Sounds to me like this person changed her legal name on her marriage certificate.
I'm confused by this statement. My marriage certificate shows my maiden name (my name as the party entering into the marriage) and as such, I signed it with my maiden name. On the notarized copy of the marriage certificate it shows the same information as described above (i.e. not designating which name I use in practice).
Is my marriage certificate not the norm from the 'usual'? (I've only been married the once so have no basis for comparison.
)Anyway, it's still weird to me, as my maiden name is still my legal name, and the married name I use is also legal (through the legal marriage). I can and have used both. To make my maiden name 'defunct' as a legal name I would have to have my birth certificate amended and go through a legal name change in Canada.
And the OP isn't changing her name, simply using the one she's had all along. So why does she lose the privilege to use it?

On the Arkansas marriage license, the statement goes, "Mr. Husband and M. Wife (my maiden name)." On the license application, I signed my maiden name too.
Arkansas DMV doesn't take SSN or Translated foreign Birth Certificate as ID. The lady first asked for my GC, which of course I didn't have back in February, and then she only wanted my passport and marriage license. She didn't want EAD either, saying it didn't prove anything.
The reason I can't go back and not say anything about being married is because they put my married name on the permit. DMV issues the permit but Revenue office issues the license. I'm thinking about going back to DMV and asked to change the name on the permit back to my maiden name. I hope the corrected GC will arrive in time so I can have another ID. It is frustrating but I'll try till it's done.

Since all your documents are in your maiden name and you are applying with that name how/why did being married even come up?

I came back hoping I could find some info regarding the women's right to retain their maiden name but so far nothing has happened.

I just have a quick question about the directions to the memphis office for my aos interview. I heard somewhere on here that the directions to memphis aren't right that they are exactly opposite to what they give you. The question is are the directions oppositte of the address that they sent on my form or on what map quest might tell me? I was going to type in the address in mapquest and forgot I heard about something like this so I wasn't sure .... I just want to know if the mapquest directions are going to be right or are they the ones that are opposite than what they give you? If anyone knows it would be great help

Traveling West: Take interstate 40 West to Exit 12A (Summer Avenue). At traffic light located at the bottom of the exit ramp, turn left onto Summer Avenue. Approximately ¼ mile east (across from the Summer Twin Drive-in) is the Mapco Station. Turn right at the Mapco Stations onto Virginia Run Cove.
Traveling East: Take I-40 East toward Nashville. Take the US-64/White Station Rd/US-70/US-79 exit- Exit 12A- toward Summer Ave. Turn left onto N. White Station Rd. If you knew you were leaving the country so soon after your interview you should have asked for the I-551 stamp in your passport.... to leave without your Greencard was risky... what would you have done if it had got lost in the mail??? I have had to wait 6 months for a replacement after mine got lost in the mail.... EAD and AP are void once your approval has been granted... it was not a case of you left on AP and got approved without interview while you were gone... I would show your AP and Greencard at point of entry and explain what has happened...

actually my husband asked the interviewing officer whether i could use AP back and forth before i received my green card. his answer was positive so i didn't ask for a stamp. but we didn't ask him whether i could use it once i got the real card.
after reading your kind posts, i'm leaning towards using AP back without showing my green card. i knew a woman who had the same error as mine and thought it wasn't a big problem. it turned out she was stopped at POE and sent back to China till she got her green card corrected. compared to the risk of getting caught on AP, this would probably get worse.
I'll wait to mail back my green card though, in case they got me at POE...do i have any other choice?

my green card was approved on May 2 and the card arrived on 11th. but i went back to China right after the interview and the card was brought to me by my friend today. i found my birth country was wrong and i know it'll take months to get the card replaced. i'm still in China and can't get the passport stamped. i still have my AP, can i use it to go back to America? as my job starts next month and i've already got my tickets booked.
the same error happened to my EAD and i thought they would have fixed it on the green card. but...no!
can anyone help me? thank you

I did a walk-in biometrics in the local office three weeks ago because I hadn't got any bio letter within 90 days processing time. I got it done, fortunately, and got my EAD card a week later. Today, I got the real bio letter asking me to appear in another local office and do biometrics for AOS&EAD the day after tomorrow. I figure I don't have to go but still feel nervous about it. That bold line on the letter IF YOU FAIL TO APPEAR AS SCHEDULED, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED ABANDONED got me.
I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions? I appreciate it.
