Two days after I posted, we actually got the text/email saying our case was approved. It's been such a long time, now we have to reread all of the tips for the next part of the process.
To anyone still waiting, stay strong!
-
Man, this wait really does take a toll on people - myself included! Hang in there, everyone.
We got our NOA1 on August 29, 2014. I know a lot of people have been waiting even longer than that. Stay positive, keep pestering!
-
August filer here! NOA1 came on 8/29.
Have any of you noticed the VJ estimate jumping closer and closer to now?
October 20th it said "Based on timeline data, your I129f may be adjudicated between December 21, 2014 and January 27, 2015*. "
It's moved up so much (a few days to a month every day since), it now says: "Based on timeline data, your I129f may be adjudicated between November 7, 2014 and December 12, 2014*."
Not that I would complain if this were true
, but I have read all over that these are wildly inaccurate
. I am just wondering how many approvals must have happened to push our estimate from Jan-Feb to Nov-Dec, and if anyone else has seen their estimates running towards the present?
-
Anything positive happening to any august filer's petition. Of course aside beneficiaries from Philippines because they seem to be automatically expedited due to the hurricane in the country.
Canada (him) and USC (me) here. Nothing from USCIS, but the timeline here on VJ.com is telling me my approx. adjudication is going to be December/January rather than January/February!
I know it isn't official, but it brightened our day a bit!

It's cool seeing some of the ideas here - I really like the journal. I feel like it will be great for you to look back on when you are together.
Until Vin moved from Montreal, we were doing a lot of Skype and facebook chats. I thought about starting a blog about the journey until we could live together, but he found a great opportunity to move closer and that was that. I do feel really lucky that he got a job offer.
To everyone who has decided that they want to have a "my life is worse" contest, you win! Sorry for posting, from now on I'll just stick to the FAQs.

msbau764: I am sorry if I came across as privileged and not grateful. I really am super happy that we get to see each other, and I feel terrible that not everyone has the luck of geography that we do. There are factors that make it hard, still - like we both work late into the evening, averaging about 4 hours of being awake together when we do see each other - but in no way would I count myself with the people who genuinely have it rough in the process. It is just, as you said, that "limbo" feeling.
Regardless, though, we're all waiting for it together, and I am just interested in what other people do to pass the time
Sorry if I offended, and double sorry for the way the last post came out!
LoveinGhana: Thanks for the wishes, and I wish a quick approval for you as well! The Texas service center is just so slow, but who knows? Maybe we'll all luck out and get transferred! *undying optimism*
-
sorry, no sympathy here. you live 30 minutes away. others cannot see their SO for months, sometimes up to a year.
Sorry, I didn't want sympathy. I just figured talking about how others are passing the time could be a nice thing to do, but once again VJ (while very informative) seems to be a "whose life is harder" contest.
Edit: Sounded waaay meaner than I meant it to sound.

I probably shouldn't talk about driving, in case he sees this... I am a typical "get there ASAP" New York driver, he is the "it's a speed LIMIT" kinda person...
But I can imagine!
-
...and it's only been 2 months. Sorry if this is a silly post (or if it is in the wrong place - is there a "Waiting Forever" forum?), but what have others done to pass the time between K1 NOA1 and NOA2?
Vin and I live about 30 minutes from each other (Niagara Falls ON/Buffalo NY) so we can see each other every day, but man it would be nice to just live together.

There is actually a really fantastic app that Vincent and I used for our application. The app is called "Message Saver" and the logo is a red chat bubble thing.
Here is a link to their page (not the app itself): https://www.facebook.com/MessageSaver
It looks kinda sketchy, but we used it and it was super straightforward and easy, plus it was free. The problem with the FB archive, is that it only saves 10000 messages or something.
Best of luck!

Here is our package:
http://imgur.com/4cvElin (The photo is too big to post in the thread itself... oops!)
We are sending as soon as we can (tomorrow if we find a good shipper, but it is Sunday...)
This is terrifying and exciting at once! Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts, for the direct and indirect help you've given us these last few months. We know there is a ton more work to do, but the first step is really finally finished!
Best,
Kevin and Vincent (I am sure we'll be back with more questions soon...)
-
Thank you for the quick answers, all. We will explore our options!
-
Hello all! First, I want to say THANK YOU for answering most of our questions before we even posted, and even more for answering the questions we have asked! Can you tell we are filing super soon, with all of these questions coming up?
Anywho - we plan on filing by the end of the week, have everything in order and just going over a lot of forms/getting conversations and such printed. I was wondering if there is a way for him to continue working at his job in St. Catharines, since we are so close to the border (Buffalo/Niagara Falls area). Advance Parole seems to be for a non-US citizen spouse, if I read correctly, so I guess that wouldn't be the right choice.
Are there any alternatives where he would not have to wait so long to return to Canada (in this case, for his job)? His desire is to transfer to a US company eventually, but it wouldn't hurt to keep working while he is waiting on EAD or his Green Card if possible.
Sorry if this is unclear, please allow me to clarify if needed!
Thanks again!
Kevin
(edit) P.S. - We will both have Nexus (Trusted Traveler program for Canada/US) before he gets here, I am not sure if that changes anything!
Thanks!

