  1. There is no tax on owning assets as you seem to imply? You are taxed on income on those assets, and capital gains of you sell them.

Reporting requriements for FBAR are cash and securities accounts, if over a certain minimum in aggregate (I can't remember what the threshold is) then you need to report all accounts even if an individual one is below the limit. But the requirements are all clearly spelt out on the IRS website.

    thanks susie

assets are cash and property(house). i want to sell my house so i can transfer the funds to US. then i have to pay taxes because i Sold my house?!

of course i pay taxes for selling in my home country

  2. dear moustafa and crystal

many thanks for your fast reply but the link to the abu-dhabi pdf in travel.state is absolutely out dated!. actually the other links to uae pdfs are also old and are not accurate. have you noticed that?

i thought there should be some newer and more accurate pdfs or web pages to follow.

  3. hi fellows

the question is: when to report your assets to IRS?

now, consider me as a dv winner who hopes to get visa and live in the states; when should i report my whole assets to IRS? first time entering US? before first year of residency?

as i know, i don't have to pay taxes for assets owned BEFORE being a US resident, is that true?

so, do i have to report my properties IN A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME? or this is not an issue at all?

anyway, wish success for every person regarding interviews and living abroad,

    ken

  4. hi guys

i know that age is not a limitation for DV lottery but just as financial situation, this could be a concern for a winner, at least i guess so.

do you have any idea for a single father over 46 years old, how to manage interview to win this matter of age?

i have no higher education, only high school diploma

    cheers,

    ken

  5. thanks guys, this is the conclusion from your ideas:

a- only updated of main applicant's educational qualification and regarded docs are needed.

b- custody issues doesn't affect visa denial

c- based on different countries laws on custody, best to have and bring the related documents (explicit transfer of custody) for administrative evaluation in consulate

so, please also give us advice on posting/carrier docs 15 days before interview to consulate:

1- is it to be 2 accurate translation copy of divorce decree?

2- should include docs from other people in the case? ex. child accompany. (ID/birth certificate+copy of passport enough?)

3- should i include work experiences' docs also, although i'm into my education qualification?

4- should i have ALL the financial docs? or it might present at interview?

it would be easier to ask this i think so :) which docs to carrier to consulate 5 days before interview?

    thanks in advance,

  6. hello

i heard that you should post to copies of marriage certificate for some consulates regarding DV applicant which are married. is it true and effective for Divoce certificates also? shouls i post double traslation of my divorce decree to KCC?

    regards,

  7. yes i'm the father and we live in iran and i mentioned the exact phrases from my divorce certificate:

"...the child is not subject to care and custody; and his care is the wife responsibility according to their agreement ..."

so you can see that "he's not subject to care and custody" BUT his care is the WIFE responsibility.

is there a possibility for any reason which could affect the whole case? leading to visa rejection for both of us i mean.

  8. Don't worry about any of it. You don't need to show his educational docs, only yours. Any info you need to update can be done at interview but you probably won't need to at all. The important thing to them is that he is a minor child accompanying you so birth certificate and passport really all they need for him.

thanks Susie, you answer clearly. and what a bout custody? i'm divorced

this is the exact phrases from my divorce certificate:

...the child is not subject to care and custody; and his care is the wife responsibility according to their agreement ...

is this a concern regarding my case and should i have a updated aggreemnet to take the child to U.S.?

  9. hello guys

I'm the main applicant and i have a teenage accompany me. he's 14, first year of high school. i mentioned him as "9th grade high school student" in ds-260 (in May in the time of first editing ds260 she was at final exams of 9th grade). mu question is regarding all the floating situations like mine. he will be in 10th grade in September for sure. should i update his situation through the upcoming months? and do you know if i should finally show his final 8years of study (secondary school) docs in interview or just his 9th or 10the grade?

    thanks in advance

  10. Sounds like a bug with the webpage. Choosing business should be fine.

Are you using High School or Work Experience to qualify?

sometimes simple phrases make a lot of issues :) thanks for it and the point is:

" Are you using High School or Work Experience to qualify? "

so how can someone make this difference? if i fill the fields about my high school diploma, it that mean that i wanted to be on education side? and shall i leave the occupation fields empty?

this queston of our friend made me so confused :)

if i rely on my education, how should i proceed with qork experiance fields in ds260?

    thanks

  11. hi guys :D

this is not about just ds-260, but the whole process. so here's the story:

2 persons in a case, me and my teenage daughter. you know better that there's a choice for the question: is this person travel with you to US? if i say NO. can i bring my daughter later to US without a long time case issue? or if i don't take her with me this may lead to my denial of visa? any suggestions?

    thanks in advance :)

  12. It seems like the thread has diverted from the main reason why the thread was created

Many people have suggest renting PO box or so but I dont think thats possible as they require a physical verification

yes of course it is not possible to rent a PO.box without first having at least 2 IDs for verification with USPS.

if it was possible from outside USA, i would never bother to make such an easy question :(

even most of the virtual services require your PHYSICAL address before giving you a vitual one.

i'm looking after a simple and possible solution, it shouldn't be something impossible.

  13. What religion are you? if you don't mind me asking... we just got a brother from Ethiopia that won DV and he landed last week and staying with one of the brothers from the church and we are finding him a job and he is set for everything. So I was asking because like our church when someone comes from another country we set them up with brothers and sisters from the church , find them work until they can go on their own.. So maybe if you are apart of a church usually they can make a phone call and set up everything for you.

i don't mind. i'm iranian but i have no religion. you guys doing good job out there, good luck with your bright minds :)

  14. No !

You can sponsor your self if you have enough funds to show at the interview ( assets, bank statments...)

And Not all the embassies require an affidavit of support!

And regarding the physical adress its a must if you succeed at your interview, because they will ship your GC to it !

yes I no there's no petitioner required for DVs and I should got some docs to prove money. ok and I also know that THE SHOULD BE A PHYSICAL ADDRESS, I know and this is why I ASK. what can I do?

could I have virtual address, a PO box, kinek or anything else that works with green card?

  15. Congrats on winning the lotto.

Now comes the time where you start shopping for your ticket and off to American soil you come.

Housing, well you could look at craigslist and see if anyone is offering a room and/or board for the price that you can afford, they also have jobs on that site as well. before you come here I would advise that you start getting an idea as to where you are going and what they have in that area. Dont wait til you get here to start looking cause you will be disappointed. Try to connect with other members of the forum or an organization.

I hope all works out for you

thanks a lot for your kind msg :)

but my current challenge is having an address in US for receiving Green Card. what do you think is a solution for people like me without having any place out there?

  16. hi folks

I'm one of the winners of dv2015 but I've got nobody in US, no family no friends.

where should I apply to get my Green Card after I arrive in US? I mean I have no mail address out there.

do you have any suggestion for staying somewhere until I can get my gc and find some good rental offer?

    cheers,
