  1. Our visa got approved yesterday! I (chilean citizen) had my interview in Santiago and everything went pretty well. I was asked the typical questions (where/how we met, how many times we've seen each other, plans in the US and that's it.) There weren't many people and it probably took me 50 minutes to go through everything. I should have the passport in a couple of days and I'm planning on travelling in early July. Our wedding is on July 18. Best wishes to everyone on this topic :)

  2. We got mail today (date March 31) from the DOS telling us that our case was ready to be forwarded to the embassy in Chile. This letter also included the case number. We were planning on calling next week to get the three numbers but now we don't know if we should or not. What are the invoice and beneficiary numbers for? Is it necessary to get them or should be able to track everything with the case number? Thanks in advance!

  3. We have a question. We've done everything based on the K1 step-by-step guide on Visa Journey, which never mentions anything about calling the NVC. I see a lot of a people call them, and get a case number ... but our question is, why? what for? is it necessary? I hope anyeone can help us.

Just in case, our NOA1 is August 27th 2014, NOA2 March 6th 2015, and case sent to NVC on March 17th, 2015.

  4. August wedding sounds almost impossible, unfortunately. :( And we can relate to you because we also had everything planned and had to make adjustments recently.

We submitted our petition/got NOA1 in late August 2014, and set a wedding date for mid-April 2015 considering the processing time wasn't supposed to be longer than 5/6 months. Unfortunately, TSC is very slow and they're still processing June/July cases. IF we're lucky, we may get a NOA2 in late February/March, so a few weeks ago we decided to move the wedding to July.

I know they tell you not to plan anything before getting a visa but honestly 90 days to book everything is a little too crazy, so if you want to just go ahead, be prepared for at least an 8 month process and plan around that.

  5. I know it's not on the list, but just in case someone has tried it before. Does anyone know if having a wedding planned (with everything that that involves aka videographer, photographer, cake, reception place rental, etc) is a reason for a case to be expedited? I ask because we submitted the petition in late August (no NOA2 yet) so that we would have enough time (more than the 6 month period for a normal processing time) to get married in late April. I know there's still time for us to be approved even if TSC is very slow, but I'm just wondering.

  6. Hey all!

As my finace and I start this crazy process of the K-1 visa, we are so grateful for all the information in this site and forums! Thanks in advance :)

We are filling out his (alien fiance) G-325a form. He is currently in the USA with me on a tourist visa, and will be when we file the petition. Thus he has no job. Should we last his most recent employment (which ended a few days ago when we left Chile) on the first line of the "Applicant's Employment in the last 5 years. List present employment first" section even though it says to "present"? If not, what should we write instead?

    Thanks!
