  1. Schedule your medical as soon as you get your interview date. When you call to get your medical they will ask what is your interview date, and then they will schedule you on the next available date. Be sure to bring your print out of the packet 3 email to the medical. After you get your results from the medical a few days later you will have to bring it with you to the interview.

  2. I was trying to submit this review on my timeline but keeps saying I'm not registered, so if an administrator can tell me what I need to do it would be great help...thanks in advance.

My fiancé had his interview at the US embassy in Egypt on Dec 10, 2014. My review might not be in exact detail since I was not there but I would like to share what I was told.

fiancé arrived to the consulate at 7, was told to join the immigrant visa line, he was the only one on that line. The security guard asked him if he had the Aramex paper (similar to DHL).... He said no and was told to go to a cafe shop where they will have it. He paid $70 pounds for the paper. Once he came back they ask for his DS 160 confirmation. He entered the embassy, went through security. He met a Egyptian lady at the desk, she asked him for the Aramex paper, 134 (affidavit of support) and my 2013 tax return and w2 form. She then asked if I was ever married and if he was ever married. she also asked for the original birth certificate (we had mailed in a copy with translation like packet 3 stated, and when they called us for the interview they never informed my fiancé to bring the original). She gave him a number and paper to read regarding the United States (emergency contact and information on rights he has). He waited quiet a while for the interview, once called up he saw the interviewer (woman) had all the documents I sent for the petition.

She asked him how we met? (They want you to answer this question with great detail) she asked him 3 times to explain.

Other questions were... Has he met my family in Egypt? Did I meet his parents? When did I immigrate from Egypt to the United States? did he buy me an engagement ring? How do we communicate and how many times a day do we talk on the phone and at what times? Where are we going to get married in the US? Is any of his family members coming? Do I speak Arabic? Are we the same religion? Who pays for my flight tickets? Any other pictures to show?

On a side note my fiancé thought that the interviewer had a attitude compared to the other interviewers who were saying congratulations and welcome to America to the people they were interviewing. He would answer the questions and she would say no and then give her opinion on the answer. Before he went into the interview I told him to be himself, that they test your patience and just smile the whole time. From reading past interview experiences I knew it won't be easy.

She then says the visa is approved but he must first send in the original birth certificate, she kept his passport. He said as he looked back while walking away she was starring at him in an unpleasant way lol.

After the interview my fiancé went home got his birth certificate and mailed it to the embassy with the note they gave him to put with off the document. I tracked the package and they received it today. We are still currently in AP, and I know the embassy is closed on Fridays and Saturdays. Hopefully by next week he will receive the visa.

Goodluck to everyone waiting for their interview/date. Once it's over the stress will come off ....until POE ;)

  3. Hello everyone

My questions is, I thought I'm the one who should receive the email along with packet 3? how can I go to the medical if I didn't receive packet 3 yet? and I thought the fee will be paid at the embassy at the interview!

on the CEAC website it says ready with the date nov 16th!

is it normal or should we contact them?

    Thanks in advance.

This is packet 3. I received the email as well instead of my fiancé. I just forwarded the email to him. After you submit the information asked, you must wait for packet 4 which is the interview notice date, it can be either sent to you by mail, email or phone call from the embassy. After receiving the interview date schedule your medical. We paid with CIB bank and have to present the receipt at the interview.
  4. New York State only allows you to take either your partner's name, or a combination of the two names upon marriage.

You'll have to use a court order. In NYC it's only $65, and should only take about a week if you count in the mandatory publishing in a newspaper.

See this link for info and forms: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/523386-social-security-last-name-change-for-a-male/

Then when it gets to the SSN I'm not too clear. Personally I plan on applying for the SSN in my old name on arrival in the US, then once the name change is final and I've received my SSN, go back and get my name changed on it. If they then refuse, at least I already have the SSN. I can always change it when I get the EAD (which I'll obviously apply for in the new name)

Edit: Do report back with what happened when you actually try to go and get this sorted, so I know whether this will work too. I'll try to remember to do the same if I happen to get these things sorted before you.

Thank you for the information. Most likely I will just ask at the social security office if it possible to drop the last name.

When you say you can always change it when applying for the EAD card do you mean after the court order? And also in regards to your passport, do u have to get another passport with the name change or bringing the court order along is fine?

  5. Some states, like California, allow middle and last names to be changed upon marriage, regardless of gender. You'll need to check what's possible in New York. Otherwise, you might need a court order to change your name.

The SSA office will need to verify that your name matches what's in the SAVE system, which is updated from your immigration records. So it's normally advisable for K-1 holders who want to change their name upon marriage to get their SSN in their maiden name. Then when they've applied for AOS in their new married name, they return to the SSA office with their EAD or GC.

Thank you, I will check what it says for New York.

  6. I have searched for a similar post but could not find the answer to this question. In regards to a k1 visa I would like to know when filing for social security can a male drop one of his last names when filing for social security before marriage?

For example: name is Michael John Smith Peter, can Peter be dropped and have the last name be Smith?

Will this be a issue in the future for getting a marriage license, Adjustment of status etc?

  7. Hi all. I have a question regarding packet 3 with the consulate in Egypt. I know packet 3 is a checklist to have documents like birth certificate, military certificate, pcc and etc translated. My question is does my fiancé have to mail these items back before the interview or bring them with him to the interview? He currently lives 5 hrs from Cairo due to work and if these items need to be mailed then I would need to tell him to go back to Cairo and have them done right away. I'm trying to find a packet 3 checklist online to see what it says but I can not find a link on the embassy website.

  8. Does anyone who requested a name change through naturalization have experience traveling with two passports with two significantly different names?

If so, I'm curious to hear about any issues you may have faced. I'm wondering what people who change their names in the US do if their country of birth doesn't allow name changes. I assume this is an issue because some countries, like the US, insist that you enter using their passport.

I'm referring to a complete change in one or more names (not caused by taking a spouse's last name). For example, your passport from your country of birth would say Ali David Chen and your American passport would say Alex David Chen or Alex Cheney.

I was born in Egypt but raised in US. My US passport also shows born in Egypt. When I entered both times travelling to Egypt immigration asked me if I had an Egyptian ID...I answered no. Then He asked if I had my fathers ID....I responded no. He then told me that I will have to pay for a visa, which wasnt a big deal because its not that expensive and you can get it at the airport with no problem. They don't ask for any additional information. So I am assuming if they ask for your egyptian passport/ or ID is only for waive of visa fee. If the name doesnt match it might cause you a greater problem. So I recommend just showing your US passport and getting a visa.

    • Flight itinerary is not a proof both of you already have met in person. People can buy ticket without using it.
    • Passport stamps and boarding passes showed both of you at same place and date. Those are sufficient.
    • Just wait to see if it caused you get RFE. My husband and I forgot to include passports biographical pages only passport stamps. Some people here got RFE because forgot to include those. Luckily we did not. We were approved in 38 days without RFE.

    Thank you for your response!

  9. I filed for a K1 visa for my fiance about a month ago in the Texas service center. Sent evidence such as phone logs, text messages, photos and flight itinerary, What I forgot to send :bonk: which I still have is my stamps on passport. Does anyone know if I will get a RFE or is my flight itinerary enough? I'm sure this question was probably asked before but if anyone has any new recent info regarding this I would greatly appreciate your response. :help:
