I’m sure this has been asked (I think) but I’m too lazy to go back and read ...I got approved end of July, received my green card August 4, today I got a 18 month extension letter with date from the 11th. I’m sure this is one of the many Stupid things Uscis is doing now but wanted to make sure
Same thing happened to us. Right hand doesn't know what the left is doing - trickle down Trump incompetence.

Our automatic 1-year extension letter has now expired (over a month ago). We have a trip abroad scheduled for this October. We are starting to get concerned, given all the ####### this administration is pulling on the border. Don't want my wife stuck without her kids. Anyone have a sense of where things are?

Today I had an infopass appointment as my wife's GC extension letter is expiring in a month.
The clerk confirmed California is super backlogged (as we all know) and hinted that there are more interviews than normal taking place, adding to the backlog.
They also said that if we make another appointment and my wife comes with her passport they can stamp it adding another year of viability while we wait for the 10 year card to process.

We probably will not do so.

We had no trouble coming back from Japan with the letter and green card. The agent did have to ask someone else if it was ok (they don't all seem to know) but they confirmed and it was fine.

July 2016 filers? Won't their 1 year extensions be just about up by now?

Just like every other part of this process, YMMV :-)

No. Even if she comes, she can't go with you to the desk, she'd have to sit in the waiting area.
Not necessarily true for every location. I was with my spouse the entire time, including standing centimeters away while the fingerprinting was done.

We don't check the snail mail here all that often... Bio appointment NOA postmarked March 15th lol, appointment is next week.

Ah got it - thanks!

Once you have the bio letter in hand, what is the point of going online to check on status of the bio appt lol

I was using the WAC from noa1. The website explicitly says:
"The receipt number is a unique 13-character identifier that USCIS provides for each application or petition it receives. The agency uses it to identify and track its cases.
The receipt number consists of three letters-for example, EAC, WAC, LIN, SRC, NBC, MSC or IOE-and 10 numbers. You can find it on notices of action USCIS has sent you." -
Hmm website is still saying my WAC number is invalid/can't be found, despite having gotten noa1 around the same time as others.

Yay! All the best. Let's keep each other updated.
Mailed in to CSC on February 29th, received March 2, NOA/1 year extension received by the 9th.
But when I pop my receipt number in at uscis.gov I get:
Validation Error(s)
You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:- My Case Status does not recognize the receipt number entered. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.

Ours should arrive to the CSC tomorrow (3/2/17).

Sounds good - I'm not finding info on how to extend that though - is it through uscis?

She is under her boss' e2 visa - my understanding is that she is "manager level" and is here for 5 years... and passport expiration is in 2019
-
Hi all,
My mother in law is here on a 5 year work visa... however the other day when we went to help her get a drivers license the dmv pointed out that her passport entry is stamped February 2014 and under "until" it's written February 2016... so the license would only be issued with a validity period of 2 years.
I'm assuming that this means that although the visa is good for 2 years, upon entry she gets an initial status period of 2 years - and then she needs to do some kind of extension from here in the states?
-
Thanks very much Jan - definitely planning to look into that. Much appreciated!
-
Thanks guys - certainly not looking for illegal options.
Can she transition from the existing managerial visa to an E2 investor directly without leaving the country? I'm assuming there is a fairly significant financial investment for this option?
Thanks again!

My mother in law is finishing up her first year of an E2 managerial visa (5 years). The company is unsurprisingly working her incredibly long hours for extremely low pay and my wife and I are of course concerned about her at her age.
She is going to move in with us and I am wondering what the potential options are as far as working it out for her to stay without this particular job - my wife is very much looking forward to her assistance following the impending birth of our twins (although right now we are concerned that she won't have any time to help/will be exhausted due to the work schedule).
I assume that when my wife potentially gets her citizenship a few years down the road this would become a non-issue, but wondering if there is something we could consider in a shorter timeframe.
I currently run my own small business, technology related. My wife is considering a few different options for boutique-y shops catering specifically to the neverending everspending throngs of Japanese tourists that flock here, so perhaps there is something there given the need for Japanese fluency and cultural understanding.
Just thought I'd throw it out there and see what the thoughts are - thanks in advance!

in Working & Traveling During US Immigration
Posted
Hi all,
My wife has a 10-year GC and a 2 year reentry permit expiring next year. We have been back and forth between the US and Japan a number of times since receiving the re-entry permit. She has an ill relative that we have been assisting, and it has been easier to have the kids in school in japan (not in public japanese school, in private school). We would like to process one more re-entry permit to continue to assist - it is unlikely a longer period will be needed.
How long before the existing re-entry permit expires is it recommend to apply for the second one? How long are they taking to get approved these days? I assume that if more convenient, we could use the online rescheduler to change her biometrics appointment (if needed again?) to Guam?
Thank you.
