  1. Hi all,

Wanna thank VJ for how much help they have been!

I'm applying for a K1, have received my interview date and am just now collecting documents. I've found the whole process unnecessarily cryptic! But whatever, I'll get there.

My question is thus - my appointment date is 28th July, I'll be ready well before then however and was wondering, has anyone had any success asking for an earlier appointment?

I'm pretty sure I don't qualify for an emergency appointment, and wouldn't risk that anyway, but is it possible to call/email and request an earlier appointment if there is a cancellation? Do people cancel these things?

Any success with any embassy appreciated, much love if it's Sydney embassy.

    Cheers!

  2. Hi,

My USA partner received his NOA2 a few weeks back, and the approved I-129F for a K1 visa has arrived at the US embassy in Sydney. He received an email to forward to me asking for my case number and to setup an account on the embassy website.

Problem is, I have no idea what this case number is or when/where I was supposed to get it.

    Help!

  3. My partner in the USA is a low income earner (11$ an hour fulltime) and as he had been living in australia with me last year, doesnt have a years worth of taxable income to show on his W-2 (he has about 9 months worth).

I was planning to get him to do me an affadavit of support, but am wondering should I also get his father (who is pretty wealthy/stable) to do one as well? Or will they only accept one, in which case, which should I do?

    Cheers!

  4. Hi,

Quick bit of advice needed. My passport expires Dec 2015, now I remember last september when I filed my I-129F for a K1 visa, it said you need a passport with at least 6 months on it. Given that its taken till now to get the NOA2, I'm worried I wont have 6 months left by the time I get to interview.

Should I get my passport renewed ASAP? Will that change the document number or otherwise interfere with my visa application? Or should I keep my current passport? I have 1.5 months before I reach the 6 months.

Also, my partner has the NOA2 but hasn't sent it to me yet. I want to get things ready but aren't sure what the requirements are, and havnt had much success looking for a guide. Visajourneys K1 guide was extremely helpful for filling out I-129F but Im a bit lost on when/if I need police certificates, when I get a medical, who I send the next form to or contact? I realise my partner needs to send me an affadavit of support(I think I'll get his father to do one as well?) but is there a good guide as to what comes next?

If anyones interested we went through the Texas service center, I-129F recieved 1st September 2014, NOA2 recieved 20th april 2015

    Cheers!

  5. Everyone has been so helpful! Got majorly depressed looking at http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1historical but I can survive 4-5 months I guess :/

If I get the I-129F off ASAP, then at least we are only looking at 2-4 months apart. Really wanted to visit America for a big convention in December, I've read that can be iffy without being prepared while a K-1 is being processed!

I'm sure his parents will co-sponsor with him, and since we don't need to get the I-134 form until the interview, that should give him time to pick up a job.

Thanks everyone, given me lots to think about.

  6. Hi all,

Brand new to the forum and to this whole visa process! Been with my same-sex partner for 2 years but we have been living between Australia and the UK as the only places with acceptable visa conditions (at the time). As we're now at a point where we want to get married, we are looking to go back to my partners home in Florida (I'm Australian).

I've been reading all the requisite information and think I've got a good handle on it except for three immediate questions that popped up.

    1) It says your US fiancé has to provide an I-134 when you go to adjust status from k1 to k3. I'm the usual breadwinner in this relationship, and as we've been living in Australia, my partner does not have a US job (or address). Will his parents be able to sponsor me on an I-134, or does it have to be my US fiancé as it states? Will he need to go back to America without me and get a job before I begin my application? Or is it safe to apply before he gets one? (Hopefully in the 1-2 months before we actually get married he will get a job, but nothing is certain in this world! (He has no qualifications, and used to work a minimum wage retail job).

    2) We are both currently in Australia. My partner flies back to the US in September and I was hoping to get the visa before then to go with him (any chance of that?). It says the I-129F cannot be submitted at a US consulate/embassy abroad. Does that mean he can't mail the application to Texas USCIS from Australia right now? Does he have to be in the US when he launches that application? Or can we mail it now, so that I can do the interview part in Australia sooner.

    3) Any problems with using his parents address in Florida, as that is likely where we will be staying until we are married and I have a job. I know you don't need to be in a state which permits same-sex marriage, you just have to go to one to actually perform the ceremony (is that right?). So using our florida address in the application should be fine?

Anyone had any experience getting hold of police records from the UK or Australia? I have passports for both countries and spent four years in the UK, never done anything wrong so should be good to go so long as I can sort out this I-134 business!

Thanks a lot for the advice!
