I checked off both (we submitted all three years).
Although it's not required at NVC, the embassy/consulate may want to see all three years, so it's better to just send it now beforehand.
If you're going to be qualifying on assets, don't forget, it has to be 3 times the poverty line as assets are only worth 1/3. And be warned, you'll likely get a checklist from NVC saying something in the regards of you not qualifying as a sponsor and the embassy/consulate will ultimately decide if you qualify. You don't need to send anything to NVC in response to the checklist, it's more just a warning from them.
Thank you so much for your quick response! I will include all 3 years
We are all set with the assets thanks for the reminder and yes i did hear that same thing about the checklist from an NVC rep. "if" thats the only item on my checklist, will we then be put in line for an interview?
Everything is all set to be sent tomorrow...The only thing i am unsure about is the N/A or to leave blanks on the questions i didn't not need to respond to "checklist situation". What is the current consensus?
We filled out the I-864 and I did fill out all of the address lines as it was needed anyways. Is this still just an issue on the EZ form? As of now I left blanks.
Confusing!!! Any advice is super appreciated!!

Hello!
Im going to submit my AOS package tomorrow! (Yes i need to update my timeline, I paid the AOS fee this afternoon, I will do it soon)
If providing all three years of transcripts do I mark part 6 Q 13 and Q14 or only 14 and leave 13 unchecked??
13:i have filed a federal tax return for each of the three most recent tax years. I have attached the required photocopy or transcript of my tax return for only the most recent tax year.
14:(optional) i have attached transcripts of my tax returns for my second and third most recent tax years.
What is the benefit of giving all 3 years?
I only meet the poverty guideline in 2011 as i am abroad my current income is 0.00. I will prove sponsorship with assets. Any advice?

Sorry, but you're misunderstanding the wiki as I stated no where you can do that. If you send both packages together, each has their own respective bar-coded cover sheet. Right now, since there's a ~30 business day delay between filling out the DS-261 and getting the IV bill invoiced, sending both packages together is not smart as you'll have to wait close to 2 months (from when you're able to send the AOS package) before you can send the IV package. So, until time frames go down (if ever), it's smarter to send the AOS package as soon as possible. The reason why I state it's smarter is that in case you get a checklist on the AOS package, it won't delay your case as you likely won't even be able to send the IV package at that point.
But of course, that's just my opinion. You can of course do what you like
Thank you Saylin for clearing that up, Yes, I completely misunderstood!
I will be following your advice!!!!
If there is a way to take down my original post so others dont get confused I am willing to do that! Just let me know.

Has anyone recently sent in AOS and IV packages together snail mail? Im trying to decide if I will do this or not, we have everything ready for both. What are the the reasons why some of you did not do this, disadvantages? From reading the Wikki it seems I can send both packages with the AOS coversheet. Please correct me if this is wrong.
In the wikki says the below: But i wanted to get some more information from peoples experiences, because you all are amazing!!
Note: the two packages (AOS and IV) can either be mailed separately or together. Either one works. Again, as long as NVC receives it, that's all that matters. If you do decide to mail them together, I suggest putting each in a separate manila envelope (and clearly mark it and write "AOS" or "IV" on each one), then putting both manila envelopes inside the shipping envelope.

Our case number was assigned July 3rd and we were in the same pattern until sometime last week. You can still count from the day the case number was assigned. Our emails came on the 21st, the DS-261 had become available on the 20th and the AOS fee became payable this morning.
Hi Tim,
Thank you so much for your response! I will hang in there then. I hope all goes well for you!

Hi Everyone,
Just got off the phone with Paige at NVC.
Case number assigned july 10th and I called on July 11th to get this info and gave our emails. I thought the 30 days started from case number assigned to receive the email with the next steps? Am I wrong here? We still have not been able to fill out DS-261 or AOS fee
She told me that as of today my case has been "inputed to process info" and that I can expect the email any time in the next 20 days from Today!!! Is this what others experienced or is this a sign of their backlog and delays to come?
I also asked about the computer crash issue and she said eveything is fine and the systems are running fine. She acted as tho she didnt know about the computer crash.
Thanks all! Im still reading the posts from today, there was a lot of chatter

I really appreciate the help! Thanks a bunch, stackeria. I've actually found a joint sponsor now with sufficient income, so I don't have to worry about meeting sponsorship requirements. I just want to make sure I'm filling out the correct information in my I-864 form.
Are there any others here that are in the same situation as I am? I've been living and working for the last three years in a foreign country. Since my income is not US sourced I cannot use it to help meet my spouse's sponsorship requirements. If you are could you please share how you filled your I-864 Part 6 lines 5 and 13.a/b/c out? Thanks!
I agree with stackeria. for part 13.abc it depends on how you filed taxes in the USA.
I have been living and working abroad this year so I am putting 0.00 in part 6 Q5 bc its not continuing when I return to US.
for part 13abc I was earning US income so I will put my total amount from my tax transcripts.

