tell me they won't even talk to you about joining without a green card that is good for 10 years is why I'm asking.

  3. Congratulations to all who have had interviews waived and green cards mailed out. I was hopeful something would change with my case soon but since EAD I've heard nothing and status is still the "fingerprint received" status. How can I find out if my local field office even has my case to check a timeline? How many of us August filers are left who have had nothing but radio silence regarding GC?

  4. Congrats to you! Just shows us miracles can happen. Maybe we all get a green card for Christmas ?

Thanks! My husband's status did go from fingerprint received to new card in production. We did not get any communication about the interview being waved. I honestly could not believe it. These were the statuses for the greencard:

11/3/15 - We ordered your new card

11/6/15 - We mailed your new card to the address you gave us.

11/10/15 - We approved your Form I-485, Application to register permanent residence

  5. This is something I'm wondering too. But I also know that there are people that don't get the interview for months after they receive their EAD, so I don't want to chase up needlessly when there's a process in place. The only thing that does make me want to chase up on it though is the fact we've already seen a few 'scheduled for interview' notices come through for August filers and one even has an interview in place. Every time I complain about not seeing a notice though, I usually end up getting an email before I call up!

I went to the SS Office in Walnut Creek yesterday. I wish my husband had let me know that you can book time slots because we got there for when it opened and waited from 9am until 11:30 to be seen. The whole process was truly awful. When I finally did get called up, I had to go to the front door to meet this absolutely vile woman who had a face like thunder. I didn't want to judge on first impressions, but as we sat down in the back office, she curtly asked me for my passport, work authorisation and my form, all without even batting an eyelid toward me. I gave her my passport and work authorisation and said I hadn't filled out a form as I hadn't been asked to. She gave me the dirtiest look and said that she had, "just announced it over the speaker". Now, I was listening to all the announcements (and I even asked my husband to clarify after the fact) and what she said did not include those applying for a brand new SSN. I was livid that she was blaming me for her inability to list the correct uses for the form, but held my tongue enough to only say that I didn't recall it in her message. She huffily got up from her chair, practically shoved the form into my hands, and told me to fill it out and wait for my number to be called. I went back out into the waiting room, clearly disheveled, and my husband asked what was wrong. I said that I'd just encountered the rudest woman I've ever had the misfortune to meet. I started filling out the form (something that honestly could be saved for them to fill in as they ask you these questions anyway), and my number was called to go to a window. I then was graced with a lovely man named Jun who very daringly told me that I didn't have to fill out the rest of the form and that he would fill in the blanks. About 10 minutes later I was leaving having felt annoyed yet accomplished. If I'd just caught that woman's name though, I'd be making a formal complaint. I even saw her, while I was relaying information to Jun, push in front of a colleague to use the photocopier that her colleague was already using. She's a downright bully and lets down that entire branch.

But, enough of my venting, I just hope that no one else has the same experience. So all I can say to those applying for their SSN in the coming weeks is to book ahead and also to fill out the form before your number is called.

That is so terrible that there are people like that working in government positions that treat people so rude. If they don't like their job, they should quit and find another one. They are supposed to be helping people, not making it harder for them. Did you wait to apply for a SSN until after you received your work authorization? My husband went and got his SSN using his I-94 once he got to the states and before we ever sent off the AOS packets. Should he have waited or does it matter when you go and get it?

  6. My husband and I have a baby that we will need to put in daycare when his EAD card arrives and he's able to finally get a job. Is getting assistance from DHS to help pay for daycare in violation of the rules about my husband not being on government assistance while he's here? The assistance would be for our daughter and not him so I don't know if that applies or not. She's already on Sooner Care which is insurance for children in Oklahoma.

  7. EAD card mailed on 10/26 so hopefully will receive it soon. What is the length of time I should wait before calling to check the status on the I-485? Knock on wood I haven't received an RFE so I'm hoping that's a good sign, but status hasn't changed since saying my fingerprint fee was received. I realize once it changes to ready to schedule interview it's still a long wait, but just wondered the time frame before I'm able to call and check the status of it.

