  1. Thanks that's really good info and may explain what happened, because her passport has her maiden name. That brings up another problem, that should we manage to change things here - we'd end up with her passport not matching the green card anymore. I'm not sure what that would lead to.

It’s the case with mine. But our journey is not finished yet. I hope it wont happen to us on the green card and visa later.

Did your wife change her passport into her married name? cause what I understand, they will always go with passport details. If she has a maiden name on her passport during interview then visa and green card will be in maiden name.

We called NVC too on this matter when our I-130 was approved with my married name in all the documents and USCIS correspondence on married name, until NVC changed it into maiden name.

They told us that during interview, if I have the married name on my passport already, then they will issue the visa and green card on Married name.

  2. After a long 18 months my wife and I have finally completed the CR-1 Marriage Visa process and she could arrive here in the United States. We married in Colombia, and thus filled out the I-130 forms using my (the husband)'s last name one day later. Everything seemed ok until these papers hit the NVC, who promptly changed everything back to her maiden name on communications, emails, etc. (I can only assume this was to match her birth certificates etc.) At our interview in Bogota, Colombia - we made sure to ask "How to fix the last name when the Visa ,green card, and social security card are issued?" The US consular explain that this would take place using the online (final visa payment) system. We did this, listing the correct name in every place possible. Unfortunately, everything arrived with her maiden name here in the United States - Green Card + Social Security Card. I'm not exactly sure how to fix this, or if I'm creating a new problem if I try.. we are so grateful just to be done with this situation I'm not sure what I'm getting into trying to change things. Any advice would be appreciated thanks!

  3. Hello, my wife (Colombia) was finally approved for her I-130 application filed June of 2013 by the USCIS. I am a US citizen. The letter states that it's been forwarded the State dept (NVC) approx 30 days ago... and that's about all we know at this point. Can anyone help me understand what kind of times we're looking at next? I realize that the NVC will send me and my wife some papers next (where I can be declared as our point of contact, for mail, etc) but i'm not entirely sure how many steps come next before the interview.

How long until the next round of papers? Timeframe to get an appointment after that?

Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!
