The interview date is already scheduled for my wife within the month. We are getting the tourist visa now for the parents so that they can be there with my wife for the initial month to help get adjusted. The parents are not in the process of applying for an immigrant visa and are not planning to anytime soon.
Going back to the original question, would I be considered an immediate relative for my in laws?
-
You are asking about immigration visas in the tourist visa forum?
I am asking about the tourism visa. I was concerned because the US website does not clarify if in-laws are considered immediate family for tourism visas specifically because for immigration visas that distinction was clearly stated.
-
Wife is in China, currently applying for immigration visa. No kids at the moment and it will be the first time the parents-in-law will visit US. Since my wife is in china, would not make sense when they are applying to say they are visiting the US to see their daughter that is in China.
-
Was looking for clarification since for immigration visas, in-laws are considered different than biological parents and spouse.
-
If my parents-in-law from China apply for a tourist visa to the US to visit me, would that be considered visiting immediate relatives?

Hmm...I know a friend who recently was given an appointment at the US consulate in China, however there was no letter asking for a priority date. They were just assigned a date.
I will contact the embassy/consulate for assistance. However, since I started the immigration process with the USCIS/NVC, not DCF, will that make the embassy less willing to assist?

I am a US citizen and my spouse is in the NVC stage of getting the green card, just started (USCIS took ~10 months to finish processing).
But I recently accepted a temporary position in China which will last between 1-2 years, so it delays our plan to live in the US by 1-2 years.
I am worried about if the green card is approved before the 1-2 years then she would have to live in the US before the position finishes.
Reading on the NVC website stated that I have up to 1 year at each stage of the NVC process, such as paying fees. Does this mean I could purposefully not take any action to slow down the NVC process?
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

PD 11/19
Got that response too (I-129f service request). Not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing. Does it mean the background checks are finally done? Or is it cause it was the service request for my I-129f? Or is it just NSC's new way of dealing with the backlog?
I think it is another generic stock answer, because after that I sent another service request directly to the NSC email (NSCFollowup.NCSC@uscis.dhs.gov) and got this response.

11/08/2013 file date here for I-130 at Nebraska Service Center. Also recently found out about directly contacting NSC, however they also give stock/generic answers. Only difference I can see is that they say wait 90 days instead of the usual 30 days from Service Requests.
-
File date 11/08/2013. Still waiting here at Nebraska Service Center under initial review and after multiple service requests. Also got the stock answers of additional background checks, and the 2nd service request gave the even more generic answer of
"Our records show that your case is currently pending adjudication. We regret that we are unable to provide you with a completion date at this time."
-
what did you senator say? How long did s/he tell you to wait?
Initial email from senator said to wait ~3 weeks for response. Quite short compared to what the USCIS has been indicating!
-
hello, your situation is really tough.
have you tried to make an appointment at info pass?
Have you tried to get congressmen in?
Already checked online for local immigration office with info pass, they have no scheduled times/appointments for this type of inquiry.
Already contacted my senator and provided relevant information/forms such as privacy consent form over two weeks ago.

11/8/2013 filer here, two service requests and another direct email to NSC also told additional background checks. But this time they say wait 90 days to contact again...
-
Nov 8th file date here. Two service requests and still nothing. It is hard to not get depressed or angry knowing that this is only the 1st stage, that other later file dates are being processed much quicker, and that the NVC is getting a huge backlog as well.
-
November 8 PD at Nebraska Service Center. Still waiting. Put in service request almost a month ago, response was there was still background checks/security checks and no estimated time for finishing. In a couple of days I can put in another service request since it will have been 30 days since the last one.
-
Congratulations to all the recent approvals! It is encouraging to see so many in recent days. And trying to stay positive while waiting for my approval, when possible feels a lot better than being bitter at the whole ordeal.
-
Things would not be so bad if USCIS did things in the order of filing. And doing service requests is a temporary relief as they then say to wait 30 days before asking again why the case is outside proper processing times...just to do another service request.
-
Tried to use the e-link to put in a service request using
https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/Intro.do;jsessionid=abcCfJRpaVOkwc83R_vyu
but it says I am within normal processing times (PD 11/08/2013).
I called the service rep, not even tier 2, and they said I was outside normal processing times, put in a service request, and gave me a confirmation number.
Also, seriously congratulations to everyone who was approved! I can only image how great it will feel to have the inconsistent nightmare that is USCIS finished.
-
They have been telling me Nov 5th for a couple of weeks as well. But they only ever said to call again in a few days, not after waiting one and a half months!
-
Have been following this thread for a while.
My PD is Nov 8th, routed to the Nebraska Service Center.
Always happy to see fellow NSC people get approved, since that means they're actually doing something. But that's always mixed with a bit of jealousy since the earlier filers have been left behind
