  1. That's helpful. Thanks a trillion for the help!

    Best wishes,

    Zilla

Applying before marriage is a waste of money - the EAD would expire the day your I-94 expires.

Submit the I-765 when you submit the I-485. It is free when filed with the I-485 and you will receive the EAD within 90 days (it will be more like 60 days). This will allow you to work while you wait for the green card, which can take up to a year.

You should also submit the I-131 with the I-485, it is also free and your EAD will be a combo card which will allow you to re-enter the US if you choose to travel abroad.

  2. Hello,

since I have just gone through the process in Sweden (and got approved!), please see my answers below.

    - Take the package with you but do not organize it differently (you never know...). Just read it through and make sure you know the content of all the documents in it. When I had the interview, they never asked about anything regarding the I-129 package, only about the stuff they had asked for in the appointment confirmation which I got from the embassy.

    - I was asked to bring two passport size photos. That should be specified in the appointment confirmation from the embassy (prob received via email).

    - No, if his finances are in order and he earns above US poverty line you don't need to know about his finances in detail (at least I was never asked anything about it). Just make sure you bring the original Affidavit - they won't accept copies! I speak from experience...

    - Bring everything sent and written during the whole process, you never know what they'll ask for. And bring all original documents and evidence possible. The fewer copies the better.

    - This answers two questions in one: Bring evidence of your continous relationship since you filed the I-129 petition - that includes boarding passes, pictures, emails, skype history, etc. - but only a few of each. Don't overdo it.

    - You should be fine for the medical examination. My doctor at least was very easy about it.

    - They'll most likely you ask you to give them the documents and things asked for in the appointment confirmation from the embassy (as you may have noticed, this is an important mail!). For me it was the following:

Affidavit, incl. supporting documents from employer and bank

    Valid passport

Old passports with US visas in them (I had none)

DS-160 confirmation page (important that the barcode is on there)

    Two passport photos

Police records from all countries I lived in for more than six months (don't worry, all clean, haha) - if these are in other languages than English you'll need certified translations

    Evidence of continuous relationship

Besides the documents I was asked to bring, they asked me where I met my boyfriend and to tell them our story. There were also a few questions about our birth years, when the wedding would be and how many are invited. I heard another girl being asked (not that I listened) if her parents approved of her engagement but I guess that was because she was young (maybe around 22). It was a comfortable and easy experience for me! Don't worry and good luck! :-)

Just ask if you have more questions,

    Zilla

    Hey guys!

Interview coming up soon! Medical exam is next week. Very very nervous. Just wanted to discuss a few things before dropping dead from a panic attack.

    - Do I take the whole approved I-129 package with me? As in like a bundle just the way I got it..or can I organize it the way I want. Are they gonna ask to see specific documents separately or just ask me to hand over the whole package?

    - We got back out passport size pictures too..can I use them for interview? How many copy of pictures do I need for interview? The medical exam asked for 5 copy.

    - Do I need to know about my fiance's finances in great detail? Like I know how much he makes and stuff but do I need to go through his pay stubs step by step?

    - Should I use the exact copy of the evidence that we sent for I-129 and got back? Should I bring original boarding passes or is it okay if I bring copies

    - Should I include more recent evidence as we just saw each other 2 weeks ago

    - I have a lot of stuff as proof..pictures, plane tickets, boarding passes, movie tickets, proof of taking trips together..but I'm wondering if I should bring them all with me or just a few. Would that be "too many" evidence?

    - For my medical exam I'm bringing my immunization booklet, allergy test result, titre test to prove immunity and a pathology report of a surgery couple years ago.. is that okay?

    - Do they ask you to hand over allll your documents or just ask for things they want to see

Thank you so much guys! :)

  3. Hi everybody,

my K-1 visa is approved and I have already entered the US. We are getting married on December 27! :-)

Here's my question: Should I apply for I-765 (work permit) already or should I wait until after the marriage and apply with my I-485 (adjustment of status) application?

The info on VisaJourney is a little confusing as the different pages say different things. It says that I shouldn't apply for I-765 now - because the permit is only valid within the valid period of my visa - and that applying now is just a waste of time and money. It does say that I should apply for the I-765 together with my I-485 application (in the package) but that that process can take months, even years... And then it says that the I-765 usually gets approved within 90 days. But if I send it with the I-485 application that takes months...? I'm not sure I get it. Help! We did any of you do and what's your experience?

I look forward to your replies!

    Best wishes,

    Zilla

  4. Hi guys,

Thank you so much for your replies!

I looked at the links you sent me and it said 'No Status' on my case so I of course called the embassy in Sweden to ask about this. The woman I talked to said they'd never received anything from the NVC, which of course was not good news. I then called the NVC and they said that they had sent them our petition on July 7. Panicked, I wrote the embassy in Sweden (they were of course closed at this time) to ask again and thankfully the answer came back this morning that they had sent the checklist for interview to us via email.

I don't know where the mismatch comes from but at least everything is in order. Now I just need to figure out how to get the email with the checklist. It'll probably be a couple of days of calling different people and sending out emails, haha.

Thank you so much for the help and support!

  5. Hi everybody,

On June 17 we received the NOA2 that our petition had been approved. On July 7 we received the letter from the NVC that our petition had been forwarded to the embassy in Sweden, and that we would hear from them once they are ready to process our case.

I think I read somewhere that this should take around a month and now it's been five weeks (yes, we are very impatient and just ready to start our lives now!). How long have you guys been waiting after having received the NOA2 until you got the letter from the embassy?

    Thank you so much!

  6. That's a great idea! Thank you! I'll try to call the doctor and book an appointment already. Fingers crossed that it'll work. Want to be on top of this process as much as possible, you know.

We received the NOA2 on June 17 and the letter from the NVC was sent on July 7. I guess when we submit DS-160 we need to pay a fee of $240, is that what you mean?

Thank you again for the advice. Good luck to you and your husband on the visa stuff!!

    Hi ZillaOlsen,

I am still waiting to pay the DS260 invoice for my hubby. The NVC is taking forever on this process. How long after the NVC received your stuff did you get to start paying invoices and sending payment?

Anyways, to answer your question the best I can from what I've seen with other people, it just depends on the doctors. I would call them and try to book it. I think it varies from country to country. This is from what I've read and not personally experienced. It's worth a call. I think they may want you to bring the letter, but if you explain the process is taking longer then usual then they may allow you to get the medical done without it.

    Good luck!!

  7. Hi everyone,

We received our letter from the NVC yesterday (I-129F was filed early May) and immediately started the DS-160 form online. That will be completed today. Our question is; do we now have to wait for the letter from the (in this case) embassy in Sweden before booking a medical examination and interview? Or can that process be started already?

This forum has truly be helpful and amazing. Thank you!!