Oops i shouldve been clear. My wife is the petitioner, I am the beneficiary. And she is working in USA.
No problem! in this case Yes, you can use her current expected income and put it in Part 6 question 5 and provide proof. I suggest reading page 5 of 13 in the I-864 instructions under part 6 item 5. It has examples of what proof is accepted. With this proof I dont think it matters so much as what her past income was just that now she can support you. Someone correct me if im wrong!
I have read on this forum before about calculating your expected income, but Im not 100% sure how to do it so maybe someone else can help if you have further questions about that.
I hope this helps! Im filling out this form now too.

2) Also my wife started working this year (July) and makes more than the poverty line now. But for the past three years she was unemployed/part time work. She was in school. So can we use her current income to meet the poverty guideline? If we can then we wont need a co-sponsor. Her tax returns in 2013, 2012, 2011 pretty much had close to zero income.
Hi!
Question - Is your wife working abroad or in USA? If she is abroad working, will the work continue when she moves to the USA, for example the company will transfer her?

Hello!
Im filling out my I-864 this weekend and I think im done just had a few last questions to make sure im doing it correctly.
- I am proving support with assets as i do not meet the income requirement working abroad. My husband/indenting immigrant will also contribute his assets so we are well above the required amount. In the instructions it says, "page 7 of 13 part 7 6.-8 The form I-864a is not required to document the indenting immigrant's assets." When I called and spoke with NVC I was told to fill out the I-864 and to have my husband fill out the I-864a(he was a bit short with me so I didnt question him). Does anyone know if they require the I-864a even though it says its not required? I know the NVC is tricky sometimes so I just wanted to check with the world of the experienced here
For Part 4 question 5 Country of Domicile - Not sure if I can put both Chile/USA, I reside in Chile but will provide documents of my US mailing address and how I have maintained life in the US with the cover letter suggested in the wikki. (i do not own property in US) Any advice of what to put?
Part 6 Sponsor income and employment - Im employed abroad so I put it, but I want to make sure they are not asking just for USA employment.
Thanks!!!!

Hi all! I guess i belong here now
just got our NOA2 on july 17th!
What now? Is there something we should do or will NVC contact us when they receive the file?
Thanks
Cristina
Hi Cristina!
Welcome! If you haven't already, read the first post in this forum by Saylin is a wonderful resource that has helped me so much. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/503660-nvc-filers-july-2014/
I took the advice in her wikki and called about a week after to make sure they received our case from USCIS. I also printed it out and im using it as a personal checklist in this process.
Hope this helps!

Nope, you don't include your husband in Part 3, under family members. You're doing it right
You're right, you only need to check yes on part 3 question 1, you already listed in him in part 2. Leave all the other family members as none or N/A just to avoid a checklist
Thank you both so so much!!
Saylin Your documents are amazing thank you for all that you do!

I am filling out my I-864 now. I am only sponsoring my husband who is listed in part 2. Do i list him again in part 3 under family number 1? In the example form it doesn't have this part filled out. So I didn't because i checked yes in part 3 question 1 to: I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in part 2.
Just want to make sure I get it right
You need to correct:
In Part 3, Information on the Immigrant(s) You are sponsoring, please correct the following...[x] Item 7. The total number of immigrants listed in Item 7 must equal the number of immigrants listed in Part 3, Items 1 through 6.f. In addition, you must also verify that the total number of immigrants listed in Item 7 matches the number you entered in Part 5 Item1.WOW just curious did you expedite?
Hi Solenta! No we didn't expedite.
We are both living abroad and got very lucky with the timing that we sent in our paperwork I guess! Other couples both living abroad are experiencing the same quick I-130 approval lately. Im unsure of the reason, but I feel so so lucky as I know lots of couples are apart during the long approval process!
We will have a slower NVC process. I was already told I will get a checklist because I am filling out I-864 and showing support with only assets as my income abroad does not count and I need to fill in 0.00 for my current income. They will ask for a joint sponsor and then let the embassy decide. My husband will also fill out I-864a with his assets.
Just curious
when you got your case number did you keep checking for the Ds-261 to open up or did you wait for the email?
-
Good morning everyone, I have successfully re-schedule my interview earlier...Instead of August 18 will be August 5
Thats Great News! Did you request that through the embassy or NVC?
i hope you can see my time line here...still trying to get the hang of this. We just got our case number and now we are waiting for the DS-261to be available. I keep checking it online but nothing yet. We still have to get the official email as well.
So happy for you tho! Happy dance for sure!
-
They are saying that they won't be able to verify the assets if you they are abroad. They may have to send your file out to an embassy to get that done and it would take time and effort.
You would be better off getting your parents' sponsorship.
Thank you so much for your reply dustyrah!
My assets are in the USA does that make a difference? I was going to get letters from my banks stating the amount and the address its all linked too proving domicile there.
If having my assets in the USA does not make a difference, will they clear my case at NVC and the embassy will review it during our interview? Do you know how that process works?
Thank you so much for taking the time!

