So as some of you know, we've had our I-129f petition basically ready to go for a week or so now.

Yesterday my fiance called the military hot line as we just wanted to make sure we weren't missing anything on his end.

They asked us why were doing the k1 route, and said we should get married right now since I'm already in America and just do adjustment of status.

From all the research I've done and things I've ready , i was pretty surprised they'd suggest that.

I'm wondering what everyone's opinions are on this.

Are we not making the right decision going the k1 route?

    Is it not faster?

They told him since I'm already here we can just marry and do adjustment of status and I can be here for the whole process. Isn't that route way longer waiting time? Like 12 months?

Also, if we did that, would I be able to go back to Canada during the process for a month and come back to America? Or would I have to wait? I still have my pet and rental apartment there..

Plus if we got married now, wouldn't I lose my benefits/health care in Canada?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just not very familiar on this as I was on the K1.

    Thank you!

I'll add my two cents. You will not loose you health benefits in Canada until you immigrate.

  2. Could someone please explain the process? I believe i'm at the right place since I filed my application end of April. My spouse is a US permanent resident and I'm a Canadian citizen. The only timeline I could find on this website is about CR1 or IR1. Is there one for f2a?

As you can see, I'm confused. I believe that at the i130 level, it takes 5 months to get approved. How long does it take after that for the NVC stage?

    Thank you so much.

  4. Only the main two service centers EVER auto expedited, California and Vermont. None of the rest, do. NBC for a period of time in 2012 and 2013 sent their I-130s randomly to local offices. There was no notification about the transfer. Some people were approved in weeks and others were approved in years. (Atlanta was particularly slow to the point where they pretty much refused to do the workload.) Before that weird stint in 2012/2013, only California and Vermont processed I-130 petitions and you knew exactly where you were going based on where you lived.

Times certainly have changed, but California remains one of the better service centers to end up at. They have a lot of people who are efficient at their jobs and likely have been around for quite some time.

    Hello NLR,

I was wondering if your statistics are coming from Visa Journey or the official website. On the official website it says 5 months. My family was just sent to California, that's why I'm so curious.

    Thank you.

  5. I have actually contacted the embassy here in Ottawa and they have said that it's not a problem to pass the interview here in Canada. Here is the response :
"It is always best to apply for a visa in your home country. However, we understand that it can be difficult for those living in the U.S. to return home. You may request an appointment for a visa interview at the Embassy in Ottawa or at any of our Consulates throughout Canada. "
As far as the interview goes, I have no idea but I would appreciate any feedback from others that have passed it.

  6. Hello,

I have intended to go to Canada for my studies beginning in september 2015. Knowing I stand a chance in the DV Lottery for 2015 and my interview will be held around December, could I still do my interview in Canada or I have to come back to my native country ? If I may pass the interview in Canada, would the interview still be offered in multiple languages such as French ?

  7. Hello,

I know it's early to start doing any paper work or what so ever but I have been reading a little through the forum and was wondering what people meant by case number is high or low. My case number is AF22***, what does that mean ? Also, how can people guess around what month their interview will be held ?

Thank you all for your time,

    Dida
