  1. I have had a different experience. I moved most of my stuff down after my Visa was issued but before I activated it. I just put boxes in my car, and drive down, showing them my VISA but not using it. I know that there is no guarentee that they will allow me to cross, but as i live only 5 min from the border, I keep trying, and they haven't given my any problems yet. I called the POE several times to see if this is posible. I was told that it is up to the officer... So far, I have made 3 trips with my car full of boxes, and no problems. However, my fiance tried to take a load for me, and becuase he didn't have proof that the VISA was issued, they sent him back with the boxes.

I'm not recomending doing this, but it has worked for me.

    38 days to my wedding!

  2. I have an approved VISA, and I am still crossing to visit my fiance every couple of weeks, so that I can keep working here until the week beforer the wedding.

I have crossed the border about 30 times since starting this process, and nobody has said boo to me about it. I have gone during every stage. While awaiting NOA2, While awaiting Package 3, while awaiting my interview, and now with an approved VISA, waiting for the wedding. I tell them that my fiance is in the USA, and that I am going through the k-1 VISA process like a good little girl... Just going for a VISIT. I cross at the Peace Arch border near Vancouver, and drive to my fiance's place. No problems. Sometimes they asked if I have a job to go back to, and I show them a letter from my employeer saying that I am scheduled to work until the first week of June... and they say have a good trip!

  3. I also have much respect for Zyggy. I was terrified to try it, but after my interview when I was told that it was allowed, I called 3 different POE's and explained my situation. I got the same answer every time. I can still come and visit, as long as I make it clear that I am NOT activating my VISA.

So, after talking to all of these crossing guards, I decided to try it. 3 times - No problems yet. Last time I got especially bold and went with a trunk full of boxes that I was moving to my fiance's apartment. They asked me what I was bringing, I told them that it was just winter clothes I wanted to leave at my fiance's place... and again... No problem, have a good visit, and we'll see you again when you come to use your VISA. I haven't had anyone give me any kind of hassle up to this point.

However, I live about 7 min from the border. If they do want to make me use the VISA, I plan on just turning around and going home.

  4. I just wanted to let everyone in the same situation as me know that I have now crossed into the US 4 times without using my valid K VISA! It was issued 2 weeks ago and it is in my passport, but at the border I just tell them that I am NOT using it at this time, and I haven't had any problems. At my interview, I was told that I can cross as many times as I want, as long as it is not stamped. I can then go back to Canada keep working, and remain in Canada until just before the wedding.

I have just said that I am going down to meet with caterers, or look at Reception halls, but at this time I am NOT moving into the US, and I don't want to use my fiance VISA.

    Hope this helps somone.

  5. If my fiance comes with me to the interview, does it still need to be noterized? It seems pretty silly to do that if he is standing beside me to prove that he signed it.

Should we get it done anyway? The reason that I ask is that my fiance is in Canada with me right now. To have it notorized in the US, we will have to go back across the border, get it notorized, and then come back into Canada to have our interview in Vancouver. Is it really necessary?

  6. Hi Silverbutterfly, You live in Canada too? Which consulate are you going through? I live in Vancouver, so that answers that question.

Yeah, Both my sister and me fell in love with American men. What are the chances? I know about exchange... Not too much fun when you exchange it, although our dollar is getting higher every day....

  7. I am a Canadian, and my fiance is American.

I was wondering if my sister's husband can co-sponser me. He lives in Canada with his wife, but he has dual citizenship, American/Canadian.

Can he sponser me if he doesn't currently live in the USA? If so, how do we calculate his income? Can we calculate it in Canadian funds?

  8. I just had my medical exam in Vancouver. All that I needed was my case #, my passport, 3 photos, and money to pay them. That was it.

Maybe things are different because I am a Canadian citizen, but I would check just in case. It took me a while to get my doctor's appointment.

My interview is booked for April 24th. I faxed back my information on the 15th of March. First they booked me April 18 as I asked for the first available appointment, and then I changed it to the 24th of April so that my fiance could come with me.

Maybe I'm chicken, but I feel better knowing that he'll be there for the interview.

If you have any more questions, let me know I can try to help!

  9. At the very least you can cheat and use the K1 information for the spouse and just update the address to your current one for present address. :D

I disagree! You can't just use the same form and update the addresses. First of all the spouse information including name and birht date of your husband and wife wasn't applicable when filing k-1, and now is. Plus your employment would need change, plus if you have taken your husbands name, you need to fill that in instead of your maiden name.

This form has very different information to be put on once you are married.

  10. I agree. A friend of mine got serious food poisioning 3 days after entering the US. Without the proper health coverage she had to come back to Canada for treatment as the hospital bills were to expensive for her US fiance to pay. I know- what are the chances? You probably won't need it!

But, if you want to get health coverage get it! Better safe then sorry, and it's not that expensive to get it. I know that I will. You can get travel insurance before leaving your home country that is usually pretty affordable. At least in Canada you can. I think it cost me $75 for a month.

  11. I was wondering if anyone knows if this can be done ahead of time. I live in Vancouver BC, and I have my worksheet already from my Medical exam in Canada.

Since my interview at the consolate isn't until April, and I am driving across the border ever week or so doing wedding stuff, can I get my supplement sheet filled out in Washington while I am visiting down there before I have even crossed on my fiance visa?

I haven't found anything that says I need to have it dated after my POE, but I thought that I should throw this out there before I do it just in case.

I want to get as much paperwork ready for my AOS, so that after the wedding, we can just throw the marriage certificate into the envelope, and send it away.

  12. I just had my medical done today in Vancouver. My interview is scheduled for the end of April. It's a pretty fast to get interviews, and yes their e-mail skills are very good there!

Feel free to Personal Message me with any specific questions about Vancovuer.

Do you have your birth certificate yet? You need the large extended size, so if you haven't ordered it yet, order it now.

  13. If I haven't yet filed for my SSN, can I still send away my AOS paperwork? I may be getting a little bit ahead of myself, but I want to file for AP as soon as possible. We plan to get married the day after I enter the US, and then file AOS as soon as we get a copy of the marriage certificate. Can we do that if I don't yet have a SSN, or do we have to wait to apply for it, and then for them to send me the number in the mail, so that I can put my SSN on the I-485.

I am trying to rush things as my soon to be husband will need to come to Canada on business trips after we get married, and I will find it really hard to be left behind while he gets to visit my home without me!

I know that there is no guarantee, but if we file soon enough, AP might come in time.

Also, at the current time, we don't plan on my working in the US. Is there any reason why I need to apply for EAD if I don't plan on working anyway? Can I apply for a drivers license in California without an EAD?

    Thanks for your help everyone!

  14. Hmmm. Since I have no intention of working, I don't plan on collecting EI from Canada. I will be quiting my job here, and happily join my new husband in his life down there. Since he travels a lot (within the US) I will travel with him, and not work.

I need an EAD for getting a DL? Hmmm. Could I drive on my BC DL until I get my approval for AOS? It seems silly to pay yet another fee for something that I don't want to use anyway.

  15. I don't know why this is so difficult to understand. I have been reading posts and reading posts... Some people say that you must file AP with your AOS petition, and others say that people living in some states can file in person. If I live in California, can I file in person, or must I file with AOS?

Also, just to clairfy I do not need to file for papers to work (I think that it is called EAD) Unless I plan to work in the US right away, correct? If we plan on my US husband working, and me staying at home, then I don't need to file EAD and it will save me the cost of filing for it. Is that right?

  16. So when we are married in the US... How do I do this? County clerk? So if the wedding is in Washington state, and then we travel to LA where my fiance lives, do you know how I can do this?
