  1. I got my approval letter last week. It's definitely more than a year since I filed the application around August 15, 2016. Now I'm waiting for the card.

Btw, my case status nrv updated since they received my application. The only update I got is they notified me they received the application and sent me the NOA letter.

I was so frustrated abt the waiting, but there is nothing I can do abt it. Then I finally made my peace with it around May. Now I finally got it.

I would say as long as you have a bonafide marriage, you will be just fine. I'll wish all the best to fellows who haven't gotten the approval letter.

  2. Green Card in Hand

A side story along with Green Card.

I got USCIS updates, and finally got the tracking number yesterday. It said deliver yesterday! I was very happy about that.

I got up early this morning, check again, it said the mail was in regional post office sorting process, couple mins later it showed that the mail is out of delivery.

Then I WAITED COUPLE HOURS, then i saw the mailman's car in front of our building. So I think the mail is gonna be delivered any mins.

A few mins later, the tracking site updated that the mail has been delivered. I went downstairs to check my mail box.

#######, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? It's ducking empty. I start to worry about it. (I read too much stories from forums that mail lost, never came....)

I thought mailman might put my mail in the wrong mailbox. I was so ducking worried about that !

Anyway, long story short, I called local office, explain what happen, then they said they are gonna find out who are delivering my mail, then call me back.

Half hour later, I saw mailman's car was about parking in front of our apartment. I just went to downstairs to meet him. He has my mail, he never actually delivered my mail. He gave the mail to me, and made some stupid excuse.

I also saw he had other mails in hand. So i guess he was just parking the car in front our building, never even get out to deliver anything, then he update the tracking information, then he left. He got busted because my phone call to the regional office.

I was POLITE STILL, well, I could understand he tried to finish work early on saturday.

In the end, GREEN CARD IN HAND.

    Very Happy!!!!

  3. I would say do whatever you want, courthouse, or church. It's your wedding. Whatever you want would be just as great as it could be, don't compromise your wedding because Interview.

Make your decision, then proceed, for example, you could book a date on the church if you prefer a church wedding. Start to apply for marriage license, you can make a online appointment for marriage license. I knew NYC does that, not sure for other places.

Anyway you have to apply for marriage license first, then chose your wedding place, make it happen, then you will get your marriage certificate.

Congratulations! Nice to meet other same sex couple here !

  4. DS-260 is not filed by someone that is adjusting status in the US. You appear to be filing for a spousal visa. There is a different forum here on VJ about that. > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/134-ir-1-cr-1-spouse-visa-case-filing-and-progress-reports/

OP> Congrats on your green card approval!

~ Moved from AOS from Family Based Visas to AOS from Work, Student & Tourist Visas Progress Reports - topic is case status/OP not adjusting from a family based visa ~

    Thanks! LOL!

  5. awesome I have a question is it a thousand dallar one we are in this stage you just received ... Im tring to be ready for this stage once they say you are approved .......

I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, Yes, that's about 1 thousand dollar.

I SENT ALL THE FORMS TOGETHER. AND THEY ALL GOT APPROVED.

SUPPOSEDLY, I-130 SHOULD BE SENT FIRST, $420 ONE. THEN YOU GOT APPROVED, THEN FILE I-485, $1070 ONE.

IT DOES NOT REALLY HAVE A ORDER IF YOU FILE ALL THE FORMS TOGETHER.

  6. LAST FRIDAY, ME AND MY HUSBAND HAD THE INTERVIEW.

THE INTERVIEW OFFICER DID A STOKES INTERVIEW. I WAS QUITE SURPRISED, BUT WE DID PREPARE THAT SITUATION.

ANYWAY, IO DID SEPARATE INTERVIEWS TO MY HUSBAND AND I. MY HUSBAND FIRST, THEN ME.

HE SAID HE WILL RECOMMEND THIS CASE TO BE APPROVED. I WAS SO HAPPY. THEN HE STARTED TO SAY SOMETHING ABOUT GREEN CARD, HOW TO MOVE THE CONDITION, WHEN TO DO THAT, COLLECTING MORE EVIDENCES OF BONAFIDE MARRIAGE AND ECT.