Hello All,
I had a VERY confusing conversation on Friday with NVC. if anyone has any advice its greatly appreciated! I am wondering if anyone was successful in sponsoring a loved on the I-864 form - AOS packet with only assets?
We currently live abroad and thats why I did not meet the income requirement last year, but I do barley have 3 times the requirement in assets. Including my husbands assets we are all set.
I called NVC yesterday and I was told I could submit I-864 and I-864A to claim my husbands assets with mine. BUT I was told that NVC "doesn't care about assets we don't look at them" and that because I will not meet the income requirement on my own and Im not using a joint sponsor I will get a checklist requesting to have a joint sponsor. I said ok, so does that mean I must have a joint sponsor? We should be ok if looking just at assets and I prefer not to have my parents sponsor us and have this responsibility "we will then push your case to the embassy abroad and they will review your assets and make the determination if you are eligible because we do not review assets"
Anyone successful this route with the I-864?
Thank you any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

It seems silly to me that they will need bank letters proving we have the assets if they are not going to consider them!!!!!
Anyone try this route with the I-864? Thank you!

Congratulations to the case completes!!! Thats such great news!
I have a question regarding the PCC's needed. I understand that my husband needs to get a PCC from each country lived in from the age of 16 for more than 6 months.
This might be a silly question but does this also include the USA? When his student visa expired he did get a PCC on his way out of the country.
We live abroad is this something that we can easily get at the US Embassy?
Thank you for your time in responding!

Hi Gwinne!
It's great to connect with you, and your fast approval gives me hope!
Congradulations!
Did you need to go to an interview at the embassy?
I was able to get through to USCIS on Friday, and it turns out that the money order that I sent through the Post Office was emitted incorrectly
I had a dubious feeling when they made out the order.... so I am not completely surprised, but I will have to send the whole package in again
(Luckily I got my money back)
I wanted to ask you how you made the payment???
Where will you be living in the US?
Hi Megan,
No, we haven't been to the embassy yet. I believe that will be at the end of the process.
Im sorry to hear about the issue you had. I sent a personal check from my US bank account so I could see what day it was cashed.
We are unsure where we will live at the moment, finding the employment will likely determine that for us.
Good Luck with submitting again, i hope everything goes perfect this time!

The package was signed for on June 1st, but I haven't received my NOA
...
Has anyone else filed recently from Chile???
I was ignorantly certain that the process would go quickly as my husband was a LPR until recently
What are other people's experiences with the process, filing from abroad?
Does the Chicago Lockbox emit the NOA? If dies it come from a district office???
Thanks and of course GOOD LUCK to everyone!!!!
Hi Mrb4!
I am in Santiago, Chile!!!! We just got our NOA2 for the I-130 for my husband. We sent the package via DHL and it was transferred to California. It as approved in 14 days.
Did you include G-1145 form in your submission to get an email upon receipt? I did and the day after it was delivered I got an email from USCIS telling me they were transferring the case to California Service Center.
In the I-130 did you put your address in Chile for both you and your husband or did you put a US address?
Im so happy to have connected with you here as we are also waiting in Chile before moving. I hear Patagonia is BEAUTIFUL! We will plan a trip this summer to visit so let me know if you have any tips
I would suggest calling on monday to see if they can give you any information.
-
Hey Everyone! Im so happy to have this group to ask questions to thanks for sharing info!
Our NOA2 of I-130 was just approved this week and its being sent to NVC. We are getting all of the paperwork together to be prepared and I have a few questions.
Do we really have to send my husbands original birth certificate? We live in Chile and he is from Brazil so to get another copy or a certified copy would be very difficult I think?
We live abroad so the salary is not the same as in the US. I am $500 under the 2014 income rate that I need to have in order to support him. I need to read more information regarding the I-864 and if i can include my assets, or if he can be a joint sponsor. Can anyone recommend a link for me to read up on?
Also, what is the checklist everyone is talking about, saying "I hope you dont get a checklist"? Can someone link me to the post that discusses this in detail?
THANK YOU! Have a great weekend everyone!!!
-
Hopefully you didn't include a US address.
Thank you so much for your comment!!! Why its not a good idea to include a US address? I thought for mailing purposes it will be faster and more reliable to receive mail in the USA rather than my location abroad.
Thanks!
-
Hello!
This is my first post here in the forum and I wanted to say thank you to everyone who shares information here. I find it very helpful.
I submitted my I-130 for my husband and it was received June 2nd with the required documents including the G325A's to the Chicago Locked Box. I live abroad with my husband and my NOA1 email received June 4th states we have been transferred to the California service center. We have yet to receive the hard copy in the mail. - not sure if they will send to USA address or abroad address.
Did the above people who have been approved quickly fill out/or do something special to be "auto-expidited"?
Did you submit form I-864 in your first submission? I did not, I didn't know it was an option but I have seen some other timelines stating they submitted everything all at once.
Thank you for taking the time to help me understand!
