  1. My husband got his visa last week and has been in the states for a week now!!! So big thank you to everyone on this forum for helping with the process and answering questions! My husband has worked in the states before on a work visa and was issued a social security number and card which says valid for work only. Will he need a new SS card since he's here on a different visa now?

  2. Yay so glad we both got interviews!!! We just scheduled his medical and they are doing it over 2 days: one day for xrays and blood work, the second day for physical check. Then back to Jo'burg in a couple weeks for the interview. So excited!

    Congrats to you!

Ah, yes, me too! We're so close to this all being over with. And I looked last night on DHL and I saw a package to SA sent out Wednesday and another one sent out Thursday so maybe those are our packages! Hope the interview goes well for y'all!

  3. Yayy so happy for everyone! We got the interview today as well! We had already scheduled the medical just in case a few weeks ago and it's perfect timing for the interview since it'll take 10-14 days for the Dr. to send the medical files to the embassy. So medical on April 29th then interview May 12th and hopefully POE May 21st!!!!

  4. I've been calling NVC for the past hour. I've gotten through 3 times without having to call over and over again, and put on hold, but each time, the line goes dead and my call is dropped. Is anyone else having a problem like this?

Yeah I had that problem Wednesday. It dropped about 3 or 4 times as well but I waited about 5 minutes then called again and waited until the end of the prompt each time to press the number and finally it didn't drop that time.

  5. We're practically twins!! I sure do hope so but not really sure what to expect bc like you said, not a lot of data for SA embassy. I'm the US citizen and my husband is the SA citizen. He is coming to visit me next week.....so he can get all the original paperwork (don't trust the mail haha). Finally feeling like were seeing the light at the end of the tunnel but after being apart this long I'd rather wait the last bit out together.

Good luck to you! Will make sure I keep the thread updated with any news.

I'm the US citizen and my husband is the SA citizen as well! Ah yeah I forgot to bring the original marriage certificate with me when I visited him in February so now I have to mail it which I'm nervous about seeing as only half the stuff I've mailed has reached the final destination haha. I know what you mean. It's so close but I don't think I'll let myself get too excited until he has his visa in hand. Such a roller coaster ride with USCIS, NVC and also the SA Home Affairs haha. Good luck to you too!

  6. Each day I'm getting a little more anxious wondering if I did everything right on my package. Especially seeing how more and more checklists are popping up. I keep redoing everything over and over in my head making sure I got every box and line. Nothing I can do now but just sit back and wait. What have you gotten your checklist for? And was it something you were surprised about, something stupid, etc?

And is it still another 60 days to wait after you send in the corrections?

  7. Has anyone had any luck calling NVC inquiring about your case once you sent in your IV and AOS packages and gotten a shorter processing time instead of the 60 days? I know the 60 day rule isn't the exact number and some people have gotten their approval in less than that such as 52 days. Will the NVC look at your case quicker if you keep calling or if you talk to a Level 2 Supervisor? Im not expecting an unrealistic super fast approval but even 10 days faster would help us. Thanks everyone.

  8. I'm filling out I-864 EZ as I answered all the questions yes to qualify but when I get to question 19 where it has a check box that says I have filed a Federal tax return for the past 3 years. The problem is I've only filed for the past 2 years because those are the only years I've worked. Will I need to file the I-864 now or keep on with the I-864 EZ??

  9. My husband and I are wanting to travel throughout South America after we send in everything for NOA2 at the NVC. We are wanting for him to be able to fly into the States from wherever we are in South America after he gets approved but that won't be able to work if he has to have his interview in Johannesburg. He lives in South Africa. Is there any way to get an interview in another country?