I was very excited, so i didn't really listen to him, well I knew what he was talking about, and I can check the procedures of moving condition from VJ too, so i didn't pay much attention to the end.

Until I sitted in the car, then I just realized I left the original bank statement on the IO's desk, both copy and original, which upset me very much. And more important WHAT ON EARTH IS RECOMMEND TO APPROVE, WHAT IS THAT???!!!!

THEN I GOT REALLY NERVOUS ABOUT THAT. I READ STORY FROM ALL KINDS OF WEBSITE ABOUT RECOMMEND TO APPROVE, SOME STORY REALLY SCARED ME.

After that i got really upset by that TOO. the whole weekend BECAME VERY STRESSFUL TO ME. But one good thing was I got SSN card on saturday.

This morning I was woke up by phone message, then it just illuminated my hope immediately. I got off the bed, then check. OMG, OMG, OMG! USCIS CASE STATUS UPDATE.

THEN I TURN ON MY COMPUTER TO CHECK, HERE IT IS.

On October 6, 2014, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before receiving your card, please call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

COUPLE MINS LATER I GOT ANOTHER ONE,

On October 6, 2014, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

SO I GUESS WE PASSED IT. LOL, WE DID PASS THE INTERVIEW, AND GOT APPROVED.

  7. Do not provide additional documents at the interview to the officer without making sure of the content and validity of the information presented -Clients tend to compile paperwork and throw it at the officers at the time of the interview without checking carefully the paperwork submitted. For example: One client submitted all the supporting documents in support of the marriage, not realizing some of the bills submitted had a previous roommate’s name on it.Go through every single piece of paper before submitting to the officer.Any documents without your joint names on it are really not necessary to the case.

I read it here, It might help,http://www.h1b.biz/lawyer-attorney-1213338.html

  8. my bad mood comes about from folk who chase a SSN, getting a case of 'tempus fugit' and never going back the next day, after applying.

Seriously, DHS Verification label is the kiss of death, for a K-1 visa holder (are you one?) if any SSA clerk uses that label in a sentence to you.

It will delay the SS-5 - usually to a point circa 110 to 145 days past the POE. Who wants that ? really, who ?

    Thanks for your advice again.

I'm not k-1 visa holder. And i didn't change my name after marriage either.

It has a reference # on the letter, which they gave it to me after i applied SSN. I told the officer the #, they said that DHS accept it, it might take 2 weeks before i actually get the card. That is what exactly they told me over the phone.

  9. not go into office? physically arrive? sorry, I cannot explain what I've written to you, perhaps another human can try.

    OK, Thank you.

I have that feeling you are being unfriendly to me. Tell me if I'm wrong.

I do appreciate your advice seriously. And I respect your opinions on this, you might be a expert.

But you don't need to be mad at me simply because i didn't do what you told me to. I chose what i think it's best for me.

You might right about this, but I have nothing wrong if I chose a different approach.

I'm gonna just assume you are having a bad mood or whatever reason it is.

  10. ok - so you have the 'kiss of death' - the DHS Verification Process.

    Congratuations ! [or apologies]

    - For K-1 visa holders -

Usually if have a problem, learn on next day after applying,

    and usually learn it's:

    1. oopsies - applied in married name or

    2. oopsies - visa name and SAVE database record for name are 'off' , some misspelling or

    3. oopsies - A# is off, compared to what's in VISA versus SAVE database.

for 2 and 3 - can fix at local CBP office, then re-apply in a week at SSA office. Any one of these will trigger a DHS Verification process, and for a K-1 visa holder, no one has the luxury to wait about it, SSA usually flips the application to 'closed' because of the I-94 already expiring.

But for 1? man - that's just wrong. Please, no one, none of you gentle readers, do that.

What? !!!! Have no idea what you are talking about.

What do you exactly mean by "kiss of death"? They said nothing wrong with my application, it's just a bit slow. And that's it.

What do you apologize for ? How come? Do you mean I should apologize ? I'm sorry, but i found your words are very confusing. Could you ELI5?

    Call them again friday ;)

OK, just make sure everything is alright.
