  1. USCIS INCOMPETENCE AT OATH CEREMONY

I got a letter from USCIS (N445) telling me that I would need to come in to the District Courthouse in Indianapolis for my oath ceremony at 9 AM today. When I came in today the officers were unable to find my name on the list. They also did not have a naturalization certificate for me. One of my relatives had a problem 5 years ago when they lost her A file between interview and oath, took her green card, did not give her the naturalization certificate for three whole weeks leaving her status less.

I insisted on an explanation, took my green card back. As they were about the start the ceremony I went up again to the officer and insisted that he fix the situation. He stopped the ceremony (about 100 people waiting) called his office and then told me that they could not naturalize me. He did not give me an explanation.

I walked to the USCIS district office (15 blocks away) and insisted on an explanation. Finally the district director's secretary told me that since I was travelling abroad in early August (I told them that at the interview) they first scheduled me and send a letter, then de scheduled me (did not send a letter) and then will send a letter in August for a date at the end of August. I told her that I had to take a day off today and tomorrow (to travel to Chicago to apply at the passport agency) and she was unapologetic. She said this:

THE WEBSITE (USCIS STATUS) AND THE LETTERS THAT ARE RECEIVED ARE NOT CONFIRMATION BUT MERELY ADVICE. ALL OATH CEREMONY DATES NEED TO BE DOUBLE CHECKED WITH THE LOCAL OFFICE AS THEY ALONE MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT OATH CEREMONIES. I SHOULD HAVE MADE AN INFOPASS ONCE I RECEIVED THE N445 LETTER AND CONFIRMED THE OATH DATE AND NOT RELIED ON THE ONLINE SYSTEM AND NOTICE OF ACTION.

I am fed up of this crappy system.

  2. I have a weird string of emails/texts from USCIS.

Interview June 25 no decision made, lack of A file

On Monday July 7: email/ text from USCIS:

    Your Case Status: Oath Ceremony

On July 7, 2014, we scheduled you for your oath ceremony and sent a notice providing the date, time, and location.

Today Friday July 11: email/text from USCIS:

On July 11, 2014, we placed your application in the oath scheduling que. We will send a notice when the ceremony is scheduled. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony,

Question for all of ypu out there:

Do you get scheduled first and then get put in a que? I thought this was the opposite. I have not received any written communication from USCIS to date.

  3. I had my N400 interview today in Indianapolis. I was eligible after 5 years on employment basis on March 19 (90 days prior) and completed 5 years on June 16 2014. My wife applied at the same time (three days after me).

Though my wife applied later she was scheduled for the interview a week earlier, passed and is now scheduled for oath. Prior to interview she received a yellow letter and the scheduling letter.

I only received a scheduling letter. Today at the interview a very nice immigration officer called me in and swore me to tell the truth. She asked me 6 questions: 1. Who is head of the executive branch 2. Who succeeds the president 3. What are the amendments to voting rights4. Major concern of us during cold war 5. One of freedoms under the First amendment. I have forgotten the sixth.

She went over my application. I had fifteen trips out of the US none lasting 6 months, one more since filing N400. She quickly went through the list but did not care. Added my new trip. Made me sign my photos. She then gave me a form saying I had passed my tests but....a decision could not be made. She saw that I was surprised and explained. She said the field office only had a "T file" on me and received my "A file" only this morning. She had not been able to review it but will review it today after completing interviews.

She said that there are now two possibilities: 1. If she needs something more I will receive a letter from them in the next week 2. If they dont need anything I will hear from them in 2 weeks regarding oath. Her personal opinion was that it was likely to be 2. The feeling I got was that what they are worried about are unlawful acts. She said since the FBI fingerprint searchs came back negative she does not believe that the A file will have issues but she will need to check.

This explains why I never recieved a yellow letter: they never checked the A file.

Here is a Google link to USCIS document that explains A and T files