Checked this morning and no change, but checked again this afternoon and this is what I found! Woo hoo! Congrats to all who have received this status, and for all who haven't it shouldn't be much longer for you! No text and no email, just a change on the USCIS website.

  9. Congrats on all that have either received their EAD/AP card or those that have been approved!

I got mine approved on Saturday but received the update today. Was just about to call USCIS to get any information and checked my email quickly to see two little notifications that my EAD and AP were both approved and being produced. Woohoo! Can't wait to get the card in my hands to start looking for a job as I've been driving myself crazy with not working.

"On October 17, 2015, we ordered your new card for Receipt Number MSCxxxxxxxxxx, and will mail it to the address you gave us. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address."

    Congrats!!

  10. Such great news to see the updates today! It appears that the earlier August filers are seeing their EAD so I'm praying that's a good sign that the later August filers (me) will be receiving theirs VERY soon. My case status still has not changed so still waiting.....not very patiently. :clock:

  11. Hi Gang,

I'm part of the September forum. In our forum, we were wondering if you go for your biometrics appointment few days in advance or even a week advance. Does this buy you some time and speeds up your AOS and EAD processing? Is there any benefit of going earlier than your scheduled appointment? Thanks

So far there hasn't been for me. I only went three days early, but my case status has never changed from the initial status saying they received my fees.

  12. It's infuriating not having any updates on my online case since they cashed the cheques. Keeps you in limbo about what would or could not be happening! I'm hoping that my EAD/AP combo card is only around the corner... ?

I agree 100%! I check every day and every day nothing changes. Seems like they would want people to get out there and go to work!

Hi all! Just saw a status change in our EAD to say that a new card is being produced!! Very excited and hoping the interview follows soon!! :) August Filers, good news is coming!

Good news! Thanks for giving the rest of us some hope :)

  13. My husband did an early walk in for his biometrics on Tuesday, the 23rd. He had no problems getting in early. There was a little bit of a wait because he got there about 10:15 and they had already started their 10:00 group so he had to wait to go in with the 11:00 group. It wasn't a long wait at all, in and out of there in about an hour. Hopefully the work authorization will show up sooner rather than later! One more hurdle out of the way.

  14. When you go and do the biometrics (whether it's as scheduled or an attempted early walk in) you will have to take with you the biometrics appointment letter from USCIS. There is no way of doing the fingerprinting without that paper in hand...

When you receive the letter in the mail it will state what you have to take with you and where your appointment is scheduled to take place. Usually it's the appointment letter and the passport, but I took with me a copy of the marriage certificate, as I have changed my name after the marriage and the name in my passport was different. There was no mention of that in the letter from USCIS, but to me was common sense they would need it and indeed they did.

So be patient, you'll surely get the biometrics appointment in the mail pretty soon. Going to a location without it it will only result in loss of time.

I don't have any information about state ID and driver's license...if you figure it out, please share.

Thank you! I'm sure the appointment letter will be here in a week or so. If I find out any info on the DL or ID, I will be sure to post it. You guys are awesome!

  15. I received 3 text messages and 3 email notifications yesterday that the USCIS had accepted my AOS packet and my EAD and AP packets. Now waiting on biometrics letter with appointment time. For those that have just done a walk-in biometrics, what do you have to have with you when you walk in? I am going to try to find the location nearest me to see if it's even close enough to risk just walking in ahead of time and getting it done.

Also, anyone have any experience with getting a U.S. driver's license or state issued ID card yet? I'm wanting to get that done, but some threads seem to suggest I have to wait for the EAD card first.

  16. A very late August filer here, but an August filer all the same. Mailed my husband's AOS packet on 8/28/15 and it was delivered to the Chicago lockbox on 8/31/15. Let the waiting begin....

Mailed I-129F in July, 2014 and nearly a year later he was able to schedule his interview and receive his K-1 visa. Hoping this part of the process moves faster, but from the sounds of other posts it does not. Nice to find other August filers and track our progress together!
