  1. Hello,

A friend of mine is here in the U.S. on a student visa. She would like to get married to a guy, who is a U.S. citizen. Her student visa expires in October 2019.

    1) What steps does she need to take after she gets married to stay in the U.S.?

    2) If she’s already married can she stay in the U.S. even if her student visa expires?

Thank you for your assistance in advance!!

  2. No. Old passport. Mine was issued in 2007.

Oh okay. It's the same with my fiancé. His passport was issued in 2008. So I guess he has to go through the same process too. Did you get an appointment with them after you received correspondence from the Consulate? Or did you go in with a copy of your NOA2?

  3. Its not easy. When i submitted at passport office i only needed passport copy and application form but after 2 weeks your local police department will contact you for inquiry and address verification. They asked me for lot of documents like birth certi, scholl leaving certi, driving licence, latest light bill, visa copy of all country u visited, police clearance from all coutryies u stayed for more than 6 months and many more.

Oh so you were applying for a new passport?

  4. Well my fiance did approach but they asked him get an appointment online. Which we don't mind because that's actually convenient for us. NVC has mailed me a letter with his info so we are waiting on that. Hopefully we'll receive it soon and he can go get his PCC.

  5. Yeah, I've heard it takes the most time in Gujarat. Other states are easier to get PCC. That's nice to hear your petition is in transit! :D When are you planning on scheduling the interview?

Phew! I'm getting butterflies in my tummy already. Well not sure yet about the interview date but planning the wedding almost in the end of November. So maybe some time before that. Hopefully everything will go smooth in GOD's will. ?

  6. Thank you for this info! That's what we were planning to do that take the checklist and also the copy of NOA2 to get the PCC because I've heard nightmares about it being obtained from Ahmedabad -_- Hopefully my fiance won't run into any problems.

On the bright side our petition is in transit to the US Consulate in Bombay/Mumbai

  7. Hello everyone :star:

So I called and received case number from NVC for our K1 visa petition. Our case is going to be assigned to the US Consulate in Bombay/Mumbai, India. It is currently at NVC. While we are waiting for some correspondence from NVC, we were thinking about obtaining a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC).

Here's my question: Will the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) in Ahmedabad, India, grant him a PCC just based on our NOA2 or do we have to wait for a letter from NVC? He obtained his passport back in 2007 and it has a validity of 4 years, I think.

    Any insight is much appreciated.

I hope you have a blessed day and a blessed weekend! :)

  8. Hello there,

Can anyone tell me if your petition (approved from 24 august to 29 august) has been sent out to NVC yet? I was approved on 28th august and did not hear anything from USCIS/ NVC yet. I am just concerned.

Hi, we have the same approval date and I haven't heard anything either. I spoke with someone in NVC yesterday and they said it's too soon. I need to call after two weeks at least, from my approval date which will be this Thursday. I'll call them again on Friday 9/12 and see if they've received it. Usually we should get an e-notification but I'll still call. Be ready to wait along time on hold when you call NVC though ?

Hope everything works out for you soon!

  9. I think it can take something like 2 weeks after noa2 before they even ship it. Usually (this is all based on what I've read) you can call & get your case # within 10 days of it being shipped. It's been over 10 since your noa2, right? There's always a possibility it was shipped & you haven't received a notice yet. Call the nvc after 9pm tonight to see. But I'd first check your case status on the uscis site. I know, waiting sucks. But you're ahead of me, anyway!

Ahha! I check the USCIS status few times everyday since I received my NOA2 ?? and finally this morningI got through NVC and they did say it's too soon. So I guess I'll just wait.

Btw I see your next post, so since I've received my NOA2 I should gather my Affidavit of Support info and send it to him?

  10. My soon to be sister-in-law got married back in February 2013 to a U. S. Citizen. She's an Indian national STILL living in India. She and her husband will celebrate their 18 month anniversary on the 23rd. The process on the U. S. side is slow as it is and even slower in India. Looking at their situation, my fiance (her brother), and I decided to go K-1 Visa route and now our petition is stuck in Texas Service Center ?