I am filling out my G-325a (I am the US citizen petitioning for my fiancé). I have a kinda confusing address history, though, having been in school from 2008 - 2012.
My dad's address functioned as my "permanent address" (on my license, according to my university, etc.). But I lived in dorms and an apartment during that time, too, with some mail coming to those addresses (job related stuff, credit card bills, etc.). So should I attach an addendum, or just list official addresses?
My address timeline (not giving my real addresses):
Dad's address 1 ("Permanent address" on permit/license): June 1993 - November 2010
Dad's address 2 ("Permanent address" on renewed license, did not ever physically live there): Jan 2010 - October 2013 (changed my address to current apartment)
Dorm 1: August 2008 - May 2009
Dorm 2: August 2009 - July 2010
Apartment 1: August 2010 - July 2012
Apartment 2 (made a "Permanent address" on license October 2013): July 2012 - Present
Sorry if that is confusing, I just honestly don't know what to put! :/

Oh, to clarify my question though - I wasn't talking about when I should HAVE the wedding, but when we can start planning it. Like, for instance, picking a date.
When do you think it is ok to finally be like "Ok, let's pick a date for our big wedding ceremony and reception"? Sorry if I was unclear!
-
Wow, thanks for all the help! I understood what JIJourney meant (don't wait for NOA2, wait longer than that - got it). Thanks for clarifying though, sweetswinks.
So I suppose we will worry about the visa for 2014/1st half of 2015, and the wedding planning can come later. Again, thanks to both of you for the replies!!
-
So forgive me if this is a super silly question (or if there are a lot of threads about it), but I want to hear some stories!
My fiancé and I are in the throes of wedding planning, but the idea that we could pick a date that is before his approval or too late AFTER the approval is terrifying!
So what did y'all do?
We were thinking, ideally, we'd apply in August 2014 and be able to get married (or "married," as in venues, flowers, cake but maybe not legally, lawfully, sign the certificate yet if the visa isn't ready yet) in June 2015. We are looking at a venue when he visits this weekend. Is it possible to have a "ceremony" and reception of sorts, and then get "married" after? Or vice versa? Should we just wait until the petition is approved?
As if wedding planning weren't already insane enough...

Wow, thank you all so much for the answers!!!
We're excited to take the next step - and I am grateful that VJ is such an awesome community

I proposed to my boyfriend on June 17, 2014. Our anniversary is May 16... 2014. We met in person for the first time March 1, 2014. We spoke for the first time February 22, 2014.
We're both more sure about this than anything, but we are a little worried that the speed of the relationship may raise a red flag in regards to immigration. Some info:
- No criminal record for either of us
- He is a citizen of Canada (born and raised around Montreal), I am from New York (living in Buffalo).
- We both have traveled to each others' countries quite a bit before meeting one another
- He competes in the US for winter guard (a dance activity, and how we met)
- I live in Buffalo and go to Niagara Falls for fun (Clifton Hill, Casino - normally just there for the evening)
- We plan on applying for a k-1 visa by the end of August 2014 (when he is done touring in the US with his team)
- Between April 23 and our application, we will have visited one another at least 10 times (him coming here mostly, about 70/30)
- He is moving to Ontario in August after his tour
- I did buy a ring, he has worn it since my proposal
- We are both 24
- I meet and surpass the 125% poverty level for a married couple and could support both of us in the event it took him a while to find work (unlikely, he's one of those blessed people
)
- We've told our family and friends, and have many pictures of us together
- Aforementioned family and friends are super excited and supportive
Not sure if I am forgetting anything - I am just looking to see if anyone else has experienced or heard anything about a whirlwind relationship like this getting approval, or if they will deny us because we haven't been together very long.
Thanks and looking forward to lurking on VJ more openly!!
Kevin
AUGUST 2014 K-1 FILERS (TSC)
in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports
Posted
So my post office assumed I moved for some reason, and my NOA2 notice was returned to USCIS... I called and emailed, and they are sending another (now that the post office knows I haven't moved) and hopefully after that everything can proceed as normal.
Hopefully I don't have to wait another 9 months this time
